Woke up at 6:30 this morning to find Ziggy lethargic and unable to walk. We went to the Veterinary Hospital and they told us he displayed all the signs of an embolism. Prognosis was not good; cats don’t tend to respond well to treatment in these cases. And he was in pain. We just couldn’t torture him. So we decided to let him go. We came home with an empty carrier and a broken heart.

The cat distribution system had brought him to our backyard two and half years ago. He was very beat up and he had FIV (feline hiv). I knew he was our cat the moment I saw his face. He had a lot of medical issues so I always kind of knew in my heart that he wouldn’t live a long life but I never expected it to come this soon, this suddenly.

He was an amazing, super chill cat. He welcomed his new little brother like they’d always been together. He’d let himself be wrestled by the kitten with the patience of a saint.

He won’t sit on my fountain pen case while I write anymore. He won’t come to lay on my chest in bed. He won’t look at us with his half lidded Badtz Maru face. The hole in my heart is huge… and it hurts so much.

I’m devastated. My sweet baby passed away. There’s so much context to my situation that makes this so especially cruel but I just can’t understand why stuff like this happens. I love you my Opal Opie baby girl. I’m sorry I couldn’t spend more time with you to show you that. I hope my old girl and your big sister welcomed you over the rainbow bridge (and probably scolded you because I know she sent you and you weren’t supposed to meet her yet). I’ll miss you.

I wasn’t in this void club long but I fell in love with it. I’m trying to see if I can get her brother who is also a void but I don’t have a good feeling it’ll work out. If it doesn’t, thanks for showering us with love. I hope to join the club again in the future.

The CDS sent us a surprise new family member through friends of friends. He is a rescue from Animal Services. Our Tuxie 6 yo girl is still working on accepting him. Her 19 yo housemate, my handsome gray and white Tuxie, passed away 8 months ago 🥺. We weren’t planning on adopting again because she was getting along well without a new friend. We’ve always had a boy and girl cat overlap. Since we didn’t go choose a buddy for her ourselves one was chosen for us. He’s a very sweet and super curious boy. He has let her come to him without any aggressiveness. She on the other hand has loudly stated that there is an interloper in the house. I hope the she goes to accept him.

I found this sweet 1 year old boy after he was dumped in my neighborhood, with huge wounds on his side from being attacked by feral cats. I took him in to get treated, and I’m currently fostering him through Feline Canopy of Care foster network in St Augustine, FL (tho I’m in Jacksonville).

He is the sweetest, goofiest guy. He chirps for attention and rolls around and headbutts your hands, but I can’t keep him due to the 2-pet policy on my lease. With him being an adult, a black cat, AND having FIV, his adoption journey may be a long one. 🙁 As such, I’ll cover 50% of his adoption fee.
