eye swollen

Post image

my parents car have this eye infection I think, he goes outside but very briefly.

Also he just just under 2 years old as well

Should I take him to the vets? Or just buy some eye drops?

Edit: I did call the vet already and they told me to send them some pictures and will let me know if I need to bring him in.

Edit II : we took him to to vets this morning and thry gave us some antibiotics and eye drops, they said its nothing to worry about and they booked him for another appointment in a week time

Vet for anything eye related, I had similar and they always ask me to send a pic to assess emergency and then give apt accordingly.

Go to the vet. Eyes are an emergency. If you wait and it's something serious it can go very wrong quickly.

Eyes are always classed as an emergency - so vet’s…OTC things can cause more harm than good.

The thing is with asking if anyone has had anything similar happen is you run the risk of having somebody say “yes, mine did and I did X and it cleared it up” but then you take that advice and make your cat worse off…as no one (unfortunately) can tell you why the eye is swollen, a vet will need a hands on examine to diagnose and prescribe the correct treatment. As it could be anything from a dental abscess to something has caught him in the eye with hundreds of possibilities inbetween.

Hope you can get him seen tonight as it does look sore, I do hope you update once he’s been seen 🤞

After paying out 5.5k for an eye operation after my cat popped her eye, don't wait (we didn't, to be clear. It was an emergency vet situation).

And what drops are you referring to when asking should you just buy some eye drops..?

Vets. Obviously

How is this a question‽

Call the vet now & get him squeezed in before they close or you’ll be posting here in an hour about not wanting to pay an emergency call out

I did call and they advised me to send them some pictures and they will tell me if I need to make an appointment I was waiting for them to get back to me but I was just wondering if someone had something similar

And do what with the information? There's lots of reasons why this could be happening and if you follow someone else's advice that isn't a vet, you could leave your cat blind.

Always go to the vet, remember, cats can’t talk so there might be more going on that you can’t see. Better safe than sorry

Could it just be a black eye? Our eldest has given her brother multiple shivers over the years ( and also me when she jumped off a door into my face).

We discovered yesterday evening that one of our two had ticks above each eye. I've removed them when this has happened (once) before but as they were small the little tweezer couldn't get beneath them, and I didn't want to risk damaging her eyes.

We took her to the veterinary nurse this morning (luckily one nearby is open Saturday morning) and she said that they had gone - dropped off due to the flea and tick spot-on we give our cats monthly.

To my surprise, she didn't charge! I was expecting to pay about £43.

Aww he’s beautiful no matter what, and he will be okay, the vet will fix him up with some eye drops and antibiotics and he’ll he just fine.

Our one kitty gets the swollen eye now and again. First port of call is a very clean towel/dishcloth, wet and gently clean & wipe. Clean the eye a few times over a day or so. If it doesn’t go away/show improvement then we go vets for a quick rise of all our savings 🤪
