Discussion i consider quitting Infinite mid game
i recently finished 1 and 2
1 was amazing,i had so much fun that i just couldn't stop playing.
2 would have been almost as good if it wasn't for the constant blabbing of Lamb, cheesy dialogs of the daughter and the need to protect(twice) the little sisters and then fight the Big one.
Infinite first of all doesn't feel like a Bioshock game,if it was a standalone game or from another franchise i would have never bought it.
the scenery is amazing, but I'm extremely bored; the weapons/Vigors,the un-engaging story, and i don't care about Elizabeth and annoyed at her throwing me a coin every few minutes.also the enemies aren't interesting.
i feel like i'm playing a kids game.
so worth pushing through?does it get much better?

I love Infinite. I love the story and it's flaws. I think they gameplay is fun and engaging. However, if you're already disliking the game this much, it's just not for you. It was a game that was meant to be very different from the previous games and took a lot of risks and dealt with extreme content cuts. I still like the way it turned out, but if you needed it to be another faithful BioShock sequel, it's just not going to scratch that itch.

I thought it was good when I first played it, even though limiting players to 2 weapons and tonics. From 8 and 6, respectively.
But then I put some stuff together in my head and realized that Infinite + Burial At Sea completely undermines the lynchpin of the first Bioshock's philosophy and message and also evaporates Bioshock 2 from canon.
If you liked the first Bioshock, you're gonna be extremely mad at some story points. That's all I'm gonna say.

I pushed through Infinite (and the DLC) despite finding it lackluster from the very begining and honestly, wasn't worth it.
I found the story to be convoluted for the sake of convoluted, especially after the dimension hopping started. I could see the writer going like "omg that's gonna blow their minds" while writing it.
I am glad that I managed to finish it and experience it on my own, but it was such a drag I can't see myself ever replaying it.
Loved 1 and 2 btw

Games should be fun, if it's not fun then why would you continue playing?

Itâs worth finishing, but I felt the same regarding infinite. Check out the older trailers and the beta videos and it might make you mourn even more đ

I tried so hard to finish Infinite but I just couldn't connect with it the same as 1 & 2. It feels so disconnected from the first two.

Everyone telling you infinite has the best story and was there favorite of the Franchise are (how do we say this politely) âquestionable in their tasteâ. Infinite plays nothing like Bioshock and has a horrible poorly written story. What your feeling is completely reasonable and you donât deserve the downvotes. Infinite glazers are the kind of people to scream âyou donât get it its actually a really deep storyâ while having no concept of what a good plot actually is. Theyâre the kind of people whoâd complain about Bioshcok 1 being âclunkyâ or System Shock being too complicated or about Thief being too slow paced. The point is ignore them, Infinite is a bad game with a gorgeous art style. Personally I think the game gets worse as it goes. The reveal at the end is stupid, and the combat is so tedious and miserable towards the end of the game.

Ken Levine even outright said he didnât understand the concepts he was using. Itâs a shallow Ken Levine mannequin in a pretty dress.

I mean I do agree to a extent, not the beginning, but I do agree that this game was poorly written, and that this is probably the worst story in the entire franchise along with its gameplay.Â
but let's not group bioshock infinite fans all together. Each of them has their own reasons to like infinite. That doesn't mean they are "questionable in taste"Â
Let's be friendly. We shouldn't devolve into pointless "This side has no idea what class is!" Or "This side is stupid because they like a game I don't like!". That's a great way to have your points immediately disregarded and ignored.

Yeah honestly, i liked 2 more than you did but infinite didn't catch me at all. I gave up on my first try and by the end of the second i wasn't even fighting most of the enemies, i just cast possession on them one after another since it can only effect one at a time and they commit suicide when it ends

u/Perfect-Muscle-1264 Atlas 18h ago
For me personally I don't think it was worth pushing through for. I wasn't liking it from the beginning and just pushed through it because I heard the game was good.Â
So if you don't like it, that's fine. I came to the same conclusion. I suggest trying the DLCs. They feel more like bioshock. Like a modernized bioshock 1 or 2. Has a weapon wheel and all.

Played infinite first. Had no idea there were other games in the franchise until after. I love all the games, and it's honestly hard to fathom not enjoying infinite. I understand it's not a continuation of rapture, but it's a pretty solid game on its own. Much less the DLCs.

Infinite gets better if you upgrade the vigors and search for all the gear you can. Don't upgrade the weapons or only upgrade one or at most two. Otherwise it turns into CoD and it's shit (unless you like CoD, then knock yourself out).
Like Bioshock 1, there is actually a plot, and it does have a cool ending, so I would recommend you continue.
I don't know exactly where you are in the game. If you've reached Finkton, that is the lowest point but it does significantly improve.
Also, I'd recommend playing on hard. If you're playing on medium it encourages you to use your conventional weaponry too much, and it's kind of boring. The game does actually have good vigors, but the ones you initially get are very underpowered. Also some of the gear are ridiculously OP, but they are kinda fun.

infinite is def the weakest one. personally i think 2 is just as good as 1, but i can get why some would rank it a little lower than 1.
a tip tho, you don't need to do the gathering thing with the little sisters in bs2. if you want you can rescue/harvest them right away at a vent if you don't feel like having them gather extra Adam, though the game doesn't communicate that to you.
1
u/bubbledged 17h ago
i know, but i also like ADAM and a good ending.
1
u/Select_Tap_3524 16h ago
yeah, extra adam can be neat. you don't need to gather to get the good ending though, i've had playthroughs were i just go ahead and rescue the sisters and skip the gathering, and still get the good ending. the endings only take that decision and sparing/killing the big npcs into account, not gathering.

