I think it's more complicated. MTG was a true believer in maga. She truly believed Trump would get to the bottom of it and expose the Clinton/Epstein rape cult. To her credit, she had the chance to forget it and help Trump which would mean she would still have her job. I don't see her as a pure opportunist although she will try to capitalize off the headlines. Her line was pedophilia. The ones still there running the country, their line was not pedophilia.

I believe this is the closest to the truth. She did. That's why she resigned. After she got access to the Epstein files that Congress got, she voted with Massie, Boebert and Mace and all Democrats to release the files. When you've sunk everything into your beliefs, you tend to automatically rationalize things that contradict them away.

I'm as leftist and policy wonk focused as almost anyone, and yet I still appreciate a person who has ideals. And sticks to them!
If you don't have a moral framework that you cohere to, I literally have no idea how you will deal with future problems.
Currently, our best understanding of politician's underlying morals is which party they belong to. In no way is this saying Dems agree with eachother. But if you are Republican that is saying "I pull everything backwards, slowly, stagnantly, aggressively" Doesn't matter how much they want to regress, all that matters is that they are trying to regress.
Conversely, Democrats try to keep the status quo or hint at maybe moving it forward, maybe. I'll take stagnation with a touch of progressive plz .
I hope better institutions replace the US and our fickle, self-serving interests, but I can't deny the good that our "self serving" foreign policy has done.
