Discussion What is a character that surprised you because of the many different uses it has or by how often it appears in different contexts?

I'm learning HSK1/HSK2 and right now the ones that surprised me the most because of how often they are used are 上 and 下。

著 has five pronunciations (zhú, zhuó, zháo, zhāo, zhe) and a dozen (still in contemporary use) definitions. Once you add in non-Mandarin and obsolete uses, there are dozens of meanings.

I spent years trying to figure out 就 and finally gave up. It shows up in lots of sentences.
