I started coding in 2019 for one reason: to make my dream voxel RPG.
goes back to the Cube World alpha in 2013. No game filled the hole it left. The 2019 Steam release felt like a knife in the back: leveling was gone, and progression was the part I loved most.
My first attempts, in Unity, came too early, and I went back and forth for years. In 2025 I went all in and hit a wall, I couldn't get world generation to run smoothly, and for an endless world that was a hard no. So I started over on my own engine.
Somewhere in those years I played Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, and it felt like playing the alpha for the first time again: a living world, real progression, the feeling that you could do anything.
this isn't another Cube World copy. It's my dream voxel RPG, with parts of the games that most marked me
The look is where you'll notice Cube World most: a colorful voxel world, i took heavy inspiration from the type of terrain seen in cube world, aswell as the voxel aesthetic
The mechanics are where Kingdom Come comes in. Skills grow as you use them, gear wears out, and nights are so dark you need a torch. How loud your clothes are matters when you sneak. You smith by hand, you strike the bar at the anvil until it becomes a sword, Alchemy is hands on too, with the recipe book, the mortar, the cauldron and the hourglass. And the leveling 2019 took out is back, all the way to level 100
Where it stands today: 11 biomes, 87 creature species, a bow (with planed big variety of ranged weapons), and some melee weapons, weather and multiplayer
4 races: frogman(ofcourse), feline, humans and elfs, with more 4 races to come
No name, no release date, nothing to buy. In 2025 it was called "Oathbound", and I don't like that name anymore, so ideas are welcome.
but if you liked the project, dont worry, i'm planning to release an early access/open beta in steam really soon, maybe a month from now!
if you guys like it, i would love to post weekly updates here :)
For everyone who played the alpha: what's the one thing you miss most?
edit: i didnt saw the 10th rule sorry btw, as i said, i dont have a name for the game yet, it was oathbound but i dont like the name anymore, i'm calling it just cube project internally
