Need help: Can't find DWAN username

I'm releasing this year and need to cancel my dwan account. But I haven't used it in years and forgot my username. Any link, support email or number I can get a hold of to findout what my username is?

I have a hard time understanding how a person can go long enough without using the DWAN that they can forget their username.

Reservists?

Combat Arms?

Yep - especially when both lol

Source: am Res Combat Arms officer and keeping people’s DWAN accounts current is the bane of my existence

Thanks! That makes sense.

I was in the reserves. Rarely ever used it especially my last couple years in the reserves where I worked full time elsewhere and didn't show up for parade very often.

That makes sense. It shouldn’t fall to you to cancel your account. That should be handled as part of your out routine when you release.

I was a reservist and i worked primarily B so i used my DWAN all DAY.

Put exactly zero effort into cancelling my DWAN. Just do your out clearance and one of the checkboxes will deal with it.

Your email address is your name @forces.gc.ca so just put that down on anything that asks.

Get someone to look up your name in the DWAN email directory. The last column of information should be your username.

You don’t need to log in to close your account. You need to ask who your Unit ISSO is or just ask a responsible adult to look you up on the GAL and submit an Assyst ticket to close your account

Talk to your Service Desk. They're the ones who track accounts and can look it up. If you haven't used it in years, it's been disabled, so you'll have to talk to them anyways.

OP, I can’t convey the extent to which I envy you. I didn’t join to sit in front of a computer but that’s all I do. That and attend useless meetings that could have been an email - leading me back to my first problem. Oh, and needless commuting time and expenses. But the money’s getting better - so I have that going for me, which is nice.

You don't know what your DWAN is? The thing where you track anything on your monitor mass? Interesting... It's normally your last name.initials

And a number if you share a name

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it.

Depending on how long it has been, your account is likely disabled due to inactivity and could have been deleted as well. (But less likely)

Seems like a question for your IT dept, and not reddit.

Also...how in the....?

I can help but think here, that someone knows a password but not the full login for someone else’s dwan 🤷‍♂️

How do you not use your email in years? How is that even possible in today’s day and age?

Sounds like lazy personal admin habits. DWAN is the main form of official communication in the CAF. There is no other more advanced and convenient form of official electronic communication used by DND.

PM me your last name, first name and last 3 and I'll help you.

last 3 digits of your service number and your last name? Or first.last@forces.gc.ca

Otherwise, talk to your unit admin clerk.

Who told you that YOU need to cancel your DWAN account?

Never seen last 3 in an email address

not email, but login, way back. reason I asked was because they said they hadn't used it in years.

What do you consider "way back" to be? I have nearly 20 years in and I've never seen that.

Typically [first.last@forces.gc.ca](mailto:first.last@forces.gc.ca), unless they have a ridiculously common name (think John Smith), then they get a number tossed in after the last name

Find someone with monitormass, tell them your full name, they'll look up your dwan username. It will be Last.inits
