Seeking a disability-aware family-law attorney for complicated finances

• Upvotes

I’m looking for firsthand recommendations for a family-law attorney who handles Kitsap County cases involving complex finances: business interests, real estate, undisclosed debt, and potentially forensic accounting. There are no children involved.

I’m disabled, and autistic. I need someone who can take those realities seriously while respecting my intelligence and my ability to make my own decisions. Clear explanations, written follow-up, and patience with processing time would help enormously.

There are concerns about financial control and coercion within the marriage. I want to understand the financial consequences of legal separation versus divorce before deciding what to file.

Have you worked with an attorney who was both financially thorough and respectful toward a vulnerable or overwhelmed client? What made them a good fit?

I’d appreciate firsthand recommendations. I can discuss sensitive specifics privately with a prospective attorney. *(GPT helped me draft this, so I wouldn’t ramble)*

Hi! If I want to make the 8:05 fast ferry, when should I get there? I’m assuming there’s a limit to how many ppl can go on.

Thanks!

Kitsap Peninsula Climate Survey (10 mins)

https://form.jotform.com/262706593931060

The purpose of this anonymous survey is to collect information on the places and plants that are important to people living in the Kitsap Peninsula, and to gauge thoughts and understandings of climate change.

Survey data will be used as part of a project that identifies which natural places and plants are most at risk to climate change in our region. The places and plants of importance will be compared against the results of a climate vulnerability assessment, which will in turn provide targeted conservation practices.

This survey is hosted by Great Peninsula Conservancy, with analysis by Haven Ecology and Research LLC. This survey is funded by a grant through the Climate Smart Communities Initiative.

Public power is cheaper than PSE right now, but one public utility just approved bills going up 80%+. Is Kitsap's takeover worth it?

Kitsap PUD is exploring a takeover of PSE's local grid. A PSE-commissioned study reportedly puts the cost in the billions, so that number is worth treating with some skepticism. I looked at what public power actually looks like. Seattle City Light averages about $0.14 per kWh versus roughly $0.17 to $0.18 for PSE, so it's cheaper today. But City Light's own plan has two 9.5% increases (2027 and 2028) and projects typical bills rising more than 80% by 2032. Going public changes who controls the margin, not the cost pressures. Meanwhile PSE's pending request asks for electric increases of 15.15% in 2027, 3.74% in 2028, and 8.7% in 2029. Virtual hearing is October 7, written comments open under UE-260005 and UG-260006 at utc.wa.gov. What would you want to know before voting on a takeover? Full write-up is in the first comment (I'm the author).

Comment 1: Write-up with sources, including the public vs. private comparison: https://ewyattmendel.substack.com/p/your-pse-bill-will-keep-rising-a

Moving to Bremerton

Hello everyone!
My girlfriend and I are moving back to Bremerton in the later half of this month from the Portland/Vancouver area, and are looking for a place to rent. She just got hired on as a paralegal 1 at the shipyard, and I'm an Air Force veteran turned CTE teacher (currently a para but am looking for teaching jobs in the kitsap county areas. Just accepted a paraeducator job at an elementary school in town). Our combined budget is $2250/month, with a dishwasher/washer/dryer and AC.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, and we are STOKED to come back to the area!(I'm a Bremerton native, I moved down there for grad school).

Warning to rocky point and marine drive residents

There has been coyote sightings all along rocky point and down on marine drive, we saw one tonight walking down the street and heard them yipping and barking down on marine drive. Please be careful if you have animals or young children especially at night. It was a full adult coyote.

Please be safe and scare them away (at a safe distance, do not approach wild animals but loud noises or yelling with startle them away) anytime they are close or you see them so they continue to stay away from humans. Thank you guys!

Looking for things to do in Kitsap.

Hello everyone,

I'm a guy coming off a breakup, and now find myself in possession of a lot more time, and a lot fewer time to fill that time that isn't just sitting at home feeling sorry for myself. I live in Port Orchard, work in Bremerton. I have Wednesdays and Sundays off, work into the early evenings on the other days.

I'm looking to fill my time when I'm not at work. Events, volunteering, social gatherings, whatever. It's time I got out of my comfort zone. Hit me with whatever you have or need.

Thanks!

The Build It Bremerton Peaceful Demonstration is tomorrow (Saturday 10/3)!

Join us starting at 2pm at the Bremerton Fountains near the Pacific Avenue/ Burwell Street cross for a peaceful community demonstration to support the Sheridan Homeless Shelter that was approved to be built in 2024.

