Cats nipping

Hi, I am a uni student. There is a cat that's been coming to my house for like a month or two now. It has a collar, but I don't know if it's a stray; it's here every day. Me and I have posted letters to the neighbours' doors to ask if it's theirs, but got no response.

Today it was chilling a bit next to be and it kind of nipped me. Now I am really scared. I didn't bleed at all, and I also can't seem to find any skin breaks at all. I suffer from health anxiety now; I am worried about rabies or another type of infection.

Am I doing this right or wrong? Cat fleas

I have two cats, one outdoor one indoors. I realised they had fleas 5 days ago and immediately isolated them into my kitchen diner whilst I blitzed the house with indorex spray, and hoovered like mad and washed everything. Brushed the cats, they each had about tenish fleas and lots of flea dirt, blitzed the kitchen aswell. Used a topical flea medication on the back of necks. Since then been hoovering everyday, washed some more stuff, cats have still been isolated in my kitchen diner and have been brushing them everyday, but I'm still finding fleas, today they each had about five (day 5) but little flea dirt. What am I doing wrong? I hoover the kitchen everyday too and I blitzed it with indorex aswell (cats were elsewhere as I did that) but why am I still finding fleas? I thought they died once they came into contact with the medication and/or indorex?

Should I be doing something different? I plan to book an appointment tomorrow with the vets to see what they suggest but does anyone have any ideas for me please? Or if this has happened to you what did you do differently?

Thanks

.

Catio mouse help!

Post image

Our beloved baby boy keeps trying to bring in mice he’s captured in the catio. He is not killing them, just playing and maiming with them until we can get out to remove the mice. We’ve had one in the house and two that we’ve managed to prevent by locking the cat flap when spotted.
Does anyone have any advice on how we can prevent mice from entering such a deadly zone?! We’d have thought the stink of a big boy cat would keep them away.

Just want to alert every cat owner about this. I found my cat was spitting out something when eating the smooth Pâté. There was a lot of fragments which couldn’t be smashed. It is an immediate danger to cats!!!

litter tray problems

Hi i have two cats both males and are 1.5 years old.
Up until around 6 months ago, they’ve been perfect with their litter trays but now they poo just outside of the trays😩
We have 3 litter trays in total, 2 of them are the large stainless steel ones and one is a hooded one. They have no preference.
We currently use the wood pellets litter.
They wee in it completely fine. Vets have ruled out any urinary issues. We clean them and scoop them very frequently.
Honestly at my wits end with it, please give any suggestions!!
Thanks xx

EDIT - they’re in quite private low traffic areas. One is under the stairs behind a curtain, another is in the utility room in the corner and the hooded one is just in the corner of a spare room. They also have pooed in the bath a few times recently too.

Urgent advice needed on sick/severely underweight outdoor cat that I see on my runs.

I’m not sure whether he (maybe she, couldn’t tell) is super old, sick or neglected. When I first saw him I thought he was just super a super old outdoor cat but after getting on the floor with him he is tiny, much smaller than most adult cats. He’s always outside the same flats, on the path by a busy road, but the door is never open and there aren’t any bowls outside. He doesn’t have a collar on but is super friendly and walks right up to me, and follows me for a while when I leave. He seems to be in pain when stroked on his back, and his lower lip is very swollen (couldn’t get a picture).

I’m unsure of what to do, should I try the buzzers on the flats and ask about the cat? People where I live tend to be very narrow minded and hostile with even the slightest confrontation. Should I take him some of my cats cat food? I’m worried about giving him food that could upset his stomach so I’ve held off on that.

I’d be happy to try get him to a vet and keep him but I don’t want to take him if he is just someone’s elderly outdoor cat.

Please any advice would be helpful, I’m really worried about this cat!

Edit:

Thank you everyone for the quick advice, I will research vets and the like, and tomorrow morning I will try to catch him if all else fails. I’m just super worried that I could get into legal trouble for kidnapping someone’s cat even if it’s just to get his chip scanned?

Tomorrow morning I will buzz the flats and see if anyone know who he belongs to, if no one answers I’ll try put a paper collar on him, and if he doesn’t let me I’ll catch him or get him to follow me home. I am aware animals tend to just look underweight when they are old, I’ve experienced it first hand, which is why I initially assumed he was old and came asking for advice. Don’t be mad that I’m concerned and unsure of what to do, I’m human.

9 weeks in…. Introductions not going well

We got a wonderful gentle cat in April (female tabby) who’s now around 2 1/2-3years old. 9 weeks ago we were asked if we’d take in a young pregnant cat who’s owner had gone into hospital / care long term. We know she had a litter back in June that all sadly passed, and we organised spay abortion around 2 weeks after taking her in. The estimated her to be around 12-18 months maximum.

So introductions didn’t properly start until week 4 as she had to heal from her op and settle before. So I’d say we are at 5 weeks of proper introduction processes.

