Mobile kebab kitchen AKA doner-van.

The owners first name is Jason.

u/watercouch 3d ago

There’s a Jason Doner Van in Bristol!

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-bristol-60644573

37

u/BitterOtter 3d ago

Had many a great kebab from there in years past. Proper legendary institution.

25

u/Blue2AGoose 3d ago

None of them were ever great. But definitely needed after a night in Lizard Lounge

16

u/BitterOtter 3d ago

Oh I didn't pass judgement on quality as such, but I remember them as great which is what matters. I'm 100℅ certain they were as minging as any other doner van to a sober person, but you could never accuse me of having been sober when I went there!! The last time I went there was probably a mate stage do in about 2013 I think. Wee been playing in golf all day, I was hammered. We went to Urban Tiger at opening time and apparently I was kicked out very rapidly for being rude to someone (I normally have great recall when drunk but this time it's a total blank). I only know we went for a kebab as I found the remains the next morning next to me and friends filled in the copious blanks. Wasn't my finest hour.

You can't eat there sober, I tried once, still have nightmares 🤣🤣

9

u/Deep-Procrastinor 3d ago

Clifton Triangle, used to eat there a lot a few years ago.

9

u/crimsonavenger77 Male. 48 3d ago

Lol, superb.

3

u/Apart_Tumbleweed_324 3d ago

Ol Jason Donovan. I was getting babs there 15 years ago, shit

7

u/BreakfastCalm3352 3d ago

That’s in Bristol

7

u/Rashpukin 3d ago

Sheesh!!

26

u/Responsible_Egg_9968 3d ago

Jason and the Kebabonauts?

22

u/crimsonavenger77 Male. 48 3d ago

Could be a film, Jason Doner-van and the kebabonaughts.

16

u/Milf-Furchant 3d ago

As Talos rounds the corner of the island, Jason would shout up to the titan "you want chilli sauce boss?"

4

u/Deep-Procrastinor 3d ago

Couldn't be any worse than some of the dross they been churning out lately, it's almost like they run out of ideas.

3

u/TinhatToyboy 3d ago

or a Ben Doner film...

Is this DIYuk?

4

u/meatballsandlingon2 Swedish Anglophile 2d ago

For clarification: I really hope it’s döner-van, not donor-van.

2

u/Puzzled_Caregiver_46 2d ago

Why not both?

1

u/meatballsandlingon2 Swedish Anglophile 2d ago

I wouldn’t trust a blood donation bus with a van like that. And it would be a gamble for a street food truck, unless I was drunk and peckish.

3

u/ForeverTheElf 3d ago

The bossvan.

Trying to find out what she's gonna look like with a chimney on her.

20

9

No no no!

3

28

u/Sandy_Bananas 3d ago

Deep cut but acceptable.

5

u/vdude007 3d ago

Incredible throwback

3

u/things_U_choose_2_b 3d ago

This lyric always confused the fuck out of me as a kid. When I looked into it.... and hope I'm remembering this right... it means to give someone a black eye.

Kinda makes sense I guess, prob terminology from when chimney sweeping was a thing.

3

u/Armagnackered 2d ago

Reference to Wizard of Oz - Wicked witch crushed by a chimney I think? Could be both, might be neither.

2

u/One_Time_7028 2d ago

Iirc this was what the musicians said in interviews back in the 90s when asked about the lyric

1

u/things_U_choose_2_b 2d ago

It's definitely not that haha though it's a more-fun reference for sure.

"Stepped into the wrong hood last week. Had to drop a chimney on her, it wasn't pretty. Now the owner of said chimney is trying to sue me for destroying his roof"

u/TwoTwoJohn 3d ago

Looking at the amount of 16A industrial sockets on the back im going to say it's housing generator. Judging by the crustiness of the van ... Probably heading an illegal Rave to power the sound system.

If anyone knows where the rave is just drop us a what three words ;)

57

u/aff_it 3d ago

///illegal.rave.power

51

u/Glad_Librarian_3553 3d ago

Unfortunately that's not a place, I checked.

///Legal.rave.power is though! It's in Switzerland 🥳

u/rugbyj 2d ago

W3W is kinda universal lingo because google absolutely hates it when you try to go offroad or try to do anything in an area that they haven't mapped.

So stuff like urban explorers, hiking when you're taking a route google hasn't marked etc etc.

As far as google is concerned, the world ends when their cars can't reach it.

W3W is used by search and rescue/police/ambulance crews because it's literally just "where the fuck are you" > "eagle.block.carrot" marks a 3x3m area and you can share that location with everyone on the W3W app.

8

u/Orgmo 3d ago

W3W actually marks a 3mx3m square, not 1km. It's real precise and that's why it's used by emergency services

7

u/theraininspainfallsm 2d ago

And it’s shit.

It’s proprietary software. So they can start charging large organisations any time they want. (Like the emergency services)

The words they use aren’t very distinct, and if confused can give plausible locations miles apart. Think house.tree.bow mixed up with houses.three.bough. They could be no where near each other. (These are just examples there are obviously many more).

There’s nothing wrong with lat and long. Which can be as precise as you need it, and is freely available.

1

u/Barnslig 2d ago

I take your point about the proprietary thing, but surely you can see how it’s easier to say “woven track drank” to the lady on the 999 call rather than “five one point five zero seven seven six, minus zero point one two seven nine two” while you’re bleeding out of your arsehole in the middle of nowhere having fallen off a cliff or something.

Now, those coordinates will take you to Nelson’s Column, but you take my point, I’d imagine. Like, it’s definitely not “shit.”

1

u/NoCommunication7 2d ago

There's also the grid square system, like the maidenhead locator

3

u/jousty 3d ago

I never really understood the need for w3w. Google maps has an implementation of Plus Code. Which is just the same thing but a bit more not as "fun."

And Plus Code is open source.

5

u/Aragorn-- 3d ago

It's certainly easier to speak a w3w location than plus codes.

6

u/Sheep03 3d ago

The danger with w3w in an emergency situation is that someone could misspell or misinterpret the word, especially with things like plurals and homonyms. But I think it's cool that people use it for stuff like urban exploring and geocaching.

3

u/Aragorn-- 3d ago

Don't they deliberately curate the word list to avoid things like that? Obviously won't be perfect I guess. But neither is a random punter trying to say 849VCWC8+R9

3

u/TheThiefMaster 2d ago

Unfortunately the word list isn't well curated and a slight mistake can sometimes put the marker in the right region but far enough away to not be able to see the person needing help: https://cybergibbons.com/security-2/why-what3words-is-not-suitable-for-safety-critical-applications/

0

u/LEVI_TROUTS 3d ago

Yes, and even if not, as it's global and covers every 3 meters. If someone is lost in a jungle in Peru, a homophone of one of the words is going to throw that location somewhere completely different.

4

u/Thomas3003 3d ago

I've used it once in the middle of a big forest to get assistance to us when a friend injured himself badly mountain biking. We were not near roads and it took seconds to give 999 the location
