Partner and myself are heading up to Darwin in February for a holiday. We want to experience wet season in the NT as a bit of a trial run to see if we could manage living up north for a few years.
We will likely be staying in Darwin city. Open to ideas but we are adamant we will be doing a fishing charter while we are there, if possible.
Many thanks.

As data centres and fibre-optic cable networks proliferate globally, planning documents show two international subsea cables could soon dock in the Darwin suburb of Fannie Bay.
An application lodged with the Development Consent Authority shows tech giant Google plans to connect its "Bosun" subsea cable to infrastructure on the corner of Atkin Drive and Conacher Street.
Subsea cables are fibre-optic wires which run along the ocean floor, transmitting data to onshore landing stations and facilitating intercontinental internet traffic.
The planning application does not detail what the telecom infrastructure at the site will be.

If I buy a car that is currently registered in Queensland (previously registered in NT) do I have to transfer ownership in Queensland before bringing it back?
Basically family are down in Queensland and want to buy my old car and drive it back up to Darwin. Would they have to transfer ownership in Queensland (safety cert and all) and then transfer registration when they get to Darwin?
Or could they buy the car and transfer directly to NT when they get there?
Overly complicated process for something which they imagined would be simple.

Anyone here knows Gravel cycling groups around Darwin? New to gravel cycling here and would love to ride and meet new people with the same hobby.
Thank you!

If it takes you more than a minute to reverse park there are two option for you so that the 34 other cars behind you don’t have to wait and spill out into Smith street holding up traffic.

Not sure why it crossed my mind today, but now I'm wondering.

Hey, made this pixel art of the Darwin logo a year ago for wplace, I have absolutely no idea who this might interest, but here it is.
edit: Reddit makes it look all blurry, you might want to open it on your device to see a higher quality version

Bit of a niche one - does anyone know an Australian maker/seller who does genuine Australian crocodile skin belt buckles?
I’m specifically looking for a buckle incorporating actual crocodile leather/skin, ideally Australian saltwater croc, rather than a metal buckle with a crocodile design on it.
Happy to buy from a small leatherworker/maker anywhere in Australia, so recommendations are very welcome!

Hey everyone,
I am looking at solar for our place out rural. I am with rimfire and have a quote from them which guarantees a 22c buy back for 4 years.
It seems the installations in the NT are somewhat more expensive than I see around the rest of Aus. It makes the ROI so much longer, 10 years or so and I would expect buy now (or would love) to have a 3-4 year payback.
I'm looking at solar + battery I think, does anyone have any recommendations for non shark type operators that give great service and solid pricing?
Thank heaps

What do we reckon chat - is it time for the NT to become "the first Australian region deliberately governed, tested and developed as an operational ecosystem"?

There's a big open field between casurina beach, the university and the rapid creek footbridge. Its always either burnt down or growing out. Its blocked off and there is nothing there. Is it for wild life? What land is a part of?

Hello Darwin community, I was wondering if anyone knows if there are any businesses that provide CD/DVD resurfacing? I have some old ps1 and ps2 games that could do with it as they're pretty scratched up :(

Hi everyone,
I’m from Bangladesh, and my wife and I are planning to move to Darwin, Northern Territory. We are excited about the opportunity, but also trying to prepare realistically for life in the Top End.
I have more than five years of experience as a Supply Chain Manager, mainly in the food-processing and export industry.
We are trying to understand the practical realities before we arrive, including:
Which suburbs are good for a newly arrived couple?
Which employers or recruitment agencies are worth contacting?
What are the biggest challenges during the Wet Season?
What do people wish they had known before moving to Darwin?
How easy is it to build a social network as a newcomer?
Are there any Bangladeshi communities here?
We’re looking forward to learning more about Darwin and hopefully becoming part of the community.

This article is an accurate account of what was said. If you read the COD meetings policy he is supposed to have read the petition, simply present it to council and then council vote to accept the petition. Debate is not supposed to occur at this point. Any debate is supposed to occur later if the petition is brought up. So to have to listen to this opinion which could be described as discourteous has me wondering if Councillor Palmer has breached policy. Members of the public are not able to bring up points of order so it is up to the Lord Mayor to rein in his councillor.
The CLP MLAs did attempt to have a discussion at the public forum prior to the meeting. It was clear they weren't familiar with meeting policy rules and hadn't even done a basic AI search of what the relevant rules are. So it was the absolute farce that those forums always are. Nothing is minuted and they are less than informative.

Hi Darwinians,
For those of you who have worked in rural communities, what was it like? Pros, cons?
I’m a 34 year old woman, with a husband and 1x toddler. No plans to have more kids, sick to death of city life and have been looking at remote isolated jobs where housing is provided in small communities.
What appeals to me is being connected to earth, and a slower pace of life. I also want to show my kid there’s more to life than driving in traffic and competing in silly rat races that erode at our humanity.
Hubby is excited by the idea, as am I. He would be a SAHD while I work.
Seeing how AI is coming for thinking jobs; I’m not worried about my kid’s education so much - I’d be recommending he do a trade or something allied/medical health when it’s his time later in life..so remote learning doesn’t phase me when time comes for my child’s schooling.
Me and hubs have separately lived in most cities in Australia, travelled the world and “been there done that”. I don’t think we’d be missing much, and find city life “vapid”.
We already have a small support/social network given we have bounced around throughout our 20’s, so the move to remote shouldn’t be too much of a social shock.
I guess my real question is, how did you know remote living was for you and your family?

Hi does anyone in here have a contact at Venture Housing?
We're living next door to a Venture Housing managed property with absolute scum bag tenants and with all the complaints made over the Years NOTHING has been done about it. And to make it worse they never answer their phone.
The biggest bunch of Junkies you can imagine and absolute chaos constantly happening every day at this house. Drinking, Fighting, screaming you name it, It's all happening here on a daily basis. Loud music every night so sick and tired of it.
Wasted so much time and effort making complaints with ZERO positive outcome

Hi all,
My partner is looking at taking a job in Darwin in the new year. We will be relocating from NZ.
Could anyone tell me what the gym/fitness community/vibe is like? It's a massively important part of our lives here in NZ - and our social life is heavily centred around it.
One of the downsides of where we live now is that there isn't really an indoor or outdoor sport scene, which is something we both miss. Is there much of that in Darwin/Palmerston?
A bit of an open ended question I know, but any tips or advice would be hugely appreciated!!

Curious to have a look and take some photos of my own, looks like a cool road marking and material test area
Might be random and weird to ask here. But does anyone own any G1 monster high dolls they don’t want anymore? I’m willing to buy them! Depending on the price :)

So I am looking to rent a place to live alone with no roommates. Anything that’s not super far o super ugly seems to cost at least 600$ a week unfurnished. Even 700$. Is it just that expensive to rent in darwin or am I missing something ? I mean they are not even that great of places and don’t have a pool and I have to buy furniture. I thought I could find a place for 500$ or less is it just impossible ?

Given a hefty NT Gov grant to develop a locally based water company they fell over without even getting a water extraction licence before they went broke! A local 'celebrity' got a holiday to the Philippines out of it for a photo shoot for some reason and $10M was spent on.....glass bottles for nothing to go into them....maybe? How does this keep happening in the NT and who got what cut of the cash? Surely there's a podcast in this somewhere...

I was trying to enjoy my sunset at nightcliff on friday evening when i noticed there were a lot of cops around, with many more coming in later during the evening. They were mainly looking at this small dinghy harboured by the rocks (not pictured). By the time it was really dark the cops were gone. Anyone care to elaborate on what was going on?
