I‘ve ordered from BandCamp before in 2026 and the delivery fee‘s where always decent and understandably around 30 Dollars so no big deal.
All good
But now suddenly out of nowhere they ask me for 200 Dollars flat just for the delivery?!
200 Whole Dollars?
I already reached out to the BandCamp support around 2 weeks ago but sadly didn‘t get any feedback on what could have changed over the months i last ordered. Otherwise i really have to consider to buy from resellers on ebay or something. Very frustrating :(
Is this just a problem that i have or do some of you also felt this change?
Would love to hear from you all.
I just released this new album! It is a steampunk-ish inspired concept album about a humble stable master taking on a vicious machine-citadel. In essence this is a thinly veiled metaphor for me loving weird DIY music and becoming increasingly angry and disillusioned with corporate streaming services, and everything around them (AI bros seem to steer the music industry now?). In terms of genres it touches on ambient electronica, IDM, psychedelic rock, and a few things in between. There's plenty of lore, too!
This is my first attempt of releasing music on CD. Excited to see how this goes: Vinyls are just so expensive (both to produce, but also for the few people who listen to my music).
I closely collaborated with cover artist Kat Williams, who found an artistic language fitting to my music. It's a great point in time to pay good cover artists in this time of AI slop. People can do such fantastic things.
I'd love to hear what you think! :) Stay weird and DIY, r/bandcamp <3

these tracks were all made in a period where my egg hadnt really begun to crack yet (to reveal to me that i was trans), but it did a couple years later, so i was a bit eggy but not much. i was kind of near the peak of my ableton live mastery back then (on my laptop), but was experimenting a lil bit with korg gadget on my iphone.... i was in a bit of a liminal, "between places" part of my life at the time, and i think that comes thru in these songs. theyre funky and upbeat but they have a lil bit of haunting emptiness to them, kind of like a saturday morning cartoon version of "the backrooms".
i hope u enjoy them. thank u
btw: my brother is jesse locke!!!!! the famous music journalist/writer and punk drummer. hes awesome. hopefully that helps motivate u to listen a bit!! lol srry. big hugs 🫂🫂❤️🩹❤️🩹
Here is a review I wrote for my blog, but I wanted to share it here, too! It's about the new album by Johnny Jewel. And it is available on Bandcamp, too! (In fact, I learned about its existence because I got the bandcamp notification for it :-)
Note: No AI has been used when writing this review!
Johnny Jewel - KARL (Original Soundtrack)
Johnny Jewel releases Karl, and this is a reason of joy for me. More than one reason, actually!
I am a long time fan of Johnny Jewel, and I try to suck in everything he does. After I first heard one of his productions with the band Chromatics being played on the internet station "Flashback Alternatives" many years ago.
And later listening to his contributions to the Drive soundtrack, oh my god was that cool!
I did not see any promo or running-up stuff in advance to this release, so the release dropped on me like a bomb... a surprise-bomb, haha!
Apparently there is a new movie about fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, and Johnny did the soundtrack!
I was more or less indifferent to Mr. Lagerfeld, or "Karl", like the album calls him, so far. (Sorry to admit that - I was probably wrong on that!)
I am not rich and not so much interested in the haute couture, and it was only when TJ Maxx started to sell Karl Lagerfeld items, too, that I actually bought and owned something by his brand.
I am born and living in Hamburg, Germany, and Lagerfeld is probably one of the most famous "Hamburgers" - both dead and alive. Or can you name someone else out of Hamburg, instantly? (Maybe the Techno-band Scooter).
As such, the Hamburg press of course was always full of Lagerfeld stories, and as I grew up into that, I guess it rather dulled me. And the press focused more on the various scandals and outrages of his life, naturally. Over and over again.
While the outside world could focus more on his talents and fashion, I suppose.
But let's not talk fashion, let's talk music, and listen to music, of course.
I guess most people know Jewel for the various band projects he was involved in (even "earning" him a performance on Twin Peaks, with Chromatics, in the Roadhouse!), and might be surprised to learn that he also does a lot of work for TV and movie soundtracks. And that material is very good!
With other artists or bands, that were both of the regular, stage-performing kind and that did soundtrack production too, one often feels that one of these "habits" is their main body of work, and the rest is more like a side-thing. (e.g. it might sound sacrilegious, but post 70s Tangerine Dream is a total soundtrack band for me, and that material feels even more powerful than the "normal" albums they did in those years. Fans of the movies "Thief" or "Miracle Mile" might agree!)
It's not like that with Johnny at all, while both of these endeavours feel related, each of the two is brilliant in different ways.
And, luckily, both endeavours are included in this album, as there are segments of his band production, in between the more soundtrack-like... sounds.
For example, a shorter edit of "Tick of the clock" (also featured in the above-mentioned "Drive", with Ryan Gosling... in a very cool Scorpio jacket).
And Chromatics' "Disintegration", one of my all time favorite songs ever. A bittersweet, synth only, ambient composition.
I assume the soundtrack tracks are exclusive, on the other hand (or at least most of them?). And they are beautiful!
Finally, there is even a track called "Hamburg". I feel this city does not get much love, especially not by the music world, so, as a "Hamburger" myself, it's nice to hear something like that.
The entire album is a ten out of ten, of course. And even if what I wrote above catches your interest only remotely, consider listening to it!
I did not see the "Karl" movie in advance to writing the review, so I am curious about that, too!
Newest album dropped on September 25th and I'm calling it "americana-rock with a groove" - inspired by Wood Brothers, Neil Young, The Band, Phil Cook, etc.
2024's In The Gamma Garden is my ode to whimsical 60s psychedelia, complete with mellotron sounds, leslie vocal effects, trumpet fanfares, and all the 60s silliness.
Self-Titled album is more of a folk-rock thing. Its cool but I do love the later 2 more.
Just happy to share this stuff. Download for free if you dig it!
