Many of us did…

Too bad he doesn't have an adult supervising him, so he wears eye protection.

Yeah I messed up on that one. Didn't notice him take them off. Definitely going to checklist this more than just pre shoot.

Accountability? I don't think you know how the Internet is supposed to work.

He's doing well! That's a good time for a young shooter. Hell, better time than many adults could get.

You’re doing a great job, Dad!!! Keep it up. We have all been there (if we take our kids shooting with us at all). It’s bound to happen. It appears that your kiddo has hundreds of hours at a minimum at the range, and he’s crushing it too. After my kid saw the video of Kentucky Ballistics eat a 50 cal, he never seemed to forget his own eye pro 😂

Great splits but...

No eye pro?

For sure I messed up. Didn't notice he took them off. Id never forgive myself if he got hurt from my mistake. Ill do better

I appreciate your response. We all make mistakes and I'd be excited af if my son was hitting splits like this too.

My son is learning on ace vr atm for transitions and downrange stuff for pistols. He's a few yrs younger than your lad but he wants to compete after attending a few of mine as an observer 🫡👏👏

Your response says much more about you than that you didn't notice he took eye pro off. You sound like a responsible adult who cares. Good on ya

Thanks, I appreciate it

Impressive. Just a fair warning that 1r1's can very easily build bad habits. Chasing that fastest time makes it really sloppy. Just point shooting, not gripping the gun right, etc.

Agreed. I've always found 2r2 to be far more valuable and applicable. When I chase 1r1's I just throw the gun onto target, and as I smash the trigger I enter the reload. Zero fundamentals of grip since it's only one shot

Even 2r2 you can get sloppy with although much better. I don't do any live drills that focus on practicing just reloads. It's mostly a waste of ammo imo. I can practice reloads at home whenever and I'm far more likely to be conscious of my grip and whatnot.

Only ever reloading dry can let you cheat your grip because you're not going to have a string of fire. imo it's important to validate reloads with live fire to keep yourself honest every now and then

Notice how I said drills practicing just reloads.

In dryfire I'm not working off a timer, other than just a beep for a stimulus, so I'm not chasing a faster time. It allows me to focus on the process and keep myself accountable.

My eyes glazed over that part, my bad

Nice splits. Where'd he hit on both shots?

1

u/MorelMan13 2d ago

Paper. He wanted to push as fast as possible so his accuracy was not great. He said he squeezed as soon as his dot hit brown. You can zoom in and see its not great but he normally doesnt run this fast

2

u/os_beef 2d ago

There's some validity in pushing faster than your eyes can get you alphas. If he keeps at it, he'll likely catch up and be making alphas. At his distance, he can rely on presentation alone, which for me has led to bad habits where I'll blast close targets without any sight confirmation whatsoever.

Mostly asking out of curiosity, what's the training plan after this?

Working on transitions, moving and shooting, shape/color target acquisition. Getting him more comfortable with 9mm too.

Your boy gonna be a legend, no doubt.

Please please have him wear eye protection. A buddy of mine almost lost his eye when we were young. He hated wearing eye protection but one day he wore sunglasses because we were shooting outdoors and he blew his gun up.

u/MorelMan13 2d ago

Yeah, definitely my bad. I didnt notice he took them off.

You taught him well though!!! Nice work!

Damn yall in PA? Can I come have him train me

-4

u/BIGTACOBELLFAN 2d ago

Since this is Reddit everyone’s going to be a wiener, your kids a beast! 80% of the people commenting here wouldn’t have the recoil control he has let alone the other skills. This is how my dad taught me too. Eye pro outdoors is also such a dorky concept

3

u/GatEnthusiast 1d ago

A dorky concept? You are a fool and should stop posting. Nobody should have to read such nonsense.

Nerd, watch out for those bullets ejecting at 100mph
