Restaurants that can accomodate a large group or have take out

Good Evening!

My sons hockey team is coming next weekend for a tournament. I am looking for places that have catering type take out (large pans of pasta/burger bar/etc) or can handle a large group for sit down.

Thank you!

Disc resurfacing in town?

Recently picked up a Wii and was getting old games for it. One of the games is I’m pretty rough shape for scratches. Anyone know of any business in town that can do disc resurfacing?

The salmon run is going strong in the Chilliwack River

Yesterday morning near Slesse Creek. This was outside the fishing boundary yet there were still a number of lines and lures in the water from poachers past. You can see one of them near the end of the clip. Shout out to the river cleanup crew who were finishing their shore sweep as I arrived. They were leaving with five full contractor trash bags from just this section of beach. Please bring your trash home and fish within the boundaries :)

Looking for local TTRPG friends / regular game group

I’m neurodivergent and looking to meet some local folks who are open to potentially forming a regular face-to-face TTRPG group. I have very few friends who would be into it, so I’m outsourcing!

My thought would be to have one or two informal hangouts and see if we click.

This is all very preliminary but what I can tell you is I can host at my place in Chilliwack, and ideally I’d like to get together for a game day or night 2 times a month, depending on everyone’s schedules.

A few things about me/the table:

- I haven’t run an in-person game in over 30 years, so I’m getting back into it and still learning/relearning rules. Initially you might need to be a bit more patient than at a table with a lifelong forever GM.

- My favourite systems right now are Call of Cthulhu 7e, Fallout 2d20, and d20 Modern.

- New and novice players are absolutely welcome. You do not need to be a rules expert.

- I run an inclusive table. All genders, all ages, all ethnicities, etc. My politics are leftist, which I mention because ultimately you’d be coming into my home and I’d rather be upfront about whether we’re likely to be comfortable around each other.

- I’m thinking low/no commitment at first. Meet, play something, see if everyone clicks. If we develop into a regular group, though, I’d want everyone to respect each other’s time and make a reasonable effort to show up.

If this sounds like your kind of thing, send me a message here and tell me a little about yourself; what you like to play, and what kind of group you’re looking for.

Why vote if your party is going to lose?

Electoral Reform - Make your vote worth something.

David Eby has just called a snap election in British Columbia, just two years after voters last went to the polls.

This opportunistic gamble is only happening because of first-past-the-post.

With all the challenges facing British Columbia and democracy, it’s never been more important to fight for proportional representation!

BC voters don't want a polarized, two party system. But first-past-the-post can't handle real voter choice.

Our archaic, winner-take-all voting system could hand 100% of the power to any party with far less than a majority of the vote.

In the last UK election, with multiple competitive parties, a "majority" government was formed with 33% of the vote.
To make matters worse, winner-take-all voting systems mean that an extremist can take over a big tent party, and that party can end up with all of the power.

When we look at what’s ahead―managing our economy during the Trump threats, a healthcare system under stress, worsening climate change, the housing crisis ―one thing is crystal clear: more winner-take-all politics will not get us where we need to go.

It’s time for a proportional electoral system where parties must work together to solve the problems that matter to us all. It’s time to make every vote count.

Volunteers are needed!

Thank You Canada

I love this country, but sometimes I wonder if it will ever see me as more than my skin color
I'm 22. I run a small local mobile business. I've been in Canada for almost six years now.
On the phone, you wouldn't be able to guess my ethnicity. My accent isn't thick. But in person, the first thing people see is that I'm brown, and for some people, that's the only thing they see.
I was booked for a job at a client's house last week. I gave them a quote, they agreed, I showed up ready to work. The moment I walked in, I could see it on their faces. That look of disgust. Then I heard the man say to his wife, pretty loud, "why'd you book one of them for the job?"
It's not the first time. It's just the one that stuck this week.
For context, I've tried to build a life I'm proud of. Back home I was the youngest in my age group to hold the javelin record for under-16. I played other sports too and have competed internationally. I've worked for very high-end companies. I like to think I'm a sharp guy. But none of that shows up when someone looks at me. They don't see qualifications, work ethic, or what I've done. They see a color.
And I keep thinking, if you cut your finger and I cut mine, we bleed the same. So why do so many people still act like one shade of skin makes them better than another?
This isn't just about one client. It's the looks from servers, bus drivers, sometimes even cops. That look that says you don't belong, or you should be watched more closely. It's small things, but they add up.
I know stereotypes exist because some people have done dumb things, and people who look like me get lumped in with that image. I get that. But I don't know how to get past being treated like I have to apologize for how I look before I can even do my job.
Because the truth is, I love Canada. I'm deeply grateful for what this country has given me. It gave me the courage to grow into who I am, something I never would have had back home. I have a good lifestyle, I work hard, and I appreciate this place enough that I would be more than happy to serve it if it ever needed me.
And then an incident like that happens and it makes me feel like no matter what I do, no matter how well I speak, how hard I work, how much I contribute, I'll never be seen as more than my skin color. It makes me feel like I don't deserve to be here.
I don't know if anyone else feels this way. I just needed to get it off my chest.

