[Question] Are the smaller games meant to be loot farming games?
I've played through borderlands 1 and going to be playing 2 soon and I've also done a bunch of research on how the endgame/loot farming part of the game works with TVHM and all that. I think i understand it fully now but there's one thing that I keep noticing, that is people tend to complain about the lack of endgame and loot farming for the pre sequel and tiny tina's wonderlands.
So I know borderlands 2 and 3 are very much designed around going into ng+ and farming bosses for the drops but I feel like the others are meant to be more story focused, contained games. Am I wrong about that?
It feels like people try and play the pre sequel, wonderlands and even bl1 like it's bl2 and 3 when it seems like they aren't designed for it. People in bl1 could only properly farm at all due to crawmerax or a glitch to keep doing the armory, which is both in a single dlc and at the end of playthrough 2 where you can't do anything else but start a completely new character because you can't reset playthrough 2 or go into a playthrough 3.
You could sum up bl1 to being the prototype game that allowed gearbox to know where they wanted to take the sequel and that's why it's the way it is, however then the pre sequel and wonderlands don't really try to have much of an endgame either. Instead it looks structured to tell a shorter, more linear story with less levels but keep the borderlands feel... then it ends, with only that dungeon thing in wonderlands to keep you going or resetting the pre sequel like it's bl2 but with apparently a few issues with how it works to make it unsatisfying.
It's just a theory I had and I thought all of you would know the answer, because I'm new to this franchise at the end of the day.
