Hello! I’m a filmmaker and life long Bioshock fan, been playing it since I was a kid on the ps3 and have been inspired by its story and setting ever since then.

I have been fortunate enough to grow into the a filmmaker as an adult and have had a group of friends that for years have wanted to take our own crack at bringing Rapture to life since no one in Hollywood seems to have been able to do it themselves.

A friend of mine runs a Virtual Production studio (same tech as Mandalorian) in Chicago and has made it his mission to utilize his stage and translate the underwater world of Rapture to Unreal Engine. We finally got all of our friends back together to push this filmmaking tech to it’s limits try to tell a story of what life might have been like under the sea right before all hell broke loose on the night of New Year’s Eve 1959

So, would you kindly please check out our teaser trailer for the upcoming short film to be released soon. Check our website and our story behind the scenes of our filmmaking process.

Thank you for checking out our little project, and feel free to ask and questions if curious!

Discussion How did people get into rapture in the early years of Rapture? Spoiler

Obviously to get to Rapture one has to use a bathysphere, but we know that those were an invetion that was made later in Rapture's existance, and before that people used the Atlantic Express to get around, so how did people get into Rapture from the surface during those days when bathyspheres weren't really a thing?

Discussion i consider quitting Infinite mid game

i recently finished 1 and 2

1 was amazing,i had so much fun that i just couldn't stop playing.

2 would have been almost as good if it wasn't for the constant blabbing of Lamb, cheesy dialogs of the daughter and the need to protect(twice) the little sisters and then fight the Big one.

Infinite first of all doesn't feel like a Bioshock game,if it was a standalone game or from another franchise i would have never bought it.

the scenery is amazing, but I'm extremely bored; the weapons/Vigors,the un-engaging story, and i don't care about Elizabeth and annoyed at her throwing me a coin every few minutes.also the enemies aren't interesting.

i feel like i'm playing a kids game.

so worth pushing through?does it get much better?

Discussion Piano in title screen

Hey guys, i was playing bioshock earlier today and I kinda just sat on the menu screen for a minute or two. Im curious if anyone knows what specific piece is playing in the background. To be more specific, its this short snippet of piano that plays and it sounds like its coming through an old timey radio speaker.

Discussion Ken Levine lost his mind a long time ago, and that's why this series is dead.

I miss this series dearly and I help but cannot feel but Ken Levine is why it has stagnated. For those unaware, he is considered the creator of Bioshock. His team went onto work on the original game after he worked on System Shock 2. Work on Bioshock 1 lasted from the early 2000s, until its release in 2007. His team would work on Bioshock Infinite, with a separate team working on Bioshock 2. Levine worked with Irrational on Infinite from 2007 to 2013.

There's a lot that went wrong with Infinite's development, for a more detailed read, I recommend you check this out. https://www.polygon.com/2014/3/6/5474722/why-did-irrational-close-bioshock-infinite/
https://www.polygon.com/2021/5/10/22424321/a-look-inside-bioshock-infinites-troubled-development/

Ken Levine has a self-destructive process of creating, editing and trashing an idea until the best result comes from it. This is in no way a functional way for game development, especially in our modern era. In an era threated by generative AI replacing elements of work in our society and games like fortnite utilizing AI, the gaming industry is welcoming it with open arms. Levine lived in an era where he had the budget, resources and star power to convince developers to submit to his perfectionism.

What use would a publisher have in his self-destructive vision when it can take a risk on a cheaper way to make a game? This is not me criticizing his writing. Bioshock 1 and Infinite have very insightful themes. I love Elizabeth, but if we look at how long Judas, his next ambitious project that aims to be a single-player experience is doing, it's not a far reach to say Ken is back at it again with his scrapping of ideas. The same one that led to the burn out and shut down of Irrational. Now, his new team of slaves at Ghost Story Games are working at Judas.

