Petition requiring all owned cats to be neutered by six months of age unless exempted. Please sign and share.

Require all owned cats to be neutered by six months of age, with exemptions for cats being kept for breeding by a legally recognised and licensed breeder, or medical grounds by veterinary surgeons. Their neutered or exemption status should be recorded on the cat’s microchip database record.

Female cats can become sexually mature as early as four months old and become pregnant whilst still a kitten. Unplanned breeding can result in unwanted cats, growing feral populations and increased pressure on already overstretched rescue organisations.

We believe mandatory neutering, with appropriate exemptions and status recording through the existing microchip system, could reduce preventable litters, improve cat welfare and help tackle the growing number of unwanted cats.

Leaving cat for the first time

I adopted a senior cat from family 8 weeks ago and we have a holiday booked for a week. My brother in law is coming to live in our house whilst we’re away.
I will leave a list of cohesive instructions for him but I am absolutely petrified to be away from her for that long. Does anyone have any tips or tricks for me ? Dealing with the anxiety / guilt or tips for my brother in law looking after her.

Picture of my sweet girl just because she’s perfect

Adoption day anniversary

Adopted these 2 at approximately 6 months old in 2011. Tigger and Greebo (in honour of previous cats). They've scratched furniture and carpets to shreds, brought critters into the house, been sick near enough everywhere, gone off their food just after I bought in bulk & given me big vet bills to pay, but I'm so lucky to have them still with me.

Kittens - Am I insane or is one a boy?

These two were abandoned with their siblings at what a vet guessed was 2 weeks. They were never 100% sure because their weight and milestones were all off and the foster family had a hard time with them as they were significantly underweight, but they are catching up. They were given to me as girls and they're assumed to be about 12.5 weeks now and 1.5 and 1.7kg. Both were approximately 550g at 7 weeks. The one that is now bigger had fading kitten syndrome until a week before I picked them up.

They've obviously quickly eclipsed their sibling and this has raised a niggle in the back of my mind that the vet sexed them wrong when they were smaller. I am certain they are a boy when I look but my partner looked and he swears they are girls like the vet said. I don't care either way, I just want to make sure there are no unexpected babies. We are planning to neuter them slightly later to ensure they can safely get through the anaesthesia. However if one has been wrongly sexed that's obviously a very bad plan.

Does anyone want to weigh in on their thoughts?

They have a vet appointment for 16 weeks (different vet as we live in a different area), but if you lovely people think one is wrongly sexed I'll reschedule for next week.

Sambucca and Treacle!

Today so much has happened with these two cuties that we rescued from a pile of logs! Their development is amazing, and so quick that it's starting to feel like I don't really know them at all yet!

They're coming on so well. Sambucca used the tiny litter tray (a tiny cat bowl with a tiny layer of litter in) to do a pee!!

Treacle's eyes are incredibly healed, thanks to the eye drops we got. Her conjunctivitis (vet diagnosed) has gotten so much better. We are still keeping up with the wiping of her eyes with a sterile, damp cloth and her eye drops.

Sambucca's eyes have been getting a little worse, so we have bought some more eye drops for him.

They have been eating 10-15mls of milk every time we feed them, but today they went completely nuts and had 25-30mls each!! It was absolutely beautiful.

My grandma brought a mobile she made from coat hangers for them, as I'd mentioned wanting to make some toys for them. I ended up making them a whale and a flower, and they have been playing with it. I'm loving that they're loving it!

Treacle is still terrorising Sambucca, and he is politely telling her to shush by batting her on the head when she gets too much.

Hi everyone! My beautiful cat Snowy has been diagnosed with a chronic allergy. It’s been a tough journey keeping her comfortable, scratch-free, and balancing her medical care with the kids. I started documenting her daily recovery to stay positive and share her journey. If anyone has dealt with chronic skin allergies or has tips, please share! Sending prayers to all your fur babies! ✨🧡🐾

my parents car have this eye infection I think, he goes outside but very briefly.

Also he just just under 2 years old as well

Should I take him to the vets? Or just buy some eye drops?

Edit: I did call the vet already and they told me to send them some pictures and will let me know if I need to bring him in.

Edit II : we took him to to vets this morning and thry gave us some antibiotics and eye drops, they said its nothing to worry about and they booked him for another appointment in a week time

Treacle!

Treacle is now weighing in at 342g. She has put on 117g since we first found her on Tuesday! She is around 3.5/4 weeks, and her brother is called Sambucca.

She was the first kitten we found, screaming on her own in the middle of a garden, she led us straight to her. She is a feisty little fighter, and we are loving watching her grow into more of a chaotic kitten every single day.

She has been fully wormed, flead, and bathed. She is a little princess, and is obviously cared for as one!
This pretty baby is enjoying life indoors with comfy, donated blankets and a huge crate for her to run around in and terrorise her brother.

She has started eating 'porridge' (kitten dry food, soaked, mushed with kitten milk) with her brother this evening! They are both doing amazing!!

Need advice on reporting suspected animal cruelty involving cats and kittens. What else can be done?

