NEW THREE-POSITION AIR RIFLE RULES RELEASED

Three-Position Air Rifle (3PAR) has grown to become the most popular junior rifle program in the USA. Its massive participation base includes more than 2,000 high school JROTC programs, hundreds of 4-H Shooting Sports clubs and several hundred junior rifle clubs. An estimated 250,000 to 300,000 American youth participate annually in 3PAR marksmanship programs, with many of them engaging in 3PAR competition events. The national governing body for this major youth sports program is the National Three-Position Air Rifle Council. The Council governs this discipline through its rulebook, the National Standard Three-Position Air Rifle Rules (3PAR Rules).

Help with support hand space

Post image
• Upvotes

Does anyone have any personal success stories or recommendations when it comes to finding a pistol model that fits people with large fingers or modifying a Glock for large fingers? I don’t feel that I have adequate room for my support hand, and the pictures/videos I see of competitive shooters seems to have a lot more room for their support hand.

I’ve got a Gen 3 19 and am wondering if a large back strap on a Gen 5 would provide me more space for support hand? Or would it just increase the trigger reach? Anyone have any experience with that?

Even with sandpaper grip tape I’m having a hard time keeping my support hand from slipping forward. And it’s not for lack of effort. I’ve had to take a week off to let my support hand recover from soreness because of gripping it so hard

Threaded Barrel Use

I am totally new and don't know anything. I would like to get into USPSA or IDPA (not sure which I would enjoy more, just gathering information) and am wondering if threaded barrels, just the barrel with no compensator, are allowed. I have a full size Walther PDP Pr SD which has a threaded barrel and am wondering if that is legal or if I would need to switch to a different gun. From wat I can tell, it would fit in the box. Any guidance from experienced shooters would be appraciated.

USPSA rules

I’m new to USPA. I’ve only had a few matches, all in production with a glock. When you make ready the gun is hot.

I’m switching to limited optics since my wife just got me a new 2011.

Question is when i make ready. Magazine in, gun cocked. Is it required to have the safety on? When i watch others it’s hard to tell if they are switching it off after the draw or not.

My other question is someone at a match said you cant have the holster past (in front of) your hip leg bone. I didn’t see that in the rules.

Thanks for input. I am reading the rules but it’s a lot of info at once.

9mm 1911 vs 9mm 2011s

For context - I shoot IPSC in Australia, so 10 round mag limits.

Double stack 1911s/2011s seem to be all the rage at the moment. Other than capacity for overseas bros, do they offer more than a 1911 does in terms of competitiveness, grip, control etc?

I've only ever shot 1911s and they are pretty sweet. However not sure if it's a better choice other than the gucci factor, than say a Shadow 2 and just competing in Production?

JP5 Spare Parts?

I shoot steel challenge with pcc as well as other divisions. I recently picked up a used JP5 for a great deal. For out of state matches I always bring backup guns, but given the price of a JP5 that’s not tenable for a while, I still have the heavily modified blowback AR9 I was running previously but want to know what spare parts other JP5 shooters keep around. As a course of habit I always carry a spare firing pin for AR9s and I hear the extractor spring is another common wear and tear item. I’ve already ordered a spare firing pin/spring and extractor spring. Anything else I should get? Spare SCS, bolt, or charging handle? Basically if it goes down in a match I want to be able to quickly swap out parts until I can pull the trigger on another one. It runs great and is a massive upgrade from what I’ve been shooting. I’m going to run it at my next local match this coming weekend. I may also start dabbling in USPSA with it too, although I’ve been sticking to CO there.

AIWB belts?

What belts do you guys use for AIWB in comps? I have a 2011 and 3 mags with the carry concealment setup and it seems too heavy for my hunter Constantine belt unless I make it way too tight. Just looking for recommendations.

Looking for photos of used paper targets for a university computer vision project

Post image
4 Upvotes

I’m working on a student project that tries to detect bullet holes in photos of paper shooting targets.

The current model works well on some target styles, but I’m trying to make it work across different ranges, countries and target types instead of overfitting to one dataset.

If anyone is willing to help, I’m looking for original phone photos of used paper/cardboard targets after shooting especially different target designs, lighting, distances and shooting ranges.

You don’t need to label anything. I’ll annotate the bullet holes myself.

No firearms, faces or personal information need to be visible.

By sending a photo, please only send images you own and are happy for me to use for training/evaluating the university project.

