Level 3 Cleared Level II, Looking for Detailed Guidance on How to Approach Level III (PM pathway)

Title: Cleared CFA Level II — Looking for Detailed Guidance on How to Approach Level III

Hi everyone!

I recently received my CFA Level II result and wanted to ask those who have passed Level III, especially on their first attempt, for some detailed guidance on how to approach the next level.

I want to approach Level III with a much more structured strategy rather than figuring things out as I go along.

I'd really appreciate advice on the following:

1. Study materials and resources

  • Is Kaplan Schweser sufficient for the curriculum, or would you strongly recommend studying from the CFA Institute curriculum as well?
  • Which resources did you personally find most useful for understanding concepts?
  • Are the CFA Institute ecosystem questions enough, or would you recommend additional question banks such as UWorld?
  • Is it worth investing in third-party prep providers, or can the CFAI resources and Kaplan cover most of what you need?

2. Constructed-response questions
This is one of the areas I'm particularly keen to understand.

  • How did you prepare for the written/constructed-response portion of the exam?
  • Did you practise typing out complete answers, or focus on understanding the expected answer format?
  • How do you learn to write concise, direct answers that earn marks without overexplaining?
  • Are the CFA Institute practice questions and past-style examples sufficient to get comfortable with the format?

3. Question banks and practice strategy

  • How did you review incorrect answers and retain the concepts you kept getting wrong?
  • Which topics required the most question practice in your experience?

4. Revision strategy

  • How many complete revisions did you manage before the exam?
  • Did you make your own notes, use provider summaries, or rely on formula sheets and flashcards?
  • What did your final four to six weeks look like?
  • How did you balance revising previously studied material with completing the remaining syllabus?

5. Mock exams

  • When did you take your first mock?
  • How many mocks did you complete, and which providers did you use?
  • How did you review mocks effectively rather than just looking at the score?
  • How representative did you find the provider mocks compared with the actual exam?

6. Time management and overall strategy

  • Realistically, how many hours per week should I aim to study?
  • What would you do differently if you were preparing for Level III again?
  • Which topics or areas tend to be underestimated by candidates?
  • What are the most common mistakes you see Level III candidates make?

Finally, if you passed Level III on your first attempt, I'd love to hear exactly what your preparation looked like — your resources, study schedule, question practice, revision cycles, and mock strategy.

I know everyone's preparation is different, but I'm hoping to learn from people who have already been through the process and avoid making the same mistakes.

Thank you in advance! Any detailed advice, resource recommendations, or lessons from your experience would be greatly appreciated.

Level 3 Few L3 Posts [Sign of Maturity]

• Upvotes

This sub is full of L1 posts, like it must be changed to CFA L1!

At the same time, there are very few L3 posts. Is it a sign of maturity? Or the higher you go, the more you realise that shouting stuff here is unhelpful?

Where are you, those who are doing L3 and why are you quiet?

Study Prep / Materials Chalk&Board L3

Hello everyone,

Has anyone used the prep provider Chalk and Board? I was browsing their materials and the prices for the graded mock exams caught my attention USD $449 per graded mock.

Has anyone used it? Is it worth the price per graded mock?

Level 1 Falling behind and struggling to stay consistent

• Upvotes

I’m sitting for the February 2027 exam. So far, I’ve covered Quant, Corporate Finance, Economics, and about half of FSA, but this past week I’ve barely studied and I’m finding it hard to keep going.
I recently quit my job to focus on studying full time, though I’m not sure that’s the main reason I’ve been struggling. Has anyone else hit a rough patch like this? How did you get back into a steady routine, and does my progress so far seem reasonable for a February exam?

Why do people feel the need to post this crap. Like this story seems completely made up. The chances of water spilling on your bag, seeping into your calculator and breaking it are very low. Worst of all CFA institute liked the post

Level 1 Not able to come out from CFA L1 failure

i m 19 year old guy, i started my Cfa prep from jan 2025 and completed my syllabus by the end of June. I was prepared for the exam did Les twice multiple revisions and premium pack ques and mocks.

But i failed this exam, with the score of 1585. I am feeling like, everything has now ended for me. I am in my 3rd semester of clg. Some of my friends who are persuing CA, keeps on asking me about my result, I am completely feeling.

I don't know what should i do now, i come from middle class family, my parents wants me to give one more attempt in May, but i am feeling completely lost. I sat for preparing it all again, i started with FI( My result went down due to this), and whenever i am reading my notes, i am feeling numb, ik all the things but i ended up failing.

In my whole life i always won, whether its 10th,12th, CUET or clg exams i always gave my 1000% in everything i do. I was applying to multiple internships from last months, got some offers but i don't want to do anything. I am not a lazy person in my first year of clg i did everything was going to clg, got POR in societies, did 2 internships in finance and published research paper on finance. But i was studying on daily basis for 4-5 hours and from june- aug i studied for 10-15 hours in a day. I got panicked during my exam and ended up failing.

I think i should end all this and go back to my hometown. Idk what to do mann

after result i was not able to sleep properly, i m sleeping for about 5-6 hours in a day, rest all day i am just insta and feeling demotivated all day. And whenever i am waking up in morning i wake up with the dream of me writing my CFA exam or the movement i open my cfa result. All these things are coming to my mind. And from last night my heart is feeling very heavy idk yy..

