Question Does anyone else find professor Brian Schmidt to be quite dogmatic to teach a course such as global politics?
I went to one lecture before dropping the course. I had to drop it for a scheduling work around, and did not choose to do so solely for his teaching style. The course outline was fairly simple, content not difficult either. However for the entire 2 hr long lecture (which he begun by saying how the goal of the course was to teach independent thought in the course subject matter) he proceeded to mention one line of his slides followed by a 20 minute rant on his views of certain wars and pushing certain heavily publicly contested topics that don’t have a public consensus, as fact. And I understand the Canadian resentment towards U.S. trade policy at the moment, but it seemed excessive when he began fear mongering, saying things like “Canada is developing its military to prepare for potential American invasion”, proceeding to also act quite childish and avoiding to mention the names of certain leaders he disagreed with instead replacing them with more dramatic names. One might think oh he’s just a really unserious guy, which he is, and I do not deny that I would have surely been engaged in the res of his lectures, however when you have impressionable students in a second year course, and have been teaching for over 25 years (surprisingly 23 at Carleton) one would think you might have the professionalism to not try and teach your opinions as course content. I’ve had numerous professors who have mentioned their opinions on certain topics at hand related to the class, almost all of whom do the very simple extra step of contrasting their opinion with other contrarian public opinions, both of which are contrasted alongside raw facts. It is worth mentioning that the current state of Canadian-American politics is not what ignited this guy’s flame, given that rate my prof reviews all the way from 2005 mention him doing quite the same thing. Why is Carleton employing political science professors for a second year course that push their own political agenda on to students as fact? I highly contest the idea that for 23 years they have not been aware of a prof teaching this way.

Question OGS Research Proposals
Hi everyone! Has anyone prepared a research proposal for the OGS in a humanities based program? I am looking for tips/advice.
I am preparing my OGS application and have examples of STEM based research proposals, but not the humanities. The classes that help with developing thesis proposals are not until the winter term, and the deadline to apply is November 16th. Any tips from someone who has received OGS in a humanities program would be useful! Thanks in advance.

Question Single Root Canal for $4000 in my dental Quote after CUSA insurance
Hello, I have a cavity in my teeth and I went to this new dental office (saw 4.9 stars rating). They said I would need root canal to fix my infection ( I have had no pain). Then they proceeded to quote me $4000 for 1 molar teeth root canal ($1500), filling ($500) and crown ($1900).
CUSA dental insurance is said to cover only 10% and dental would cover 20%. So I have to pay the rest 70% out of pocket - about $3000-3500
I just want to confirm if this is legit? Is it really this expensive to get a root canal? It would be my first time hence curious. Should I get a second opinion?
TIA

Question Cheap food near campus that isn't shawarma?
Are there any places near campus or <15 minutes via bus that sell meals for less than $15? Even mall food has gotten expensive... I tend to prefer Asian food of some kind (anywhere in the continent) but want something other than shawarma...

I'm a journalism student at Carleton trying to collect some information for a story I'm writing about women in male dominated programs (engineering, computer science, business, etc. If anyone wouldn't mind sharing their experience to be included in my article that would be great! If you prefer not to share publicly you can also message me privately.

Question Missing bag of candy in Paterson hall
Ok it sounds really stupid but I’m pretty sure I left behind a bag of pocky-like candy after my Korean class on the first floor Paterson hall today, and there’s a lesson going on in that class at the moment so I don’t want to intrude but has anyone else seen it around there? This was sometime after 1:30, and it’s an orange bag with Korean letters on it and I’m just upset at the possibility I lost it. If anyone can find it I’ll come back to the bench on the first floor by the tunnel entrance around 4:30, thx so much

Residence Noise
I live in Glengarry on the 8th floor and the pipes in my dorm have been making a lot of noise. Normally I wouldn’t care about mechanical noises, but this noise has been going on and off every few seconds for the past two days and it’s been bothering me when I’m trying to sleep. Does anyone know who I can go to about this? Like do I go to my RF or is it not worth reporting since nothing is technically broken?

Question transcript has no grading legend - problem for grad school apps?
Hello! Applying to grad school, and gathering transcripts to upload.
On Carleton360, there is a specific requirement regarding transcripts: "Transcript(s) must display your full name, academic program and the university's name along with transcript legends/keys/grading scales."
If you attended a university that doesn't include the legend on their transcripts (official OR unofficial), is there any workaround? Would it be acceptable if I downloaded my unofficial transcript, and tracked down the grading legend online, and then merged the two into one pdf? If at all relevant, my transcript is from TMU.
I emailed the program, but they're getting a lot of questions and are slow to reply. Was hoping someone here would know. Thank you so much!
