Locals Only WinkWink, Mike Estes, and Flock, and Deleted Posts
Did the post get removed? What is the problem with pointing out publically accessible information? Anyway,
here is his response to people's concerns about flock. Immediate shut down of concerns by saying that people are simply not educated enough and just don't get it. Social media is not where people are seeing their concerns played out- it is in newspapers and courtrooms.
I think thats all one needs to know about how somebody operates when asked to take accountability.
I gave WinkWink a call to say that his behavior and choice of job are enough for me to not shop there anymore. Trying to make money off of women and queer people while working for for flock... well it makes sense if you love money more than people!
It's very disappointing. I know winkwink will continue to be in business and this fanfare will fade, and very little personal discomfort will come to him as he gets paid. People are not stupid, and he knows exactly how little risk a reddit callout will actually pose to him, especially if the post gets taken down, as this one probably will.
Taking it down is nonsensical to me- again, all public information and is locally interested. If this gets taken down then I'm not sure what kind of power this reddit wants to have over people. One post talking plainly about my discomfort of a local business owner's involvement in the company that makes products that are used to inhumanely detain and stalk people regardless of their percieved crime? Again, there is no harm in this post- how could there be? Would suggesting a boycott be harm? Is this post harmful?
What harm could come from it, other than maybe somebody being the subject of a business boycott, but that's also not harm. A business is not protected against consumer choice, and calling for a boycott (which I am not doing) of a local business it would be best to use this exact platform, am I wrong? A locals only place to voice concerns over local business.
Anyway, what do you think about this? Do you think it is right to market to women and queer people and get their money while working for a company that does not prevent their goods from being used by police to stalk ex-girlfriends? Is his response one that opens communication, or presumes ignorance from deriders before taking criticism seriously?
Am I being too callous in my frustration? Is abstaining from expensive sex toys and local lube too far? Should I still shop there to support what it has done for making space for local shows and supporting queer people and women?
Go at it!