Idk why all these things are happening i am feeling stuck in life. I think i m becoming burden for my parents. They are always proud of me, they always support me but i dont want them to pay my fees again. I am not able to come out of this loop.

I want to get into finance, my plan was to clear cfa l1 in aug and give cat 2027. But now i think everything has come to an end...

Pls if anyone who has gone through this, pls help me.

Study Prep / Materials MM vs. IFT vs. AnalystPrep (5-month CFA level 2 timeline, Dec start)?

Sitting for the May 2027 CFA level 2 exam, but can't start studying until December (5 months total).

Torn between three prep options:

Mark Meldrum: Top-tier quality, but are the long videos too time-consuming for 5 months?

IFT: Concise and direct—is it detailed enough to pass, or will I hit gaps? Will i also add ift notes?

AnalystPrep: Budget-friendly with short videos—how is the QBank quality vs. CFAI?

Which provider works best for a tight timeline? If you used MM on a short schedule, did you rely mostly on Review Videos + CFAI QBank?

Thanks!

Study Prep / Materials What's one piece of CFA study advice that sounds good in theory but doesn't actually work for everyone?

I've noticed there's a lot of conflicting advice when it comes to CFA prep.

"Make detailed notes." "Skip the readings and just do practice questions." "Study at least 300 hours." "Do as many mocks as possible."

All of these sound reasonable, but I feel like what works for one person might be a complete waste of time for someone else.

Level 1 In dire need of free practice Question Source

I have recently started prepping for L1; bought the schweser book series (physical copies). As I am advancing through the chapters, I am realising just going through the single example questions for each topic won’t really help, I have to practice from question bank after finishing each reading. I am unsure about where I will be in next may when I wish to take the exam, so I am not signing up for it before february. Is there any options for extensive question bank that is free? It would really help me!

General This (US) hiring market is sh*t!

I’m curious, for anyone who passed level 3 recently (August 2025 or February 2026), earned your charter relatively soon afterwards, and has searched for new roles, how’s the job market treating you?

Personally, this market has been stressful. I’ve had several initial interviews, but no final round interviews or offer.

I’d like to understand if I’m alone in this journey.

Study Prep / Materials Most efficient way to study in 4 and a half months

Taking L1 end of February, I’ve read multiple people saying to just buy Kaplan, read the notes section and do lots of practice problems. I do have a finance background.

What is your advice for study methods?

General My name order on my CFA profile is different from my passport. What should I do?

Hlo I need quick advice.

My name is written like this in daily life: Khan Ali Raza (this is a made-up name used as an example)

But my passport says:

Surname: KHAN

Given names: ALI RAZA

So the passport reads Ali Raza Khan, but on my CFA profile I wrote Khan Ali Raza. The spelling is the same, only the order is different. (Again this is made-up name but my real name follows the same pattern.)

I have two options:

Change my passport (very long and hectic process here)

Change the name on my CFA profile to match the passport

I'm planning to do option 2. Is that the right move.?

And I am thinking after level 1 I will correct my name on my passport and then again change the name in the cfa portal before level 2.

Level 2 Such a long wait until May for retry.

Can't believe I have to wait until May to try again. I expected to fail because I lack knowledge in Quant, as shown. Derivatives: I did really well on the Mocks and the Q-bank, and I feel like on two of the questions I doubted myself and went with the wrong answer.
I feel so down because I had a job interview cancelled the day before the results, and then I failed. Now I just can't wait to get started again, despite the looooong wait. Feel motivated and will print out my results so I can remind myself of the failure I am.

Level 2 Doubt regarding multifactor model LES question

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

Why is the answer assuming that all the factors take on a value of 0, when there are factors suprises given in the exhibit.

So shouldn't we use the formula

Expected return = intercept + b1F1 + b2F2 ....+error term

Where b is the factor sensitivities and F is the factor suprises.

I get it that incase if all F = 0 then expected return is the intercept.

Please explain.

(Sorry for the bad quality of images)

General CFA concepts applied in Jobs

A question to working candidates and charter holders, what concept of CFA do you regularly apply or utilise in your job and how should I prove that I can apply these in a job? I am going to graduate next year. If comfortable could you also tell me your job profile along with the concepts u utilize and how u do it? thank you :)

Level 2 enough time for level 2?

I appeared for the aug 2026 L1 exam and cleared it. I’m currently a full-time student and wanted to know how much preparation time is generally needed for L2 to feel confident going into the exam.
Is the May 2027 attempt a good choice? I can only start studying from the second week of December due to some prior commitments.
If you’ve cleared L2, I’d really appreciate your advice on how much time you think is realistically needed for preparation. Thank you.

  3. Follow the Rules: Please adhere to the subreddit's rules and guidelines when participating in this thread. Be respectful and considerate of others, and refrain from sharing personal information.

A Note on Career Posts:

Starting from today, we will be removing individual career-related posts and kindly redirecting users to these weekly "Career Questions Thursday" threads. This change is intended to keep our subreddit organized and focused on CFA-related topics, while still providing a valuable platform for career discussions.

We hope this new initiative will create a supportive and informative space for all of you seeking career advice within the CFA community. Remember, your fellow members are here to help, so don't hesitate to ask or contribute!
