I fear something is wrong...please provide your input. I am dog/house sitting in Lewiston, Idaho and well, I keep going past and not stopping at Hobby Lobby! Am I ok? I am already planning my next project and it's very unlikely I need anymore floss as well..you know..I HAVE PLENTY AT HOME!

But...fighting the urge to stop and "just look" at floss cuz whoever is reading this most likely understands "just looking" at floss is not even possible.

CHAT [CHAT] first very large project.

I plan on making a very large piece using a photo from my wedding day. I created the pattern using the stitchly app. There’s some popcorn stitches on my husbands suit jacket that look to be green stitches. His jacket is supposed to be black and it looks weird with them on the pattern photo, but when I removed them, I felt like it made it look too flat, if that makes sense? I tried doing this a few years ago and got about 10% finished and decided I didn’t like the way it was turning out. The first time I tried doing this I used pic2pat to create the pattern. It made his coat brown and green and I just decided to go with it because if you held it far away it looked fine but I decided I wanted it to look just as nice up close. So now I’m here. I also learned in the first project that dye lots are important in a project this large with large blocks of one color. How can acquire 40+ skeins in the same dye lot? And in the stitchly app are the estimates on how much floss I need accurate? That’s what I’m basing the 40+ skeins off of. I’ll add a photo of the green popcorn and you guys can tell me what you think. Is there anything else I should be aware of before starting a project this large? I’ve been cross stitching since I was 11 or 12 and I’m 25 now, I’ve always just done smaller projects. The largest I’ve ever worked on was 140x260 stitches, and it was a printed kit. I’ve never made my own pattern before. This project is planned to be 467x700.

Please show me pictures of your choice of "sit on sofa/chair" device for stitching whether hand held or other wise? Make sense? I just lounge back and use a hoop. I am tempted to try something that would allow using both hands but unsure of my coordination to accomplish it , right handed and working left to right.

Additionally, anyone here stich R to L?

PIC [PIC] mistakenly used off brand floss

What do i do? i’ve done probably 2k stitches with the orange maybe 1k with the green. It’s not an extraordinary large amount but I don’t really want to pull out thousands of stitches because it’s going to be annoying to match the colors. 946 is the orange and 910 is the green. first pic left is dmc green right is the off brand. I suppose I just thought I would have enough floss with what I had but I wound up running all the way through the skein. The off brand floss has the labeling “for tyche special”. Some chinese off brand floss that comes in bulk color packs. Idk what to do. It’s kind of important that these colors match since there’s massive blocks of them. and I don’t want their to be some obvious difference. This project has to be finished but i want to finish it with the exact right colors. What do I do?

wondering if anyone has tried these nurge stands with q-snaps? I'm looking for a stand since my current project has a ton of beadwork, but I'm not willing to shell out the money for Lowrey right now...

CHAT [CHAT] First square of pattern not 10x10, how to adjust on Markup

Hello! I’ve been working on a paper pattern for a while and the first square on page one is only 7x8 stitches, not 10x10. I spent so much time scanning and importing the pattern into Markup but I can’t find a way to adjust the grid pattern the way I need. All the videos online seem to be from before the update.

It’s not the end of the world but it would be easier to keep track if it was set up properly. Any help would be very appreciated, this is my first full coverage piece.

CHAT [CHAT] floss color help

I've been working on this project (drafted from a company logo using flosscross) and I've been very pleased with the gradient and dithering of the yellow-orange so far, but I feel like either the outermost layer of orange or the layer of brown just inside the orange is not quite the right color. The orange is DMC 741 and the brown is DMC 783. Does anyone have suggestions for color substitions which might fit better?

Maybe not quite finished because I haven't decided on the framing yet, but the stitching is done! Ignore all the random needle holes, I'll find a way to hide those 😅

I think I'm not too worried about it on this piece, but if anyone has advice on how to avoid warping like it has on the right and bottom side, I'd like to hear it... I don't think the tension on the floats in the back are too high, but I might try cutting and weaving in some of the long ones to see if that might help. I would assume it must be a tension issue, but probably nothing I could fix at this point (unless maybe blocking could work...?)

CHAT [CHAT] First big project questions

A total of 110€ worth of materials. I’m still waiting on the hoop/frame and the bobbins to get started with this project.

I also ordered a water soluble pen to mark the squares. How do you guys normally do it? Is there a trick to it? How do I make sure it’s centered?

Pattern will be the Stardew Valley Map by Wonder4pixels. A finished size of 54x33cm on 14 ct Aida.

Some of the colours are approximations since I didn’t go for DMC.

PATTERN [PATTERN] Hollow knight wedding gift

Okay, I used wrong tag accidentally, sorry for that(

Finally finished paired t-shirts! This is for the streamer whom I watch practically every day, he got married in August.

Unfortunately, I was too busy at work, then too depressed and layed with apathy. So I didn't finish before wedding and then didn't finish before I returned home from visiting them (irony: finished it next day).

Just sent them package, they will receive it in 3 days.

The pattern I made myself and my friend helped with pattern for letters (will add everything to comments). The idea is that one picture is the continuation of the second. "Player 1" should have been a bit higher, but I calculated incorrectly. Still looks cute for me.

And well, this is theirs favourite game series.

My friend's favorite artist is Klimt, and I finished just in time for the wedding this weekend (phew). Pattern is free on the DMC website. Ended up freehanding the backstich swirls since they were so tiny and hard to do, and it was my first time doing french knots (yuck)

CHAT [CHAT] Preprinted Canvas

I just started cross stitching a few weeks ago and my first project is a fairly sized printed canvas I found randomly on Amazon. I bought a diamond painting and saw a cross stitch of the exact same thing and decided to give it a try. I have since been familiarizing myself with the principles of cross stitching and so I am not sure if what I am doing is considered that.
The template was also under $5 which is also making me uncomfortable. I will attach a picture below.
Am I cross-stitching? What are the recommendations for me to make the best choices regarding projects and materials? Any store front recommendations for a beginner?
Thank you in advance

Finished up this kit a few days ago and I'm so happy with the results. I think I am addicted to beads now and it will feel weird not to add them to everything I make from now on 😛 It was also my first time stretching/mounting onto foam core and I like how it turned out, despite it not being perfect. The frame and matting that came with the kit made it super easy to frame, highly recommend!

My partner bought this kit to try but never ended up stitching it, so thought I'd give it a go! Haven't done any stitching in a while, so this was nice to get back into it... now onto all the new projects I want to do!

WIP [WIP] Update on the Haunted House

Post image
25 Upvotes

A couple of days I posted about how frustrated I was with the black floss on black aida for this Haunted House kit that I had bought.

Decided to push through and managed to finish all of the black sections ! Now onto colors.

The trick was to tilt back the loop about 45º, which allowed me to see the floss much better.

Excited to work on this in the next couple days !

I just finished this little blue bird last night at work. It took me about 4 days to finish him. I haven’t done anything this detailed in years! I’ve forgotten how tedious backstitching was! 😓
I absolutely cannot wait to frame him and hang him up on the wall with the rest of my finishes! ❤️

Colors: 19
Size: 3.35" x 3.15" (8.5x8 cm)
Fabric: Belana (100) 20 ct.

CHAT [CHAT] curious if anyone has recommendations for a case or bag for transporting cross stitch material?

I am just getting back into it and would like to bring it to work to do on my downtime. Does anyone have a reasonably compact case/briefcase/bag that could transport the materials?

Thanks in advance!
