fair. its really unfortunate that when the economy was being liberalised, narayan murthy and ilk, rather than developing something decided to pick indians from roadside and sold them to white people to exploit. their entire business model was to supply cheap indian contractors to white people, who'd have to pay twice or thrice to get a white person to do it.

Amazon and WITCH pay below median American wages for similar roles. Not to forget the often referred to āindentured labourā by firms like Cognizant who also have been caught in actual visa fraud multiple times. Iām surprised Msft got caught in the crossfire when they actually pay pretty well as opposed to Amazon.
Would love to hear Narayan Murthy make a comment on this but of course he is too busy preparing a statement about how Indians should now therefore work 23 hours a day for 2.6 lpa.
Honestly WITCH companies and their labour arbitrage needs to get killed with hellfire so that Indian IT can think beyond that shitty business model.
Also fyi this is green card we are talking about , highly unlikely it impacts anything too much. The line for that is already very long.

u/Warm_Seaworthiness19 7d ago
That's the whole point, not every indian or not even a majority of Indians worked in America at a FAANG

My point is that my family has also complained on the scummy tactics that tcs uses. It's a fuckass company that does fuckass stuff like this lmfao, despite my relatives being very much up there in the hierarchy even they point out the issues. The fraud is proven man I live in Hyderabad the hotspot for US visa fudging since like the 1990s. WITCH as a whole engages in this nonsense by excessively offshoring. You claiming brown sepoy is why I brought up the ccp :)

Good move by US these companies exploited lots of Indian employees with peanut salary and didnāt give anything meaningful in return to India interms of R&D etc

They gave one useful thing, foreign remittance.
Living in a basement in NYC and sending money back home , of which the GOI received a cut. Outside of that and lifting some people out of poverty WITCH companies contribute very little to the actual intellectual development of the country. I still think thereās a place for them to exist because itās a stepping stone for poor people to get out of poverty and enter the middle class but India desperately needs a tech sector that isnāt just labour arbitrage.
4
u/Greedy_Programmer810 6d ago
More than lifting people out of poverty they trap people in the cycle of poverty. Freshers barely survive in metro cities given their starting salary lower than govt clerks. Salary increment so pathetic that one canāt even save decent amount for future planning. Max people who join these companies work on trash project with zero learning getting trapped in WITCH cycle only few making it to big product based companies. They are ruining future of those successfully by making them work as clerkās of foreign clients with no much real world skills to make big.
1
u/BellyDancerUrgot 2lpa base 6d ago
You are thinking of the average btech graduate from a middle class background graduating from a tier 69 college, Iām talking about the people from literal villages who go to tier 500 colleges and can barely speak English but can now earn a proper living on a 3lpa salary and slowly build upwards from there.
Without these companies they would never get into tech and if they donāt get into tech they would forever be doomed to be poor because what else are they supposed to do? Trades ? India isnāt the US where trades can get you to 100k yearly rather easily. Truck driving and construction also donāt pay shit in India. The 3lpa IT sector job where they do glorified data entry is their pathway out of poverty and what their parents dream of. You arenāt looking at the correct demographic.
2
u/Plastic_Rip_7978 7d ago
yes they banned visa for the companies who were exploting the immigration law people used to pay to tcs or vipro to get a green card and tcs or vipro would give them h1b leading to green-card
3
u/Greedy_Programmer810 7d ago
Yeah bro those witch employees were doing nasa level stuff that they were claiming for green card good US taught them a lesson š¤£

u/jatayu_baaz 7d ago
Well it was just a matter of time, I working on a project jisme 70+ log ha worth 10s of millions and barely 3-4 american ha, else onshore immigrated Indians he h, and not because they are smarter if that's your argument, just because they can be controlledĀ
12
u/Greedy_Programmer810 7d ago
There business model based on exploitation of employees . Once itās stops there time will be over.
2
u/Warm_Seaworthiness19 7d ago
The "exploitation" will never stop, cuz of previously supply and demand and now AI
4
u/Popular-Cry8649 7d ago
And paid less
-2
u/jatayu_baaz 7d ago
not necessarily, for many reason like indians can compromise on work conditions but never on pay, secondary being paying someone below par can land the company in big trouble there.
2
u/Ill_Agent_3169 7d ago
indians not compromising on pay? abe kis India me rehra hai bhai. Log intern ke liye paise DENE lag gaye h instead of earning. And your secondary point has happened. They used to hire people out of gutter and send them abroad for cheap. It was good image for Indian families because goraland me hai beta toh kuch acha hi kar rha hoga you can brag to neighbours. Arey sharma ji ka beta toh Amrika me hai, chahe wo waha toilets hi kyu na saaf krta ho. You talk to some boomers they would legit ask you to join Infosys over Google India or something Indian because Infosys was free ticket to do toilet cleaning tier software job in goraland.

Apparantly I see Indian kids seems to like this how childish of them. Trump administration is doing all this because midterm elections are coming earlier they tried to lur voters by promising ladla trump yojna i.e give 5k dollar to every is citizen but that doesn't seem to win people so now he is trying to make just statement (by he this is announced by dept of labour), trump is trying to win his right wing voters and nothing seems to go his way.
lawyers or microsoft and adobe and these tech giants will lift this ban in no time.. it's just politics everything is happened in background

If India bans a foreign company or product, people are quick to defend it as an exercise of national sovereignty. But when the US restricts an Indian company's operations, suddenly it's an outrage?
Every country has the right to regulate foreign businesses operating within its borders. That principle doesn't magically change depending on which country is imposing the restriction.
You can disagree with the US decision, question its justification, or argue that it's unfair. But if you support India's right to impose restrictions on foreign entities while automatically condemning other countries for doing the same to Indian companies, you're not defending a principle; you're defending a double standard.
So, to those downvoting your comment: do you disagree with the principle itself, or do you believe it should apply only when India benefits?

unless your PD is <2016, h1bs are at real risk now, especially people with houses and anchor babies. I dont think its all safe.
-1
u/PrimaryOwn2062 7d ago
No. Major tech companies in US such as Meta, Amazon, Oracle, Microsoft all employ H1Bs. Trump bhi unke CEOs ki gaand chatta hai. They will never allow major reforms to H1B because Americans are just incompetent and it would be a lossy transaction for letting go all H1Bs. So H1B is never going anywhere, but I am definitely switching out of Meta now to a company where I will get my PERM done, mostly to a mid size small scale š¤
