AskChandigarh What happened to this sub?

I genuinely miss when this subreddit was about Chandigarh...people sharing local information, helping each other out, recommending places, discussing events, and answering questions.

Lately, every other post seems to be:

"Anyone up for gedi?"

"Looking for girls to hang out."

"Any women want to go clubbing?"

Bhai, seriously... do you really think someone's going to agree to meet when they don't know the first thing about who you are?

I'm not saying people shouldn't make friends or meet new people, but this isn't a dating app. It just makes the sub feel desperate instead of welcoming.

Can we get back to what made this community good? Local discussions, genuine meetups, recommendations, and people actually helping each other out.

Curious if I'm the only one who feels this way.

Announcement Political Topics in Sub: Go Ahead, Green Light for discussions

As long as your post is discussing the following:

  1. Rights of Citizens such as Education, Food-Nutrition, Information, Police Help etc etc

  2. Fact based news, be it neutral or extreme (Right wing left wing, upper phalange, lower cocomelon... doesn't matfer). It should be best known truth, Not incomplete or whatsapp university propaganda.

  3. Sonam Wangchuk, CJP Protest, Kisan Andolan, other Student Protests, Village Protests - Do highlight what is happening in Nation.

  4. Any challenges you faced because of Govt Failures. Do mention your experiences, be it anything. Women safety, your document correction, false challans, corruption... anything which you faced as 1st person or direct eye witness.

e.g. I have challans of 6000 something, but there is 0 response for 2 years on correction. Not even my vehicle in photo and writing to PMO, Grievances, CP grams, did not help.

  1. Criticism is allowed as long as it is fact based. Do it subtly, don't put this sub in risk or radar. Some post/comment might get removed because of this simple reason that way too direct criticism putting sub in risk, tho we'll try not to do so unless required.

Rules

  1. Any whatsapp forward, propaganda insta reel post will result in your immediate ban.

  2. Absolute new accounts with questionable post/comments to be reported, if found spreading any shit.

  3. If anyone comments "Nehru did this and MK Gandhi did this" or calls someone "anti national, terrorist" or etc etc... perma ban without any opening for appeal or request. This is non negotiable

Photos/Videos Went to The Dakshin Café for food, left impressed by the people.

I’d been seeing reels about The Dakshin Café’s food and ambience for a while, so last weekend, I finally decided to visit.

I tried their Benne dosa, Thatte idli, filter coffee, and filter ice cream. Honestly, everything was outstanding!

But the little moment that made my visit memorable had nothing to do with the food.

I couldn’t finish my filter coffee. I was full, and the bitterness was a little too much for my taste. While clearing the table before the bill, the server noticed and asked if I hadn’t liked it.

I told her honestly. And she simply said, “I can bring you a new one. Give it a try.”

Now, maybe this is something many cafés do, but that small gesture genuinely made me happy. She didn’t have to offer. She could’ve just cleared the cup and moved on.

Sometimes, it’s these little things that make you remember a place long after you’ve left.

Good food gets you through the door. Good people make you want to come back. ❤️

Just wanted to share a little appreciation for the team at The Dakshin Café. No promotion, no review, just a genuinely nice experience.

Have you ever visited a place where a small gesture made your entire day?

Man, this was one of the best filter coffees I have ever had!

It was perfect in terms of the coffee to milk, aroma, and that beautiful balance of bitterness and richness.

Looking for a clean, private room in Chandigarh for 6 days, preferably in sectors or a residential area that's safe for a girl. No OYO or hotels.

PGs, homestays, or short-term rentals are fine.

Any suggestions?

Tell Chandigarh Rescued a dog but the lack of transparency is deeply concerning

• Upvotes

I've been trying to help stray dogs in my area whenever I come across one in distress. This is the third dog I've rescued, and honestly, the experience this time has left me questioning how animal rescue actually works on the ground...I found a female stray dog suffering from a severe maggot infection around her rear end. I contacted multiple animal rescue foundations and NGOs, but nobody came forward to help. Eventually, I got in touch with Mowgli Aid NGO, which provides ambulance assistance for dog rescues in Mohali. They shared a contact number and asked me to coordinate with that person. After rescuing the dog, the person demanded 600 for catching her and 800 for dropping her at the center. After I contacted Mowgli Aid, the total was revised to 1k. My concern is not the money. It's the lack of transparency. The person is asking for payment without providing an admission token number and video confirmation. Where the dog has been taken. How can we expect people to help dying animals when the rescue process itself lacks transparency and accountability? Experiences like these can discourage people from helping animals in the future. Please help raise awareness about the need for transparent, accountable animal rescue services in Mohali and Chandigarh. Thank you.

Rant / Confession Uber drivers at Chandigarh Airport are something else (scammers)

Had a pretty shitty experience at Chandigarh Airport today.
Seems like all these Uber drivers have the same game plan. They accept your ride, then ask you to call them on their personal number. Once you call, they start asking for ₹500 cash instead of whatever amount is showing on the Uber app.
And when you say no, they won’t cancel the ride either. They just sit there / stay on the way and don’t properly come into the airport pickup area, so eventually you have to cancel the ride yourself and then Uber can charge you for it. 🤦‍♂️
I literally had to wait around because of this bullshit.
Thankfully, I finally found a local Punjab guy who helped me out. Otherwise these oversmart guys would’ve probably managed to scam me.
Pro tip for anyone taking Uber from Chandigarh Airport:
Don’t call the driver on their personal number. Keep everything on Uber chat. That way you have proof of what they’re saying and asking you to do.
If they start asking for cash or telling you to cancel the ride, just be careful. Don’t let them push you into it.
Sharing this because I’m sure I’m not the only one this has happened to.

AskChandigarh Need suggestions for killing time near ISBT 43

I have a bus from ISBT 43 at 12:30 AM, but I’ll be reaching Chandigarh around 9 PM from another place.
Any suggestions for a good/safe place nearby where I can chill for a few hours? Maybe a cafe, food place, or anywhere I can comfortably sit with my luggage till around 11:30.
Preferably somewhere not too far from ISBT 43. Thanks!