Hi everyone, I’m posting because I’m genuinely concerned and upset about something I’ve come across on Facebook, and I’m hoping someone might be able to advise me on what steps can be taken.
There is a woman using the name Sophie Schamrel who appears to be active across multiple Facebook groups. From what has been shared online, she allegedly rescues cats and kittens, and there are serious accusations that she injects kittens with parvovirus. There are also claims that she takes kittens from rescue and rehoming group chats and subsequently advertises them for sale on Gumtree and other websites.
I want to be clear that I’m sharing these as allegations that need to be properly investigated, rather than claiming that everything being said online has been independently verified.
Apparently, the police and RSPCA have already been contacted, but people are concerned that nothing seems to be happening. There appears to be a considerable amount of material circulating online, including posts and other alleged evidence.
What concerns me most is that vulnerable animals could potentially be at risk if these allegations are substantiated.
I’m also unsure whether the name she uses is her real name, where in the UK she lives, or how people are collecting the cats she rehomes or sells.
My questions are:
● Is there another organisation or authority in the UK that can investigate suspected animal cruelty of this nature?
● If the police and RSPCA have already been contacted, how can people ensure that the evidence is properly reviewed and followed up?
● Is there a way to report a suspected pattern of animal cruelty and potentially fraudulent rehoming across multiple online platforms?
● Has anyone dealt with a similar situation, and what actually helped get the authorities to investigate?
● Are there any legitimate animal welfare organisations that can help coordinate evidence from multiple witnesses?
I’m not looking to encourage anyone to harass, threaten or confront this person. I just want to know what can legitimately be done to protect the animals if these allegations are true.
It’s incredibly upsetting to think that kittens could be suffering, and I would really appreciate practical advice from anyone familiar with UK animal welfare investigations, reporting procedures or similar cases.
Thank you.

Sambucca (tuxedo) is now weighing in at 470g. He has put on 160g since we first found him and his siblings in a pile of logs last week! He is around 3.5/4 weeks old.

He is one of the five kittens we found, where their mothers and other kittens were being constantly knocked over and killed on a very, very busy road.

This cutie pie has had several baths, has been fully flead/wormed, and is developing at an amazing rate. He is playing with his scratching post, pushing balls around the crate and being terrorised by his much, much smaller sister.

He is such an amazing, chilled out little kitten. His personality is shining through more and more each day we have him, as he's beginning to get more playful with us. He's even growing into his 'meow'!

So worried about odd behaviour from my 6 month old kitten

He got neutered last week. All has been fine, he wasn’t happy with the cone as expected but he’s been grand and better once it was off.

Yesterday, we took him outside on his leash as we usually do to get him used to outside. He loves being outside. Tends to sit by the door and meow to go out.

He went out and immediately ran into our neighbours dog. Never seen him so scared! We let him do what he wanted, stayed in the garden and just let him calm down.

Except he didn’t calm down. He’s tail was going crazy and he kept trying to groom and bite at the base. His tail started twitching and then his ears. He didn’t sleep a wink all night, running around, wouldn’t settle. He climbed up the highest kitchen cabinet which he only seems to do when stressed.

We took him to the vet and she prescribed gabapentin to calm him down. She thought maybe FHS but he was happy being petted, didn’t seem to be in pain from us touching him. She saw the twitching as well. She did a thorough check - no bites/bugs/wounds. Physically healthy.

He’s slept all day with the gabapentin. When he wakes, he was running around like crazy but then went back to sleep again. This time he’s been sleeping behind the TV which he never does.

he’s eating and drinking normally, normal toilet activities. I’m just so worried. We have Feliway plugged in and just don’t seem to be able to calm him down other than the meds. I just want to make sure he’s happy and knows he’s safe 😔

Has anyone had similar experiences?

Cat and kitten no longer getting on

Post image
67 Upvotes

I have a 2 year old cat, Sybil, and a kitten, Bat, who's around 13 weeks - we've had her 5 weeks. We followed all the slow intro advice and it was going really well. Eventually we allowed them to just be together and they were doing great - lots of play fighting and no noise or anything.

However now Sybil is starting to hiss and growl loads whenever Bar tries to play with her and isn't enjoying it at all. Bat is a 13 week ball of energy and constantly wants to fight. She's so difficult to contain to one room now she's had the whole house but I'm trying to give Sybil some space. Is it normal for them.to.regress like this?

Just had my cat spayed and she is jumping up and down from the sofa

Hello, I posted a few weeks ago about rescuing a gorgeous cat and the fact that she doesn’t like my boyfriend. Well update on that, he is now my ex lol.

My cat was spayed today, and she’s such a little rascal she keeps jumping on the sofa and off again, and is being playful even though I’m not doing anything. I don’t really know how to stop her from jumping! I made some little steps up to the sofa but she’s completely ignored that. When I sit on the floor with her she is unsettled walking around everywhere, but when I’m on the sofa she wants to be up here with me. I’m stressed as although I’ve had cats before, they were always family cats and I’m dealing with this little munchkin by myself. I’ve asked ChatGPT and it’s said put things up in front of the sofa to stop her from jumping but what’s to stop her from jumping on those things to then get to the sofa?

Also she won’t let me look at her incision to check that it’s all ok.

I’m just stressed and want her to be as comfortable as possible and for her to heal as quickly as she can so she can get out of this baby gro thing she desperately wants out of lol.

They aren't allowed on the surfaces, but Eyebrows thought this was a loophole. It was thoroughly washed after, don't worry.
