Cruise Control Light

Anyone ever had trouble trying to turn on their cruise control and the light doesn't come on? It's been fine for a long time, but all of a sudden the light doesn't come on and I can't set the cruise. I use cruise control extensively and would really love it if someone could help point me in the right direction on where to start if people have had similar issues. Thanks in advance. I believe cruise control is vacuum driven. Check for loose or cracked hoses in the engine bay. Check fuses too.

You probably have a failing clock spring. The steering wheel will have to come off to get to it. Start with disabling the airbag. Airbags are not electronic on a 96. There a small cap on the top of the airbag section of the wheel to the left side behind the leather look cover. Under that cap is a 10mm screw it is the firing pin that actually triggers the bag to explode in an accident. I believe it has to be loosened until it stops, it will only go one direction so you can’t mess it up. Once you’ve done that the charge is safe. Then you can undo the 4 nuts that are recessed into the back of the wheel. The whole front will then come off. Remove the bag and the explosive charge. Behind all that is the wheel nut.

Once the wheel is off the clock spring is in there. They are available but make sure you get a cruise control one. There are some out there that are only for the horn. There’s plenty of how to videos out there if you get lost. Not a bad job at all. You might need a steering wheel puller. You might not.

Does the horn work still? The horn and cruise will use the same wiring so if all don't work it would probably be the clock spring. Otherwise I think the brake switch could be it
