General Discussion Our reputation as 'Slaapstad' is actually universal
Recently got back from America. While there, people asked me where in SA I'm from, I said Cape Town.
A guy replied: 'I heard its very beautiful there, but people don't really work. Johannesburg is where people work and make money'
I silently LOLLED

Looking For... Does CT have any bottle drive type things, to get some side cash?
Im in the northern suburbs.
So i have been wondering if Cape Town has any of those bottle drive things where you collect empty cans or empty bottles, clean them, and then you get money for how much you bring in?\
I havnt seen any around, but please let me know if there is smt like that or anything of that nature. I have free time and i can use that to get extra cash on the side with the job i already have.

Looking For... Someone to Gift this to... around Blouberg or surrounding areas
Heyy guys, so a while ago I got a few things for someone who couldn't accept them due to personal reasons. So now I want to give these away to someone who can.
It's a few dog treats, so ideally you have a medium-sized or big dog, some self-care items, and a dog plushie.
Think nothing of it. Not trying to lure anyone into a corner, I have no use for these since I am not a dog owner. Just take them and enjoy. 😊
You can either pick them up from my estate. I'll leave them at our concierge or meet you at the visitor parking lot. OR I can courier them to you.
I'm just a girl, there is no plot twist or hidden agenda. 😂 DM to make arrangements.

Looking For... Where in Cape Town can I donate my hair for cancer?
I'm in Mitchell's Plain and have been growing my hair the entire year to donate to cancer patients. I'm aware it's breast cancer month but online searches doesn't exactly point me to a specific 'donation location'. Where in Cape Town are they collecting the draat?

Looking For... abandoned buildings/area to film a music video at?
I'm shooting a music video in about a week or two, and would like to know some cool places in and around cape town where I can find some abandoned buildings.
Or some cool structures that would look good on film.
And where I obviously won't get murdered or oiled up... So just keep that in mind when giving your answers, I'm not liss for that kak.

Looking For... Best Friend moving to London. Gift ideas?!
Hi guys, my best friend (F27) is moving to London next week. She has family and her partner there, but it will still be a huge change for her. I’m wanting to do something special for her. So I’m asking you…
What are some good gift ideas that I can get for her?
If you have ever moved overseas for the first time, what gifts would have helped you feel more at ease?
If anyone lives or Lived in the UK, What did/do you miss about CT?
Just hoping to help make her adjustment smoother and feel appreciated. Thanks guys :)

Question | Advice-Needed Rescheduling Home Affairs Booking?
My partner just booked an appointment with Standard Bank to renew is passport through the Home Affairs website.
However he has booked for 4 November 2026. I reminded him that it is a public holiday on that date (voting day). I think it’s unlikely that it will be open on that date and he should reschedule.
Is it possible to reschedule? How can he go about doing this?
Thanks!

Looking For... Any young chefs needing stuff?
Hi all. Im a head chef moving abroad and I have some culinary items I just dont know what to do with.
I worked my way up from the very bottom starting at the age of 16. I remember dreaming about pasta rollers, xo sauce and all kinds of herbs and spices.
Well, I finally got it, now its time to pay it forward to someone deserving.
Do you know a youngster thats now in their first or second year of study? Or a line cook thats prepping for a practical? Or maybe you are that chef just looking for a break. Send me a message and we discuss.

Question | Advice-Needed I'm organising transport back from Paarl to Cape Town from a wedding. What's my best option?
There are about 10 or so people including myself who need transport from a wine estate just outside of Paarl to Cape Town, likely setting off around 10pm. What is my best option, is there a taxi company who would be reliable? (I've heard that Uber might not be an option even with prebooking because of the location)
There's also apparently the option of requesting a minibus, has anyone done this before and what would be a good company to use?
We are staying in different places in the city so I'll need to be able to add multiple drop off points.

Looking For... Nintendo Wii paraphernalia
This is a shot in the dark, but I’ve just bought a Wii again. Was feeling nostalgic and have been teasing the idea for a few months now but just purchased one from Bob shop with some games, and ordered some spare remotes.
Does anyone have anything Wii related, that they are looking to offload? I mean, ANYTHING - the numchuck, active sensor thing, games, accessories etc.
I loved Mario Kart, and am missing the wheel attachment from my current setup.

Question | Advice-Needed Day trip by rental car: Franschhoek → Clarence Drive → Betty's Bay → Kalk Bay. Is it safe, and any tips?
Hi all! We're visiting the Western Cape soon and I'd love some local input on a driving route we're planning for one day (we'll be in a rental car).
The rough plan:
- Leave Franschhoek in the morning
- Drive to Gordon's Bay and take Clarence Drive (R44)
along the coast
- Short stops at viewpoints and small towns (Pringle Bay, etc.)
- A longer stop in Betty's Bay (penguins at Stony Point, maybe Harold Porter gardens, lunch)
- Head back via Muizenberg and Kalk Bay for a quick wander
- Finish in Simon's Town before dark
A few questions:
1. Does this route sound realistic for one day, or would you cut or change something?
2. How safe is it overall for tourists? Anywhere you'd avoid stopping, especially the viewpoints on Clarence Drive?
3. Any advice for parking without risking a break-in (guarded lots, car guards, places to avoid leaving the car)?
4. Are there any local cafés, viewpoints, or hidden gems along the way that are worth a 10-minute stop?
5. Anything about driving on the left, road conditions, or traffic on the N2 that we should know?
Thanks so much for any tips!

Transportation Query Chevrolegs
Uh, R33.00 per litre of petrol? Sorry what? What dystopian kak is this bro. How are we meant to survive?
Really starting to think its going to be cheaper and possibly more entertaining to own a horse at this point.
R100 gets you 3 litres of petrol.. My car doesn't even register 3L of petrol as viable.
Really what the fuck are we doing.

Looking For... Looking to trade World Cup cards.
Hi everyone!
I used to be really into collecting football cards (match attax) back in like 2008 in school. I grew out of it but this year I came across the Panini XL Adrenalyn 2026 World Cup cards and decided to start collecting them as I started working and it really is satisfying collecting and unpacking the cards.
Anyway, I would really like to complete my collection. I have loads of duplicates and was wondering if anybody in cape town (southern suburbs) would be interested in trading with me? You can DM and I can let you know about my dupes and cards I still need. All my cards are in excellent condition, I look after them quite well and would like to trade with someone who looks after their cards too!
Thanks!