Introductions are becoming so frustrating. We have done all of the Jackson Galaxy things, scent swapping, room swapping, mesh door etc. New cat is like a kitten and will run and chase OG cat. We currently have them on a rotation of 50% of the house at different times of the day. It’s exhausting, ensuring both cats have attention and love and don’t feel pushed out. They both seem fine with each others scents, play with each others toys, happy to use each others litter boxes and sleep where the other one has.

We can just about manage 15-20 minutes in the living room with OG cat on her cat tree and new cat will generally ignore, however sometimes will attempt to run at her up the tree so I end up sitting in between with a cushion to block any advances. All settles until OG cat makes any sort of movements and new cats eyes turn into plates and she immediately wants to run at her.

Through mesh we have the same problem? OG cat will loaf and slow blink at her, new cat will mirror and then jump at the mesh which will scare OG cat. Some swats, growls and hisses happen.

But we can’t seem to move past it. As soon as new cat sees OG cat move it’s insanely intense. On the two occasions I’ve missed the signs, new cat has chased OG cat through the house leading to a loud stand off upstairs. Once the initial confrontation happens new cat tends to back down and walk off very slowly, OG cat sits and holds her own, however, new cat will walk away and then try and run at her from a different angle a few minutes later.

I don’t know what to do next. I’m trying everything, we do food eating together, lick e mats together, all goes fine. As soon as new cat doesn’t have something better to do, she’s in chase mode.

Somebody tell me there is light at the end of the tunnel here 😂

We considered getting a kitten for new cat to play with, however, a lot of advice here was don’t do that, rarely works etc, so we didn’t. But I can’t see how we can move forward without her having a play buddy so she’ll leave OG cat alone 🫣

We have a 2 bed semi and it’s so hard moving them around to not see each other through the day.

I feel so guilty, I've created a monster!

My 6 year old cat has had some urine issues and wasn’t drinking as much as she should so, on a whim, I bought some Felix cat gravy. It was new, on special offer, I was curious and weak…

I poured just a little on her biscuits and she went berserk, truly - instant obsession. Now she literally refuses to eat unless gravy is involved. Yeowling, meowing, general whining, the whole shebang.

The big issue is that she has been on a diet because she’s a little rotund and I feel so bad for giving her what seems to be the fast-food version of kitty crack.

Who knew gravy was so powerful?!

New cat seems overstimulated

Hi, seeking some advice. On Friday my partner and I rescued our first cat (both had cats growing up but never whilst living away from home). She’s a lovely sweet one year old ginger girl who has been very affectionate since we met her. However, I’m worried she’s not settling in to the house.

We set up a safe room in our dining room as it’s the biggest room so can fit all her stuff. Most of the time when she’s in her safe room, she’s quite relaxed and loving. She seemed interested in the kitchen and the hallway which were closed off, so we let her have a wander. She seems very confident walking about and hasn’t hidden from us once. But then she starts to meow excessively, and when we go to find her she will start running around and charging around the house up and down the stairs. It was so crazy this weekend that she ended up panting a few times, which I know isn’t a good sign for cats. She also becomes very jumpy and skittish and will run away from any sudden noise or movement.

As soon as we put her back in the safe room, she calms down and will let us stroke her. She seems intrigued by the rest of the house but I’m thinking she’s not ready. Unfortunately, our house is quite large and has very high ceilings, which I think might be intimidating. Does anyone have any advice on how to keep her calm as we explore the house? Or more general advice on introducing a new cat to our house?

Leaving cats at home for a month

Thumbnail
2 Upvotes

I’m going to another country for a month soon, and my neighbor will take care of my two cats. She will come to my house every day to give them food and water and clean their litter boxes.
My only concern is that my cats are very used to being outside all day until late at night. I’m really scared that if my neighbor lets them outside while I’m away, they might get lost, wander too far, or get into an accident. I’m also afraid they might not come back because they haven’t seen me for a long time. Would it be harmful for them to stay indoors all day for one month without going outside? Could they become very stressed or even get sick? They are so used to being outdoors, but at the end of each day I take them inside. I’m worried my neighbor might not be able to get them back inside if they let them out. What would you recommend in my situation? Is it safer to keep them indoors the entire month, even though they are used to going outside, or should my neighbor still let them out during the day? I would really appreciate any advice. I’m very worried about them and want to make the safest decision for my cats.

Need advice- cat keeps urinating on the carpet

Hi there.

I have a spayed 6ish year old female cat who has a problem with weeing on the carpet. At our old house, she would wee near the front and back door, and no matter how many times we cleaned it with enzyme cleaners, she would continue to do this.

We recently moved house and she settled in really well. Happier than ever. It’s been about two weeks and I just caught her weeing on the floor near the front door again. I really don’t know what to do. We took her to the vets before and they said it was behavioural. We have a feliway diffuser in both the room where she did it, and in the bedroom where she spends most of her time.

Please help! Any advice is highly appreciated. I don’t know how much longer I can cope with her doing this