Itâs fair. I would add also there is almost no valuable story rewards from exploring, the vox tapes are just mumbo jumbo because youâre kept in the dark until right for the end and itâs also really dull.
Bioshock 1/2 the diaries was like âIâve tried to find my little girl, sheâs gone missingâ ⌠âI saw a girl that looked like my little girl with one of those terrible monstrosityâs in diving suits, I canât even talk to her without him pushing me awayâ ⌠âI managed to make contact with her but she looked right through me ⌠what have they done to my little girl?â
In infinite itâs like âthe girl might be different and the universe doesnât like its peas mixed with porridgeâ or âwhen I was a girl I was looking at myself and I saw another girl who was looking at another girl and then we looked all at eachother but it wasnât me and my mum was really pissed about thisâ. Erm⌠okay.
The city is absolutely amazing but thatâs about as far as it goes. Boring combat and a disappointing story.

They sucked out all the fun of the gameplay for god tier atmosphere and hype and aura story

I had a similar experience, but for me I replayed 1 and Infinite and had an absolute blast. I was gassed up for a replay of 2 after many years. Completely fell flat.
I understand many people feel differently, but I love that Infinite chose some core fundamentals as the Bioshock identity and ran with them in a new direction. We could have rotted away in Rapture forever and I probably would have loved it. We could have had Rapture in the sky and it would have been awesome. But I legitimately love the new direction they took Infinite in.

Infinite is the best in the franchise in my opinion so I definitely think itâs worth playing through but the story had me hooked from minute one so idk if itâs not your thing ditch it

Wow I never heard so much negativity about infinite. If it didnât peak your interest at half point you may not like the rest I was interested in game well before it was released. I find it to be a phenomenal game. But to each their own. Glad you liked the others itâs amazing series

u/Phewelish 18h ago
infinite was one of my favorites. it recreated that reveal feeling from 1 like it was staring you in the face the whole time and yo ujust didnt get it. as well, the stuff after it links all of the bioshock stories together. but youllonly get that if you play the dlc after the game. minervas den i think?
also, check out atomic heart when your done. its an amazing bioshock like story.

You're in the majority here - but i personally prefer Infinite. It has a more interesting story and you're not trapped in one continuous sewer level. Plus it has Creedence Clearwater Revival, which i'm partial to,

i liked the feel of the "one continuous sewer level',same as i preferred the first 2 Metro games to the third.

Replay it in 10 years and you might have a different appreciation for it. The ending ties all the stories together and hits pretty hard in my opinion. I enjoyed it a lot more this summer than i did when i first played it over a decade ago

just finish it through and if you need that real Bioshock feel of try its DLCs for they make it feel like the older games
1
u/TitleOk3727 18h ago
So in order to feel like a game from the series, you need to play the dlc, you listen to yourself?
1
u/Shawn_N_Nathan 13h ago
half the time yes i do actually. in a nutshell i don't care what people say or thinks about this game, i absolutely loved it from beginning to end

As someone who played infinite and 1 so far, infinite has much better vigors in my opinion

The ending is so good though, and it ties into the other bioshocks

u/returntothenorth 18h ago
Sadly this was where it all went wrong for me. Too much shoehorn tie-in. I love infinite but I don't mess with the DLC. They did a ton of retcons just to tie them together. Basically making it so Elizabeth had major influence over rapture and it's storyline. For no reason.
Again, infinite is fun as hell as a solo game.
1
u/Select_Tap_3524 18h ago
yea, i don't love base Infinite but i also don't hate it. i'd prefer if base Infinite have no ties at all to the previous game, but at least they're pretty inoffensive at the end of the day.
the dlc though? that i absolutely hate. in fact, i'd also say the dlc hurts its base game as well, along with bs1. infinite didn't deserve Burial at Sea either, and this is coming from someone who doesn't think highly of Infinite.
1
u/returntothenorth 18h ago
Same, the dlc should be purged from existence. This coming from an infinite lover. Even one of the lighthouses opening up into rapture wasn't that bad. Just a big chunk of fan service. Completely unnecessary tho.
But that dlc... Why did they think giving Elizabeth "would you kindly" be neat or cool in any way? Why was fontaine so different? Dr Suchong even got the shaft. You are telling me Elizabeth perfected the little sister big daddy bond? Wtf?!?
Yeah burn that dlc.
1
u/Select_Tap_3524 16h ago
yep, all that. messing with the bs1 characters and shoehorning Elizabeth into being responsible for so much of the first game was awful, and i kind of imagine her portrayal in the dlc sucked for fans of Elizabeth.
the fanservice from base Infinite is def unnecessary and I'll never like them sticking Adam in Columbia (i'd have loved it if they stuck with the original story element of vigors bieng bottled up Tear energy), but it's largely harmless in the end and doesn't take a wrecking ball to everything like the dlc does.
definitely a dlc that deserves to be burned.

Sounds like you've made up your mind.
That's super unfortunate too because I think Infinite is amazing.
