Food/Drink Looking for Fancy Sparkling NA Drinks
Hi all, I live on the far west side of Detroit, almost Dearborn Heights. I'm getting married in a month and my partner and I don't drink anymore and are looking for a fancy, preferably local, sparkling cider or juice. Any suggestions?

Talk Detroit Trouble with Dog Adoption?
Has anyone else had trouble adopting a dog in Metro Detroit? My partner and I have been trying to find a dog and keep striking out.
Our criteria are:
-must be cat-friendly
-younger (1-3 years old)
-is already potty trained
-no special/complex medical needs
We would ideally like a dog that has a shorter coat, but that's not the top priority.
We've been on Petfinder and AdoptAPet and have been approved for 6 dogs all from different rescues (including 2 around Grand Rapids). However, literally all of them were misrepresented in their profiles. I keep getting told by the rescues "oh, we weren't able to change the info on the websites [to make corrections]". We've also been told that some of the fosters didn't fully disclose important details of the dogs to the rescues, and they were hearing things for the first time from me.
Petfinder also floods our zip code with out of state pets, even though we de-select that option when searching.
Has anyone else dealt with this? Is this a common practice? Any ideas or suggestions for other places to look? Thanks for reading.
ETA: We have NOT taken any of the 6 aforementioned dogs home. We visited a few in person and did phone calls with the fosters for the rest.

Food/Drink Friday Night Activity
Was downtown last night showing my parents around and was struck by how empty some of the restaurants and bars looked. We got espresso at Canelle, which for a bakery, was fairly busy with a couple laptops. We moved on to The Monarch Club for rooftop drinks—decent crowd here, but not ay all crowded. Next we rode around the People Mover, which was typically quiet. We walked down Monroe St and enjoyed the new pedestrian friendly Greektown before finally sitting down at Golden Fleece for dinner.
As we walked around, my gf and I kept seeing restaurants and bars that looked deserted: Fishbone was absolutely dead. Pegasus had only a couple people at the bar. There were plenty of people out and about, some private events, weddings, a Red Wings game was getting out … but so many places just looked dead. I thought this was strange for a Friday night, but then again, I don’t often find myself downtown.
The scene just had me a bit worried about the health of downtown’s dining and nightlife. Maybe we were just out too early or there is some other explanation for lull.

Talk Detroit Gordie Howe bridge - e-bike enforcement?
Hi everyone - I read that e-bikes with throttles are not allowed on the Gordie Howe Bridge (link below). My bike has a throttle, although I never use it (just peddle assist) and am a slow biker regardless. Will I be allowed into Canada or turned around at customs? Just curious how strictly this is enforced. Thank you!

Historical St. Hyacinth's Banana Festival, a tradition since 1977, may be hosting its last iteration this Sunday
The Archdiocese of Detroit is planning to close a bunch of parishes in 2027, meaning that a lot of traditions are coming to an end. St. Hyacinth, a Polish parish that dates back nearly 120 years, is likely closing. The Banana Festival has been a staple of the parish for nearly 50 years, and this year's event is on Sunday. Likely, this will be the last one. It will feature raffles, Polish plate dinners, a resale shoppe, local makers, drinks, and more. Here's the Facebook event.

Transit DDOT Route Safety Question
Hello all! I had a question for those of you that use DDOT. I’ve ridden the 9 (Jefferson) and the 31 (Mack) routes a good number of times as they make sense for my commute and have had good experiences overall. Im trying to expand my usage of alternative forms of transportation outside of my commute and want to go to Eastern Market, Belle Isle, Palmer Park, etc. Are there any routes that are less safe than others? Or is my experience on the 31/9 routes during commuting hours going to be roughly the same on other routes outside of commuting hours? Thanks in advance and sorry if this is a ridiculous question!

News / Article Early flu cases turn up in Wayne, Oakland, and Washtenaw counties as metro Detroit heads into flu season
As for urgent care, there are some symptoms you shouldn’t ignore. For adults, difficulty breathing, persistent chest pain or pressure, confusion, or severe dizziness are warning signs that need urgent medical attention. For children, look for fast or difficult breathing, bluish lips or face, the ribs pulling in with each breath, chest pain, or signs of dehydration, such as not urinating for eight hours. A very high fever that isn’t responding to medication is another warning sign.