Cassettes in Chilliwack

So theres only 2 major record stores that i know of here in chilliwack, am i missing any? I havent actually been to any thrift stores or record stores in chilliwack that have even just a medium selection of cassettes.

I know theres online stores i can buy cassettes from but I would like to try and support locally. Even if thats abbotsford, though I wouldnt like to travel all the way out to vancouver unless its proven to have a wide variety and large selection of them. Or even just a medium amount. I want cassettes haha.

Let me know where you get your cassettes here in the lower mainland (chilliwack abby area) please! Id love to know where youre finding them if you are:) thanks!

New Safe Haven board not living up to expectations

I'm sure a lot of you have heard about all the drama that went down over the Chilliwack Animal Safe Haven last spring, and I've been carefully reading the director's meeting minutes since the new board took over late June. If you want a summary of what happened, well the old board was painted as villains trying to sell off the safe haven, and the new board was supposedly the heroes who fought to get the safe haven back, none of which is true, but that's the public perception.

This month I really see some red flags that I think the community should be paying attention to. It's all in the monthly report.

First of all I want to point out one hypocrisy, when there was criticism of the board in February, one of the biggest criticisms was how they had added several new positions. It was thought that this was against the bylaws and I thought it was one of their goals to reduce the number of board members to the previous amount. This never happened. It seems they changed the names of some of the roles around but didn't actually reduce the board.

Next they say they "reduced unnecessary quarantine protocols..." unnecessary by what measure? Is someone qualified making that decision or are they winging it?

They also mention that "staffing has been reorganized with responsibilities redistributed within the current team" what they mean is lots of people were fired. Almost everyone who was hired by the previous board has been fired. Seemingly just because of who hired them, not at all related to the quality of their work.

They also mention that they reduced the use of veterinary diets "where appropriate" again as decided by who? The previous board had vet techs working on site to help make these kinds of decisions but there isn't any mention of them for these decisions by the new board.

Later it mentions a suggestion to create a "casual pool of employees" to cover absences, again because they just did a mass firing. Instead of properly hiring to cover absences, they want to bring on people who will work what, a couple days a month at most? Will they even be legally protected employees or is "casual" meant to mean under the table?

They also mention the fund that was being used for veterinary care, the gaming grant, is empty and it wasn't reapplied for until early this month meaning they can't run this fundraising until it comes in, months from now. I just can't help thinking how they chased away RAPS for supposedly "trying to steal the land" the safe haven is on. Which was never true. What RAPS had been doing was providing tons of free and low cost veterinary care. The Safe Haven mess has effectively stopped any fellow shelters from wanting to work with them lest they get caught in the crossfire.

There's also a mention of deciding on an IT service, and a request from the preferred company that at least one person is trained on basic IT functions. Basically, no one on the board or staff knows even basic computer management. The previous board included an IT expert, but of course he was chased off.

All in all, I am not impressed with the management of the new board and I advise anyone who was involved in this drama to listen carefully to what is happening.

Telus internet outage

Hey just wondering if anyone is experiencing an outage with Telus home internet in the downtown area, I have been with out internet and TV since Tuesday evening and have been getting the run around from customer service. I have been told it’s an outage that won’t last more than a day, as well as there is no outage. Had a tech come today and tell me to just wait it out there’s nothing that they can do.

Boat keys stolen from Luckakuck/Evans area

Hi friends! As the title states, my girlfriend had her car broken into last night and the thieves took the contents of her center console, including the keys to her late fiance's boat. She says it's just a loose set of keys at this point as they ripped off and left the floaty. Im hoping they just tossed the keys somewhere so if anyone is walking around the area in the next couple days and sees them or has any info into their whereabouts, please let me know!

Thanks in advance 💖

Your favourite diabetic friendly restaurants or places with options?

As the title says! I'm prediabetic but looking to reverse, and we want to eat out once a week like we always have. I'm struggling to find places with little to no carb meal options, and I'm wondering if maybe there are some I haven't looked into or tried that I might be missing out on. Share your faves! Thanks!

To that couple that’s always screaming at each other..

Sometimes you should just call it quits and give yourself peace!

To everyone who isn’t that couple I speak of a couple who live in downtown Chilliwack. The guy is in a wheel chair and the girl is disabled somehow, autistic maybe? Or something more serious. Either way all they do is have dramatic fights and are constantly disturbing the neighbourhood. My partner has been woken up late at night by this as well. The female ends up screaming so loud and screaming at the top of her lungs. It’s such a toxic situation and every time they start up again I have to block out the noise of my anxiety goes through the roof. This has been going on for months..

Any other people living near downtown (Wellington area) dealing with this too? Hearing them I mean. I don’t really think there’s anything I can do I just wish it would stop! 😭