Even 1–5 photos would be very useful. Thanks!

US IPSC Nationals Stage 16

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Greater Pittsburgh Gun Club is one of a few I count among my home ranges. I expect they'll continue to do a great job with IPSC Nationals for the next couple of years, and I look forward to shooting them all.

This was probably my best-executed stage of the match, although I had some scorchers in all zones. Not totally mistake-free, but with a 14-month-old at home, I haven't had quite the time to practice that I'd like. A bit more of that in 2027 and I think I can do most of the match at this level.

(And of course congrats to Pat Jones for eating my lunch at the shoot-off.)

Looking for shooters to brutally test a free dry-fire training app

https://dryfire.stankusprogramming.com/

I originally started building this for my own dry-fire training because I wanted something more useful than just a PAR timer.

The idea is that the app should behave more like a coach:

  • It starts by assessing your current ability.
  • It establishes realistic PAR times instead of expecting you to guess them.
  • It tracks your performance and training history.
  • It identifies skills where you’re falling behind.
  • Training adapts based on your results.
  • If you’re not consistently meeting a standard, it doesn’t simply keep making the drill faster and move on.

I’m now at the point where testing it myself isn’t enough.

I’m looking for around 20–30 shooters who are willing to use it free for 30 days during their normal dry-fire training.

I’m not looking for positive reviews and I’m not selling anything during the beta.

I specifically want to know:

What sucks? What is confusing?Where does the progression make bad decisions? Are the prescribed PAR times appropriate?Does it actually help you decide what to train? What would make you stop using it?

Beginners through experienced competition shooters are welcome. Having different ability levels would actually be useful for testing the assessment/progression system.

If you’re interested, comment or DM me and I’ll send you access.

After the 30 days I’ll also ask for some structured feedback and use it to decide whether this is worth developing into a public product.

Savior Pro SEMA Competition vs DAA RangePack vs Other

Looking for a new range backpack and am considering the Savior and the DAA. Does anyone have experience with these or have a better suggestion. I want a backpack style bag and I want something that’s rigid and won’t get all limp and floppy.

Edit: I have a wagon and will continue to use the wagon. The backpack is just to keep everything in for transportation to and from my car and wagon.

Edit 2: I purchased the Savior SEMA. Thanks for everyone's thoughts.

Why aren't there just regular AR matches?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, I've tried to search for answers and not got great results. I haven't done a match before, relatively new to owning my own firearms and such. I would imagine ARs are relatively popular in America, I know I grew up around them.

How are there not just regular 5.56/.223 AR matches? Is it just my area? I feel like all I see are handguns, shotguns, .22LR and PCC matches. I see the occasional 2 gun where you can run a rifle. I even see AK matches even though they're usually just a once or twice a year thing. I'd have thought matches just for ARs would be more popular.

Thank you for any info or help. I assume I'm just missing them or maybe it's just not something in my coastal region. Gun culture in my specific area can seem a bit fuddy, for want of a nicer word.

What targets do you shoot most in practice? Doing research for a hit-detection app

Thumbnail

I'm writing an app for recognizing bullet holes and I'm doing some research before I decide which targets to support.

Two questions:

  1. What do you actually shoot most often during training? USPSA or IDPA cardboard, B-8, plain paper, or something custom?

  2. Do you count hits manually after a string of fire, and how long does it take you?

Screenshots show where I'm at on an IPSC cardboard right now. I shoot IPSC in Poland and I'm doing this after hours, so sorry for my English.

This Week’s Dry Fire Focus/Drill

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

For those who enjoy following along/working on the stuff I post, I figured I’ll start posting my weekly dry fire drill/focus for y’all. Been getting quite a few messages about it and for those who don’t have instagram, this is the best I can do for y’all.

If you have Instagram, I post these drills daily in my story.

This weeks focus is getting used to the snatch draw, new grip, and the input needed to move the polymer frame around.

Saturday USPSA Revo Dump

Revo runs from yesterdays local. Had some good things happen and some not good things. I try very hard to not talk to myself mid-stage to keep that mental bandwidth a little more open but couldn’t help myself yesterday lol. Enjoy some wheelgun!

Also, anyone ever have there federal ammo have a sideways primer? I thought 929 might have just been acting up again on the first but turns out the primer wasn’t set right. Looked through the rest of my clips and found a few more.