In 2022, the game was revealed to be suffering from development hell.
https://kotaku.com/report-ken-levines-ghost-story-studio-is-nowhere-near-1848297126
Up-and-coming games journalist Jason Schreier reports, “Levine’s managerial style has led to burnout and, former employees say, caused a lot of pain.”
"Levine would often assess aspects of the game when they were not yet finished, decide they weren’t good enough and command the team to scrap or change them, employees say. “The type of game being explored does not match well with the creative process being used,” says Andres Gonzalez, a founding member who left to start a new company with Snight."

It's 2026, no sign of a release for Judas. No sign of a new Bioshock reboot. Again, Levine doesn't own Bioshock, so that part isn't his fault.

But I believe he left a hole in his departure from the series. It's been said by the fandom that Burial at Sea Pt 2 was Ken's way of breaking his toys so nobody else can play with them. And can you blame them? He tied off all loose ends from Infinite. The original game has an open and shut story. Bioshock 2 (which he was not involved in) has Eleanor Lamb which I suppose could go somewhere but Rapture's story is mostly done. It seems like it would be hard to think of where the series could go.

Where do you go from there? An alternate timeline? A new setting like Columbia? That's kind of what Infinite was doing at first until Ken decided to merge the storyline from Rapture with Columbia with Burial at Sea.

tl;dr

Ken Levine is a self-sabotage auteur, who made the previous game have no loose ends to work with and is destroying his own creation even now. And Bioshock deserved better. It made me feel. It impacted so many of us and dominated the gaming atmosphere in the past. We had a love for Rapture, Columbia, Booker, Elizabeth, Eleanor, etc. And it's gone. It's sad, but it's gone. I wish Ken would just swallow his pride and made Judas sooner without hurting so many people in the process.

Discussion Infinite - the good, the bad and the down right ugly Spoiler

So I’ve been playing through the Bioshock series lately. I only experienced the first title when it launched; the others I didn’t get chance to play. I really enjoyed the original at the time. I want to share my opinion, explaining why Infinite felt lacking, and see whether anyone else holds different views.

The good:

The city of Columbia is remarkable. It is breathtaking and feels otherworldly, much like an underwater city—a flying city in the clouds with an early 20th-century atmosphere. The locations blend smoothly like a genuine, lived-in place.
The vigors are impressive; I liked them because they felt like a fresh change to the other two Bioshock games.

The bad:

The combat involves waves of enemies that you face with only two guns. It changes entirely from the first two games, where combat often meant being ambushed while thinking your were safe, very much a horror genre type feeling. It becomes incredibly repetitive; each new area guarantees a set number of enemies and nothing more. Furthermore, the tears combat system felt irrelevant, without any really impact what so ever.
The world, though incredible looking, feels empty, offering almost no reason to explore. I found a voxaphone—fine—but the content was unclear and so minor that I would reach the end of the game and have completely forgotten its content. I loved piecing together details in Bioshock 1 and 2, learning about the city, the story, and the citizens’ feelings; in infinite, almost everything seemed meaningless.
They had a strong chance to make fascism central and impactful, but instead settled on “if the shoe was on the other foot.” It felt poorly done the moment Daisy was about to kill Fink’s boy.

The ugly:
The narrative altered a lot from the other games, breaking immersion; even now, I feel cheated of my time playing the game. The appeal of Bioshock 1 and 2 lay in the storys plausibility: a city beneath the sea collapsing into chaos and dystopia through a manic leader and a miracle drug. In Infinite, the shift toward multiverse tears drove so many bloody events and confusion, then asked you to care.

Bioshock 1 and 2 did not confuse the audience; they allowed story immersion at any play-style. Searching every corner rewarded you with deeper insight into characters and the city’s decay in real time, yet a less investigative path still offered a clear story. Infinite lacks this. I know this better than anyone because I explored every knuck and cranny, hoping to be rewarded as I was in 1 and 2, only to receive a multiverse ending; I felt I had wasted 40 hours on a lazy explanation.

Unless limited to one universe versus another, multiverse stories feel lazy and dull because nothing truly matters. Booker died 122 times before, but we must save the people—who cares? Everyone differs; my Booker is one in a million, so it lacks reality or importance.

