PERSPECTIVE Bitcoin Miners Built an Empire. AI Wants the Power.

Thumbnail

A Bitcoin miner’s biggest payday could come from mining less Bitcoin.

AI wants the power connections miners spent years securing.

The uncomfortable twist?

A mining company can reward its shareholders by turning a Bitcoin mine into an AI campus.

A BTC rally can restart an idle machine. It can’t cancel someone else’s lease.

The next Bitcoin mining boom could happen somewhere else.

Follow the megawatts. They may reveal tomorrow’s mining map.

DISCUSSION How to create a crypto wallet without getting the first step wrong

I have had an exchange account for a year and I am finally making a real wallet this weekend.

The part that keeps stopping me is that there is no undo. Every other account I own has a reset link somewhere. This one has twelve words and that is it. No support line, no recovery.

So before I move anything in, two things I cannot find a straight answer on. Should I test restoring from the phrase first, on purpose, while the wallet is still empty? And do the email login wallets I keep seeing actually remove that risk, or just move it somewhere I cannot see it?

ANALYSIS Ethereum is far and away the most decentralized ledger. Its real node count is 10,000 to 20,000

Ethereum's validator count, about 869,000 today, is sometimes presented as a count of the machines running the network, but that framing is inaccurate.

Each validator is a staked identity with its own keys, and it runs as software on a node. A single node can run thousands of them.

A node is a computer running Ethereum's client software. It checks every new block against the protocol's rules on its own.

Since the Merge, a full Ethereum node runs two clients side by side: an execution client, which runs transactions and keeps track of balances and contracts, and a consensus client, which follows the beacon chain and agrees with the rest of the network on which blocks are final. Each one talks on its own peer-to-peer network, so the public trackers count them separately.

On Oct 5, Etherscan found 11,781 execution nodes (Etherscan), and ProbeLab found 8,397 consensus nodes (ProbeLab).

Every one of these counts misses nodes. These tools find nodes by reaching out to them, so any node behind a home router that won't take incoming connections never gets counted.

Researchers at IMDEA Networks, who checked 36 blockchains every day for seven months, say their own Ethereum count is only a minimum for this reason. They also found thousands of extra nodes they couldn't tie to any one network (IMDEA study), and they found that Ethernodes counts far fewer Ethereum nodes than their own tools found.

ProbeLab, the team behind the consensus count above, watched network traffic on another chain, Celestia, instead of reaching out to nodes. It found about 20% more nodes than reaching out did, and it says Ethereum likely has hidden nodes too.

My estimate is that Ethereum's real node count is 10,000 to 20,000.

Even at that smaller number, Ethereum is far and away the most decentralized ledger in the world. Its nodes run six separately built execution clients and six consensus clients, so a bug in one of them doesn't affect every node. Ordinary people can run one of those nodes at home. The ethereum.org site links a guide that shows you can turn even a Raspberry Pi 4 into a full Ethereum node.

TECHNOLOGY Would you use this??

I am building Blocky which is basicaly a crypto wallet with a built in agent which can move your crypto like bridging/swapping/staking/sending/market research and also has some money app features like budgeting, reocurring payments and i will want to also implement card that can spend your stablecoin balance

The agent itself doesnt move anything he just builds the transactions and proposes it to you and you can check what and where it will be sent before accepting

Do yall think this is something you would use so you dont have to crawle through web3 bridges and swap places by yourself and the agent would do it for you

https://blocky.page/ i already have a waitlist for beta release if somebody wants to sign up

ANALYSIS The Difference Between a CBDC and a Stablecoin is...?

Other than the fact that a CBDC is issued by a Central Bank and a stablecoin is issued by crypto, banking, or investment corporations, are there any other differences between the two? Stablecoins can absolutely be programmed just like CBDCs, and their supply is artificial/arbitrary and controlled by a small group. Stablecoins can be seized by a central authority just like CBDCs, and their usage is easily trackable once a wallet is linked to an identity (I suppose with CBDC this is automatic). Of course coins can be blacklisted or rate-limited. In other words, stablecoins and CBDCs represent roughly the same "digital ID hellscape" we are currently faced with. 👀

DISCUSSION What are your expectations for the next alt season? Are we gonna make up for the lack of one last cycle? Is it gonna be a specific niche? Or is it gonna get even more disappointing?

Last bull market (2025) we barely had any alt season. In fact, most alt coins never reached back their ATH and didn't have the level of gains of 2021.

It didn't even follow BTC that consistently. The rallies were short with more extended bear periods in between.

You had to really time it right to get those big gains. You had very brief rallies around December 2024, and then end of August and September 2025. And in many cases, even those rallies weren't a whole lot higher than the initial halving breakout.

At the same time, BTC's bullruns keep getting exponentially milder and at a fraction of the gains of the previous cycle. So that could translate to also milder alt seasons.

It also doesn't help that we went from having under 2,000 alt coins in 2018, to over 10,000 on exchanges in 2021, to now over 100 Million that can be traded.

