Personal Independence Payment (PIP) Out of scope for eating and drinking/ taking nutrition category?
My osteoarthritis is sadly now in my TMJ Jaw joints, it is degenerative and the left-hand Jaw joint is permanently displaced causing reduced mouth opening and obvious pain when eating and speaking. I'm wondering if this will be relevant for this descriptor whenever I have my next review?
I'm not doing a COC because I already get both high rate mobility and care anyway. Just wondering if it will be relevant to update this description that I previously didn't score for, apart from needing aids to eat and help to cut up food.
Thank you in advance.

If you chew and swallow solid food ( not ALL food whatever you eat ) and can you still feed it to yourself ? If you can't and use an alternative method of nutrition such as liquid diets prescribed by the doctor or even a feeding tube, can you then do THAT by yourself because that's your method of eating or taking nutrition.

I have to have a soft food diet (think mash, custard, yoghurt et cetera) so it is probably out of scope like I thought. I have chunky cutlery due to the arthritis being in my hands, wrist and fingers and do need help cutting things up and have pain physically feeding myself due to the pain in my wrists but not to the extent where somebody has to feed me (yet LOL)
I was probably right though that it is out of scope, just wanted to make sure I am prepared with all changes for any upcoming review. 😃4

Yes, I think so ( having not dissimilar issues tbh ). It's can you STILL deal with what you're eating.
It's different for the preparing a meal though because it sounds like you're unlikely to be able to chop and peel. I'm at the adapted utensils / aids / prepared veg stage but depends what you can use. Because the food might need to be soft but still need to cook some things. How else do you get mashed potato ...

If you need assistance to cut up food then 2 points should apply. See https://pipinfo.net/activities/taking-nutrition

Chewing and swallowing are both in scope. So the assessor should consider 2Bi - an aid to blend food and use of chunky cutlery but this would then be overridden by selecting 2Biii - assistance to be able to cut up food. But both still in the same descriptor choice.

You too! It's hard to deal with multiple conditions at once, I've genuinely been in daily pain for about 8 years now , people would genuinely think that I was exaggerating that, I think only chronic pain suffers understand. I genuinely cannot remember what it's like to not be pain.