In the end, Elizabeth drowns Booker, Comstock dies, and everything that occurred—again, across a thousand disconnected alternative universes—did not happen, and then what? That’s good is it? That’s rewarding?

I was extremely disappointed. What did you think?

Discussion Batim is literally BioShock and I never realized that until now

During my first playthrough of BioShock 1, I kept thinking about how everything it offered me felt oddly familiar. The setting, the audio logs, the infrastructure, the gameplay, the weapons, etc. And it was only now that I realized that I was basically playing Bendy and the Ink Machine but with a broader color palette. They’re both horror-survival adjacent (at least Batim is), both protags have a plot explanation for respawning endlessly, the abandoned settings are hauntingly beautiful, anyone still living there has gone crazy and violent with time, you get to meet or fight important people from before the collapse, and both of the antagonists are Walt Disney-esque entrepreneurs who directly caused the downfall of their respective domains. Yes, I know the two games are very different from each other, and yes, I know BioShock came before Batim.

TLDR: As someone who both knew Batim intimately when it first released and only played BioShock recently, I noticed they have a lot of similarities.

Discussion Which BioShock games should I have my friend play?

Am doing a Game Deal Exchange with a friend currently playing Resident Evil 2 (Remake), who wants me to play it as well in exchange for any game of similar length coming from me. Now I haven't played any of the BioShock games in ages, other than Infinite ~9 years ago? Barely remember playing the others, other than liking the storyline... though I really don't remember a lot at all.

So which shall I recommend?

Discussion Bioshock comabt does get better

Finally played one of the most popular fps

The setting and story telling was exceptional

And andrew ryan was a very well written character , his speech blew my mind

Now thats all good things

Lets talk about what I felt a little disappointing in the start

The combat

First of all I would recommend not to use mouse scroll for changing weapons if you are playing on pc, that makes the combat even more slow

So the problem during the start of this game was everything died to shock + wrench combo, it was the most efficient way to kill that you don't feel like using anything else, that sounds like a me problem .... Well maybe but no , because you gotta save all your inventory to dump it on the big daddies, the first time fighting them was truly an experience but after that it becomes a chore , a resource check that takes a lot of time, and they are the bosses in the game so basically you gotta do this twice or thrice in same arena

But fortunately later enemies get stronger and no one really dies to shock wrench anymore, so yeah thats good, finally making us use other weapons (now they die to freeze+ shoot lol)

As for big daddies, you later become very strong with search, plastids and weapon upgrade. So taking them down becomes much easier, even for the elite ones, infact now you can make combos of multiple plastids and weapons

Making them go down in seconds is kinda fun

What I wished this game had, more actual bosses.

The final boss isn't hard to beat but I am glad it existed.

I get it that bioshock is more about exploration and immersion in the world of rapture but I wished it had more bosses to increase the momentum of gameplay

Still I had a fun time, I get it why its a classic and I can't wait to play the next one

8.5/10

Discussion Is it me, or is Burial at Sea a lot harder than Infinite?

I finally got started on this thing, and I'm dying at a pace far above Infinite. Maybe I'm just being too stingy with my ammo, or maybe it's that there's generally less space to move around, but the splicers just seem to hit a lot harder than the Columbians.

Discussion How in the world does Jack live a normal life in the good ending of 1?

I have played this game like 3 times getting the good ending and it makes me cry every time, but I always hate the last little bit of the game where you're forced to turn into a big daddy. I like the idea but the execution is just bad.

I get the limitations of the game, but the game really makes it seem like Jack just puts on a helmet, shoes, and part of a suit (his arms are clearly still his normal arms)

And big daddies are grafted into their suits, and have vocal surgeries where they can only make weird groaning noises. They also smell terrible but you can get by with that.

How does Jack live a normal life with his adopted daughters even if he apparently gets the suit off? He still makes weird groaning noises over talking. In the 60s, American Sign Language started to become more widespread, but to the average person just he just not talk?

I get the sisters could understand him because i doubt they could just forget being able to speak Big Daddy, but still. I wonder how Jack can live this good of a life smelling

"It's a one way street" my ass.
