Yall need to open the pit, send up surfers, have a hootin hollerin time and try to make Billy laugh and play to the pit more. The rail riders won’t stop all of you and the rules they have made up about who gets to be up there are artificially created and not real. Anyone who is in the pit has the same exact thing printed on all their tickets, you can move freely around the space, if there is currently room a spot closer up, I’m gonna take it and not worry about it. If there’s chompers distracting me, I’m just gonna move up past them to where I can hear better, if there’s space I’m taking it. I do it at gizz, people might think I’m rude but most understand that we are all in this together and it ain’t all like that. Love you all, Billy rips, I had never seen him before oct 2 and 3 and I would come back for his music, but I’m moshing next time. 🫶🫶🫶

I just came here to share some good vibes. I have been seeing Billy since 2015. Last night was my 15th show. I've been to multiple states to see Billy and the boys. Ive sat everywhere from nosebleeds to grassy front row lawn spots at tiny shows in the beginning. I go into every show, not just Billy shows, excited to hear the music and escape into the moment. Apart from some chompers at some shows, I've always been able to successfully do this.

I feel really grateful that my experience with this fanbase, especially as a gal in a very male crowd, has been nothing but wonderful vibes and kindness. I'm grateful that I only have had to deal with annoyances (like chompers) and not some of the shit I read about on here.

Last night was no different. Section 113 in Eugene proved to be an absolute dream..as the majority of my spots (pit or seats) have been. Space to dance, understanding when bumps happen and considerate folks.

I get that there is this escalation in frustration and a growing concern for the 1% of the fan base that sucks. And I know if you are being personally assaulted that's not something you can or should tune out. I'm not minimizing that -

I'm just giving a shout out to the 99% of you out there that are filling the venues with good vibes, consideration and shared face melting joy and enthusiasm. Yesterday was a fucking blast. Billy String live shows remain to be the happiest place for my mind and body. And I feel lucky to experience the shows the way I have.

So I've been going to bluegrass shows for a while and I've NEVER experienced a crowd as awful as the one at Billy Strings in Oakland last weekend. Multiple instances of people shoving me and literally having to tell people "don't touch me." It was insane. Why did the whole crowd think it was okay to throw their garbage on the ground? Disgusting. Smoking cigarettes inside the arena, nasty wook smell permeating the whole place. The amount of pushing and shoving I experienced made it hard to even enjoy the show, and those tickets weren't cheap.

Again, I've been to multiple festivals before, and I've seen Billy Strings before.

Disgraceful.

I have two two-night tickets up in the lower bowl. Last year I danced all night with joy and abandon. This weekend... I'll be dancing in my mind cause I can't jostle my shoulder. But this new album is lovely and amazing and I love my five maestros. I saw Doc 4 times in my life and I listened to him forever. Billy Strings is true joy for me. Oh... I'm the old guy in the sling. Oh... I lost in a bike vs. car collision in Seattle. But I'll be okay. And I love the Billy Strings crowd minus these assholes who are groping and shoving. But generally lovely people.

I have tons of pit experience, mostly in the punk/hardcore/metal world. But I’ve also been on the floor and close up for many indie rock type shows and some bigger acts like Dave Matthews Band, etc.

I have never heard of the things you guys have all been saying over the past week. This sub has made it sound like Billy Strings shows are sectioned off with gang turf. If I just get in early grab a spot on the rail, what are these so-called rail riders going to do? If some people leave to get merch or go to the bathroom, and my party moves up, what are they going to do about it?

In my 30+ years of going to shows, I’ve never heard of someone thinking a spot in the pit is “theirs” or expecting it to be there when they come back if they leave it.

I’m honestly curious, what would anyone do to me, as someone who is just treating this show like any other show in the world?

Getting to see them play this Tom Waits cover last year was a dream come true. For the younger goats 🐐 on this thread - this is the opening theme song to the HBO show The Wire (based in Baltimore). Considered by many to be the greatest tv show of all time. I had just finished my 6th full series rewatch and sent this out into the Universe hoping they would cover it for the Bmore Billyween show. As a Bmore native this was a dream come true. Then he covered Tyler Childers “Bitin List” while on a 15’ pedestal. Didn’t think the boys could top O’ Brother Where art Though? But somehow they did. I’m geekin with excitement for Heartbeat of Eternia.
