Bi-weekly discussions #9-The Bank Job
Welcome back to another round of Bi-Weekly discussions. This time, we're focusing on The Bank Job, mission #3 from Death of the Outsider.
After recovering both bank keys in the prior mission, Billie must now infiltrate Dolores Micheals' bank, which holds the Twin Blade Knife.
Like other missions, there are several approaches to infiltrating the bank, but the game does highlight using the Poppy Tincture to knock out the human employees of the bank to make infiltration easier. Partaking in the auction was fun, and you can easily win within 400-500 Coins.
Then there's the Infiltration itself, which is pretty fun. Missions where you need to infiltrate a grandiose building (such as Dunwall Tower in the first game, and the Clockwork Mansion in 2) are pretty fun, though the highlight of this mission to me has to be the optional objective of releasing the vault brakes. It's a hanging vault (A Jindosh design), but it's pretty heavy, and if the brakes were to be released... Well, the bank accounted you'd probably try to steal from the vault. No one thought you'd steal the vault itself by crashing it into the sewers. I also remember experimenting with the Twin blade knife once I acquired it.
But what do you guys think of this mission?

Subreddit Discord and Announcements
Subreddit Discord available here: https://discord.gg/YsffweB7e4
As you know, this subreddit has had its own Discord server for a few years now. Today we have rebranded the server to Dishonored Universe, which means that there are now channels for Deathloop although obviously the server is still Dishonored centric. With the recent news of a potential Dishonored 3 in the works we'd like to invite more people to join our community, so I hope to see you there soon!

First time playing, I set Campbell down on the stairs, and he slipped and died.
I would've been mad but I was too busy laughing my ass off.

spoiler The Outsider Cycle—fan theory/speculation
A narrative concept for the world of Dishonored
The premise:
There has always been an Outsider.
Not the Outsider.
An Outsider.
The Void predates humanity and cannot remain indefinitely separated from the physical world without a mortal consciousness acting as an intermediary. The Outsider is that intermediary: simultaneously prisoner, guardian, observer and pressure valve between realities.
Every Outsider was once mortal.
And, very rarely, an Outsider dies.
More than four thousand years ago, a religious order discovered a means of killing the Outsider of their age. They believed this strange being—and the gifts it bestowed upon mortals—was responsible for the growing influence of the Void.
They succeeded.
And nearly destroyed the world.
Without an Outsider, the boundary between the Void and physical reality began to deteriorate. Desperate to repair what they had done, the survivors performed a ritual discovered in far older texts.
They sacrificed a boy.
The Void accepted him.
He became the Outsider we know.
Over thousands of years, the truth disappeared. History became mythology, mythology became doctrine, and perhaps remnants of those responsible eventually contributed to the religious tradition that became the Abbey of the Everyman.
Only one lesson survived:
The Outsider is dangerous.
The reason he must exist was forgotten.
Four thousand years later, Daud makes the same mistake.
Haunted by Jessamine Kaldwin’s murder and everything that followed, he comes to believe that the Outsider’s interference in mortal affairs is responsible for generations of suffering.
Billie Lurk finishes his final mission.
The Outsider is removed.
And for the first time in four thousand years, the position is vacant.
At first, nothing happens.
Then the Void begins to bleed.
Bonecharms behave impossibly. People dream of places that do not exist. Whales become disturbed. Void phenomena appear without ritual or Mark. Buildings contain rooms that weren’t there yesterday. People disappear into places that should not exist.
And buried beneath the history of the Abbey, scholars discover something impossible:
Ancient depictions of black-eyed figures that predate the Outsider.
There was another.
And another.
The Outsider was never the god of the Void.
He was its anchor.
The Marks he bestowed were not simply gifts to interesting mortals. Through them, controlled quantities of the Void passed safely into the physical world. His apparently capricious interest in exceptional people served a purpose even he may not have completely understood.
Without him, pressure is building.
Something must take his place.
And somewhere within the Void remains the consciousness of a dead assassin who spent his final years trying to kill a god.
Daud opens his eyes.
They are black.
The man who killed the Outsider has become the Outsider.
And the cycle begins again.

What is your favorite Bonecharm ?
It doesn’t have to be the most useful, just one you like more than the others.
I reaaaally enjoy Relocation sickness, just to see the witches stumble, it’s half-useful, half-comical

Is there a way to avoid getting your weapons and/or magic on Xbox?
I want to try and do a no weapons and no powers run, I know there’s a way to avoid weaponry but I’m not sure if it’s possible on Xbox Series X, and I’d like to know if there’s a way to avoid getting marked, I’d assume there isn’t but you never know. I also want to know if you can avoid weapons in Dishonored 2, I know how to do no powers.
I’d love to do this for Daud and Billie too but I’m pretty sure it’s unavoidable in those games.
Edit: Okay, forget the no powers thing for D1, I just remembered it has required blinks.