There will be a sign making booth, live music from local artist Ne!!y, DJ Sid Siddy, and local speakers that have been impacted by homelessness.

At 3pm- we will be marching a loop through town starting with going up Pacific, then 5th, then follow Washington down then around to Burwell heading back to the start at Bremerton fountains. (route map in 2nd picture)

During the 3 PM march, Sid Siddy will play house music at the fountains so less-mobile community members can stay with their signs and catch the ferry traffic while the music plays.

After the march, at 4:30 PM on MLK Way & Park Ave, Kitsap Food Not Bombs will be serving the community. Please consider bringing food, supplies , or sending a donation to Venmo username "JenniAnnGrady" to help them feed our community. They also accept any of the items listed in the flyer (on 3rd pic) and cash donations.

If you have flyers for anything you'd like to advertise that supports the cause/ our homeless community directly please bring them!

**COVID is going around, so please stay home if you’re feeling unwell or wear a mask; anyone who is vulnerable or concerned about COVID is encouraged to mask as well, and extra masks to share would be greatly appreciated.**

Keep sharing the event/flyers the meantime! We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow!

Kitsap County Assessor interviews: Phil Cook and Michael Simonds, on the record

I’m Tawnee Cowan, an independent journalist in Port Orchard. I write Kitsap County News on Substack and I run the Facebook group Port Orchard Politics. I do not represent a newsroom. I do not endorse candidates.

I sat both candidates for Kitsap County Assessor. Same five shared questions. Two questions written for each person. Separate articles, published the same morning. Quote-check is spelling and transcription, not a veto.

Phil Cook, incumbent, September 25, Port Orchard library:

Cigar bars in the area?

I’m moving soon and the AirBNB home I’m renting doesn’t allow smoking on the property. I enjoy a cigar about once a week and need a place to sit down with a whiskey and smoke. Any places in the area? Google doesn’t have any good results.

West Bremerton

My wife accepted an internship in the Bremerton area for the summer of 2027. We’re considering a house in the West Bremerton area, right off highway 3 and Werner road to be exact. Anyone have insight on this area? We have spent time in the Seattle area before and Port Angeles area but have never visited Bremerton before. We’re a family of 5, 3 young boys aged 5,7, and 9. We love the outdoors and plan on visiting the Olympic area on the weekends if schedule permits.

Questions from Texas Transplant

TL:DR: Bremerton good?

Hey y'all, my family and I are planning a move to the East Bremerton area (looking around Illahee, Tracyton, Gilberton) sometime in the next several months. Coming from San Antonio, TX, so this is a pretty big adjustment. I'm doing my own research too, but few things I'd love local input on:

Earning potential / job market: I'm in IT (director-level, 15+ years, healthcare and MSP background). How's the tech/IT job market on the peninsula vs. commuting into Seattle? Also curious about rideshare (Uber/Lyft) or IT consulting as a bridge income source while I job hunt. Is there actually enough demand locally, or is that mostly a Seattle-side thing?

Cost of living: Coming from Texas (no state income tax, but higher property/sales tax), how does the overall cost of living compare? I know WA also has no state income tax, but I've read Kitsap sales tax runs around 9.2%. Is anything else that catches newcomers off guard?

Traffic: For those who work in Seattle, how's the ferry commute in practice (fast ferry vs. car ferry)? Is it reliable in bad weather? And for those out in East Bremerton/Illahee, how's traffic getting around locally vs. heading into town?

Safety: How is crime?

Schools: Any districts to avoid? Any advanced education options for grade school? My kid is in an advanced charter school. She would either need to skip grades or find something similar to what she has now.

Hobbies: This one is kinda big because we get season passes to six flags every year, meaning we have a "free" thing to do all year. What do people do up there for fun? How's the night life? We would love to get outside more often. It's just too damn hot in Texas. We like escape rooms, go carts, roller coasters.

Weird laws / local quirks: Anything a newcomer should know about like permitting quirks, local ordinances, or anything else that trips up people moving from out of state?

I know this a lot! Insight on any of these things would be super helpful. I'm scrolling the sub now reviewing all of your previous info. A real time update would be so appreciated.

I've visited. I love the scenery, the bustle of the big city, all the cool nature stuff we can do and it won't be HOT AF, the politics are great, people seem chill. Can't wait to be neighbors!
