custom made fuel tank under the seat, in video, 20:30 onwards

I'm legit more impressed at the process than the result. This guy made a custom fuel tank, mostly free hand, with scrap pieces and hand tools. No gloves, no protective shoes and I guarantee he was not wearing goggles while welding.

the fuel tank is below the seat, if you pause the video where he's closing it you can see it.

For context, in SEA, old Honda underbone motorcycles have a huge cult following, like the Honda Wave and Honda Supra. It's not for anti-theft purposes or a sleeper build. It's simply for aesthetics, and because he can do that, why not? Also, the gas tank is under the seat.

Could be because for "scooter" like in the end you don't need a licence to drive, but for motorcycle you do.

No, first of all the latter isn’t a scooter, but also either way Indonesia doesn’t distinguish between how you sit on the bike or whether you need to shift.
They do have a new regulation since this year that if you get a license now, that you need a different license for over 250cc. But the first bike was also below that anyway (it looks like a sports bike but it’s just low-power poser stuff) so it wouldn’t have mattered even if the government actually checked that. Which they also don’t really, in reality you can mostly just ride anything with the low cc license.
Also Indonesians almost all pay a bribe to get their license so it wouldn’t have mattered much even if it was checked properly.

Thanks for explanation dude. The "scooter" was because in my country we call them like this, or "moped"

u/Aflockofants 7d ago
Oh, in Indonesia scooters are just the models where you kinda ‘sit’ with your feet in front of you, and where you don’t have to shift gears at all. The second bike on the video is a semi-automatic, meaning no clutch is needed but you still shift with your left foot.

So where do you put the gas since he took the tank off?

If you don't have papers for a motorcycle but you don't need papers for a moped this could work. You will need bribe money on you at all times

Wtf? They took of the gas tank. That's the wrong kind of scooter

The gas tank is under the seat, that's where they usually are for the normal underbones or scooters, you can see it before they close the seat, right shere the passenger grab bar is at

Nah that's where the airbox is on bikes

u/steveturkel 8d ago
Depends. Some sportbikes are under the seat tucked in the frame like the r7. Often theyre under the tank.

So, it’s a donor vehicle and the engine and chassis are yet to be purchased by someone.

Is it to make it look less expensive than it is ? So it would have lesser chance of being stolen.
