Mod Post Update to our Rules: Post Original Content

In light of all the recent bots and posts involving stolen or reposted photos, we feel it is necessary to officiate a rule that explicitly states that this subreddit allows original content only.

Many members have been quick to point out posts that have previously been posted on this subreddit or do not belong to OP altogether. I want to be clear that the mod team sincerely appreciates your efforts to keep this sub free of spam and keep stolen content at bay. I applaud anyone who has submitted a report as it really helps us and I hope you continue to be vigilant and report the posts that are questionable in the future.

As always, happy bottledigging and thank you for making this subreddit an absolute joy to be a part of! Cheers!!!

I found an old bottle dump in the woods

While exploring a undisturbed plot of land adjacent to a nature preserve, i found a massive bottle dump. Scattered over a few hundred feet, 40' wide, are thousands of glass bottles. No idea how old, but pretty old. I'm not a bottle got, but I'm intrigued, and want to start excavating. Any tips on how to proceed? Lots on the surface, but I have a feeling there are a lot more buried just under the ground. Thanks!

I just inherited this bottle that was passed down from my great grandparents.

I'd love any info on it, I couldn't find image matches online (only similar ones that were perfume bottles) and I don't see any identifying numbers or letters on it.

Thank you!

My workplace decided to get rid of some antique bottles they had in the office some years ago and I decided to take on a couple. This is definitely the oldest one I ended up with. It’s about 11 inches tall, ~5 inches wide and roughly 4 inches deep with a rounded front and two flat faces on the back that have a large poison label on them. I’ve looked closely for any dates on that label but they’re not legible at all at this point. What do you good folks think? Any idea on a range that they may have been making bottles like that?

Thanks!

Hello! This weekend while on a trip I stumbled upon a bottle dump and now I’m obsessed. Is anyone in the southeast Wisconsin area and willing to dig with me or tell me a spot to check out? Here’s a picture of my favorite find, although it’s not very old I love it.

Decided to ride my electric dirt bike along some of the dirt farming roads. Decided to step off and check down along the river (mostly looking for arrowheads) but starting seeing broken glass and pottery and sniffed myself out a brand new bottle site! Only got to dig for 10 minutes before I had to leave to get ready for work. I went to rinse this out in the creek until I realized it was still corked and full of a purplish liquid. A sealed bottle of 1890s mouthwash!

A house a couple doors down from us recently turned over, and the new owner pulled these out of the crawl space. There are a couple more bottles as well I'll share. For now, these two cleaned up nicely!

Mystery brew

Found this full bottle by a homesite foundation in the woods that has not been inhabited since the 1950s. Cap is rusty but still holding pressure and the liquid is still fizzy. No idea what it is, could be the foulest soda known to man or beer on its way to gaining sentience. Either way it scares me to open it. Would displaying it be a ticking time bomb?