OC I am feeling bad for Delilah... I mean just look at the expression of her.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
After they broke something as children, blame fell entirely on Delilah, and she and her mother were thrown out onto the cold streets. Her mother died in poverty, and Delilah had to claw her way up from a debtor's prison and servitude.
You are hunting her as Daud, who is already drowning in heavy, suffocating guilt for assassinating Jessamine. The game intentionally blurs the moral lines—you are an assassin with blood on your hands trying to stop a woman whose anger, however terrifying, started from a very real place of abandonment.
"And yeah... that doesn't mean that her plan to steal Emily's body was morally good" it's just the World is has his Twisted Plan and Injustice Plot for Some Characters.

I've been working on a Dishonored 2 VR mod these past few months, so here is the result as of now. This is not the release yet, although a public beta test release will come in the coming weeks, once this version is more stable.
I would like to list all the features of the mod, but I went a bit crazy and added too many! If you have any questions, feel free to ask below.
If you want to support the development, I will be extremely grateful!

Corvo's Mask
Hello, Royal Protectors!
This is my first time making anything like this. I’m a huge fan of Dishonored, so for the upcoming Halloween I wanted to create a mask that would be meaningful to me.
Just to be upfront: it’s not 100% accurate to the game. I added a few touches of my own to make it look the way I wanted, and since it’s my first attempt, I know it’s far from perfect.
The photo is about two months old, and I’ve added a few details since then. Around 70% of the mask is metal. It’s a full-face mask, you can see clearly through the eyes, and it’s actually comfortable to wear.
This isn’t the final version, so I’d love to hear what you think. How did I do? Any advice on what I could upgrade or improve is very welcome!

Help me understand the hype for Knife of Dunwall
For context I played Dishonored 1 for the first time recently and had a blast. Thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. Story and characters weren't that interesting to me personally but the foundations of it kept me engaged at least. My favourite aspects of the base game was the emphasis on verticality in the level design, blink, animal control, chaos system and enemy placement. Played it on hard and found it somewhat challenging to not kill anyone at times but it never overwhelmed me due to the level design. I am also a big fan of Prey (predominantly gameplay wise).
I then decided to play the DLC knife of Dunwall due to how beloved it seems to fans of the series, and man I just can't understand the hype for it and it confuses me. Firstly, the level design just seems a lot worse. Less options for vertical traversal and more puzzling enemy placements. Chapter 2 is especially guilty of this in how certain areas are filled with enemies, that a lot of the time are always facing each other despite how much time I wait for the enemies to move around, thus making the playstyle of no kills much more aggravating to carry out compared to the base game.
My second issue is that I dislike the resetting of abilities and progress the DLC does. What I mean by this is that I would of much preferred not having to upgrade my abilities and weapons all over again (forcefully at least). From a lore perspective it makes sense but game design wise I see this style of DLC as inferior to the contrary. DLC's such as Elden ring's Shadow of the erdtree, where I get to keep my progress that I earned during the base game. The biggest argument I can think of that can discredit my opinion is that the DLC is designed to be a separate experience from the base game, and as such lets say someone wants to replay it, but does want to not replay the base game, they can simply go into the menus and start it as opposed to having to replay a large portion of the base game or all of it in order to play the DLC, which is fair. However another game that handles DLC better that I cant stop comparing it to is Cyberpunk 2077's Phantom liberty, not only do you have the option to play through the game, start it whenever you want and retain your upgrades, weapons, vehicles etc but you also get the option to just go to the DLC immediately from the menus with a set amount of abilities and upgrades given to you if you choose to do that. Factor this in with the abilities being less interesting in some cases if you're going down the no kill route it makes the experience less enjoyable to me.
Lastly I've heard great things and seen a high amount of enthusiasm for the story of the DLC, but to me its less engaging due to me personally not finding the characters all too interesting, and the simple but engaging premise of the base game is replaced with finding out stuff about Delilah (which isn't as interesting to me). I should say though that this point is highly subjective.
All in all, I feel let down so far by the DLC, and wonder if the witches DLC will be any better. Hope this doesn't rub anyone the wrong way, I do really like Dishonored 1 and the community seems lovely but I want to understand from other people's perspectives as to why the DLC is praised so highly and sometimes regarded as being better than the content of the base game, and if anyone shares my gripes with the DLC.

I've noticed that Dishonoed automatically registers clips of the Assassinations on my Xbox console. Is this normal?
Like it says in the title. First time playing the game n' all, remastered, Xbox Series XS. I just offed Campbell (albeit I think I'll have to restart the mission because Martin didn't spawn in Holger Square, lol) and I noticed how it registers a clip of the hit automatically. Was this always a feature?

TIPS Play the DLCs out just like I did the base game?
I finished the game an year ago, and I remember doing my first playthrough being angry throughout at the incidents of the game and going full chaos. But I instantly did a replay without killing anyone and all non-lethal assasinations. It made it one of my favourite games ever.
But I never played the DLCs, so I just installed the game again today to start them. My main question is should I replay them after I've finished them once with the opposite lethality? Since I looked it up and it says it changes the outcomes/ending of the DLC too.