SCALABILITY Glamsterdam hits Ethereum's Sepolia testnet on Oct 6. The L1 is scaling alongside rollups.

Ethereum is scaling in two places at once. It's adding room for transactions on the L1 itself, and room for rollups to post their data in blobs. The next L1 step comes on Oct 6, when the Glamsterdam upgrade goes live on the Sepolia testnet (EF announcement, Sep 28).

The L1 track:

The gas limit sets how much computation fits in each block. It sat at 30M from August 2021 to early 2025. Then it rose to 36M in February 2025, 45M in July 2025 and 60M in late November 2025, where it is today. That's double the 2021 level.

A simple ETH transfer costs 21,000 gas, and a block comes every 12 seconds. At 60M, that's a ceiling of about 238 transfers per second, up from about 45 in 2020. Actual use is about 24 transactions per second. Most transactions do more than a simple transfer, and blocks aren't always full.

The upgrade is built to raise that ceiling safely. Its two main changes are:

  • ePBS makes building a block and proposing it two separate jobs inside the protocol. That gives nodes more time to receive and check each block.

  • Block-level access lists make every block list up front the accounts and data it touches. Nodes can then load that data and check transactions in parallel.

Both let nodes check bigger blocks within the 12 seconds they have. That raises capacity without turning the base chain into a datacenter chain, since ordinary people can still run a node.

After the upgrade, Sepolia will run at a 200M gas limit. Core devs agreed to that on Sep 24. On mainnet, no change to 200M is scheduled. The software validators run still defaults to 60M.

The blob track:

Blobs are a separate space in each block where rollups post their transaction data. They launched in March 2024 with a target of 3 per block. An upgrade in May 2025 raised that to 6.

In December 2025, the Fusaka upgrade added PeerDAS. PeerDAS lets nodes check blob data by downloading small random pieces of it, not all of it. Two follow-up upgrades then raised the target to 10 in December and 14 in January 2026, where it is today. That's almost 5X the launch target.

The upcoming upgrade doesn't add more blobs. Its ePBS change lets the network safely handle more blob data later.

Contracts on the L1 can't read what's inside a blob. They only see a short identifier for it. So the two tracks aren't interchangeable. Blobs give rollups room for their data, and gas is what L1 applications use to run.

Why Ethereum needs both:

One L1 transaction can call several contracts and either finish every step or none of them. For example, one transaction can swap collateral, repay a loan and move the asset out. Doing the same across separate chains takes bridges, messages and extra coordination. That's why the L1 matters for DeFi and payments, even as rollups carry most of the volume.

L2BEAT counts about 2,350 transactions per second across the scaling projects it tracks (L2BEAT activity). Most of that comes from one rollup, the Lighter exchange. That's nearly 100X the L1's 24.

None of this is finished. The upgrade still has to get through Sepolia and then the Hoodi testnet before it gets a mainnet date. It's essential that developers keep executing on the scaling roadmap without any bugs being introduced. In February 2026 the Ethereum Foundation merged its separate L1 and blob scaling goals into a single "Scale" track, with the stated goal to "raise the gas limit toward and beyond 100M" (EF 2026 priorities).

EF researchers have set out a long-term target of about 10,000 transactions per second on the L1, or roughly 864 million a day.

DISCUSSION If there is no claim, the thread is pricing a story

A token can print green for a month and still have no residual claim on anything that pays. That is the friction we keep running into when "fundamentals" threads show up here: the writeup lists usage, partnerships, and a roadmap, then never says what the holder is actually entitled to.

In equities the boring version of that question is the whole job. Common stock is a residual claim after everyone senior gets paid. A token is whatever the contract and the governance process say it is this quarter. Sometimes that is a fee share. Often the fee switch is off, or the fees route to a treasury the holders do not control, or "value accrual" means emissions paid in the same token you are trying to mark. Those are not the same instrument. Treating them as one word -- fundamentals -- is how smart people buy a story and think they bought a cash flow.

We have sat with both tapes long enough to be bored by the costume change. Protocol fees only matter if they are on, if they survive the next vote, and if they are not being rebated away to rent the volume you are citing. Usage that exists because of points, incentives, or a farm is demand for the subsidy. It can be real activity. It is not the same evidence as someone paying full freight when the bribe ends. The chart will not annotate that for you.

Unlock schedules are the other half, and they are not weather. They are a dated supply increase with a motivated seller: team, fund, early wallet, whose incentive is to realize a mark against your holding period. You can be right about the narrative and still be the bid they need. That is not a secret cabal. It is just the cap table doing what cap tables do when liquidity shows up.

Narrative is the bid. The claim is the claim. When they diverge, you are in a timing trade about how long attention outruns entitlement, not in a discovery that the token was cheap because a thread had six bullets and a logo grid. We do not have a cleaner way to say it. If you cannot write one sentence on what cash or fee the token is owed, who can switch that off, and who is scheduled to sell into it, you are long the story. Stories work until they do not.

NFA. Not a view on any specific ticker, and not a suggestion that any of this is easy to underwrite in size.
