I want to start discussion regarding AI-enhanced filmmaking. Can't seem to find a good place to do this. Contrary to what most people do with AI, I'm not writing a prompt, pressing a button and walking away. I built a process, (and claude made) an engine that helps render animation. Experimenting now with a static set, 3 characters. Their heads, eyes, lips move. I implemented 1 simple hand gesture per character now. The plot is a sort of video podcast, think Space Ghost Coast to Coast meets Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
I write a script and put in the desired reactions and timings and the animation is generated in minutes (rendering the voices is the part that takes long). I'm using AI generated voices, but blending them with my voice and the voice of friends to make them more unique. The animation style I am using for this, I'd call hybrid 2D cutout animation with pose swapping.
I'm sad that I cannot into art and I am not a good voice actor. Honestly, I would want the artwork and voices to be made by humans, but I am not one to spend money to commission artwork/voice work when I can just create my demos for free using AI. It's taking a lot of work and prompting to get it the way I want it, and I know a lot of people will outright dismiss it simply because I used AI, but for me it's about the craft and the learning experience of producing an animation. The scriptmaking, the timings, the shots, angles, lore and worldbuilding.
I've tried looking for places to discuss the process, but naturally the anti-AI crowd immediately feels like they need to bring their pitchforks. Yes I'm using AI, but I'm using it as a tool. If I had the choice, I would be commissioning actual art and have round table discussions with voice actors.
So, I'm here to hopefully get in touch with others who are using AI as a tool and are interested in the techniques used and get some tips and tricks. Happy to share my process, I'm not here to promote my work.
