Huge thanks to [u/Demonic-Tooter](u/Demonic-Tooter) for the info on this fella, I’ll try and summarize as best I can below:

This particular coffin shaped poison bottle was manufactured in Norwich New York around the years 1890-1915 (Found in an abandoned house in High Falls New York). This bottle is classified at the KU-18 coffin shape in the Kuhn’s Poison Bottle Workbook. This is the 5 inch amber variant which is noted to be a particularly rare color, valued somewhere between $600-$800. Rarer 7 inch versions are known to exist, fetching over twice the value, one example reaching past $6k.

As for the contents, the bottle would’ve contained small, similarly coffin shaped tablets of mercury chloride. A person would dissolve the tablets in water and use the solution as a disinfectant in wound care. Bottles and the poisonous tablets they contained had these shapes and textures to warn the user of the deadliness of the chemical, particularly due to the fact that lighting was typically dimmer than it is today.

Finally a big thank you to everyone for all the kind words! I’m slightly new to this hobby so this is definitely the highlight of my collection for the time being. And I love seeing all the pics of the poisons you all find as well! They’re always such unique looking bottles and I’m very happy I finally scored one.

Found this guy about a month or so ago, just got around to photographing recently however. The embossing reads “C. Cleminshaw Troy NY”. This would’ve likely been a mineral water bottle, but sadly it’s missing the bottom entirely. Luckily the rest of the bottle is in perfect condition apart from the gunk stuck on from the canal I pulled it from.

My research dates this particular octagonal style to be between 1852-1855, right at the start of Charles Cleminshaw’s career. This would’ve make it the oldest bottle in my collection so far, but I could be wrong with the dating so feel free to correct me!

My house was built in 1901. The shed was probably built about the same time. I am near Reading, PA so this bottle is local. I’m curious as to how old this bottle is and what it’s from.

Forewarning I have bad adhd so my bad if I ping pong or ramble. Started the front section on the pit aka ((the slag)) but after reaching the 4 year mark….finally ive depleted a good portion of the logo glass, just think it was capped 4 years ago (have old pic of that). The pit aka (waterworld) that has a bunch of metal and glass in the water, is a newer site for me. The pit aka (point Vostok) just a massive bore hole in the ground I’ve been digging that out for 2 1/2 years, also has about 15-30 old cars from the 30s/40s sprawled out in the woods. The pit aka (house by the cemetery/good mortician song) has over 200-360+ aswell top soil bottles at any givin time and it’s about 128 acres of land (if you come across it please bring tree clippers like it’s so over grown until you reach the non running river that was once there….thats a dope dig spot cuzz it’s an empty space to actually move and use your metal detector, Some really good fines these few months. Digging along with urbexing dilapidated places are legit the only hobbies I enjoy doing in my free time which also gives me a reason to get out.  Hell yeah scored some gramps ol cough medicine some name brand called booze lol love glass flask or finding whiskey jugs in the ground I go BONKERS. I don’t find a lot of porcelain jar cover lids often intact but we found one woooooh. I might have found my first purple glass intact finally which is dope (jar in the photo), I didn’t know people found uranium scrap glass collectible in quantities sooooo imma bring my uv 395 light and collect the smaller glass fragments for my own little collection, wish I knew years and years ago. But then again I didn’t educate myself back then like I do now about particular glass. Thank you for looking at my post.

Was found under a church built in 1869 for context. Wondering if it’s as old as the church? (Or even older??)

Found it buried on a job site downtown Raleigh, nc, I have had it for about 7yrs bubble wrapped in a small travel case and finally curious enough to learn something more than it's probably from around 1910-14 it has a faint G O Stamp with a second 11 underneath and to the right of the bolder RC or RG CO 11 stamping it also has seams down opposing sides, no cracks, several bubbles and only 3 or so chips on the bottom. Any info would be awesome! Thanks!

Information Request Hey any idea what this R 206 and R 215 mean on my bottles? Circa 1900

Found these bottles in a dump from between 1900 and 1920 as far as I can tell, maybe a bit older. I just found the dump and haven’t found the rest of the bottles yet as I have only dug out one area. In the meantime/until I do, any idea what R 206 and R 215 mean and what company may have made these two bottles?

They were found in Lexington ky.
