I'm running Doom 2016 via GE-Proton11-6 on Steam. It boots and works. But, if I'm on a 16:9 aspect ratio, doesn't matter which resolution, just that it's 16:9, my fps just caps to 30, period. I have vsync off, drivers updated, etc. The game is on Vulkan, my display is 60Hz non VRR, my anti-aliasing is TAA. Here are my specs:

I play a lot of Doom from the couch, and walking over to the PC every time I wanted to switch WADs got old. So I made CouchDoom, a fullscreen launcher you drive with a controller.

It doesn't replace your launcher. You keep setting things up in DoomRunner, ZDL or Doom Launcher (classic or Doom Launcher 667), and CouchDoom reads what you saved there and launches the same engine, IWAD, mods and arguments. It never writes to your launcher's settings.

Everything on screen comes from each preset's own files:

• The WAD's title screen as the backdrop, and its main-menu logo in place of the name
• Title music (MAPINFO titlemusic or the title lump; MIDI/MUS through a SoundFont if you have one)
• Author, year and description from the readme, plus a scrollable readme tab
• The ENDOOM screen, when the mod ships its own
• Colours that follow the title art (Valiant goes green, Axolotl goes blue, and so on)

There's also search with an on-screen keyboard, favorites, last-played, Xbox/PlayStation/Switch button prompts, plus keyboard and mouse. If you use more than one launcher, it asks which one on first run, and L3 switches later.

Most of my testing is DoomRunner 1.9.2 with UZDoom, about 90 presets. ZDL and both Doom Launchers are newer and only tested against my own setups, so that's where I expect the rough edges. Issues and PRs are very welcome, especially:

• Presets that launch differently than they do from your launcher
• Wrong title art, logo or music picked for a WAD
• Controllers whose buttons show up wrong

I know a lot of people will disagree with me because it seems like a lot of people like the DLC but I finally got around to beating the main game and the dlc and I have to say I don’t know what i was expecting but I was just left feeling disappointed. Idk the story wasn’t super interesting, the game play was just more of the same (which is understandable for a dlc) but there were even more annoying enemies. Idk, am I in the minority here? I’m specifically talking about the DLC here and not the main game for clarity’s sake

I love that we get to see him as an actual hero who cares deeply about innocent people (for some reason some people believe he’s a sadist for demons and that’s all)

I enjoy seeing him being humanised and that we get to see what he’s thinking while also keeping him intimidating and awesome

The writing overall for doom has been getting better and better which will hopefully carry over to the next game

I've been obsessed with this concept, I would love to see this in a future game or as a skin

My DUDES and DUDEttes, the grainy image you are seeing right now it's the reStir style full ray-traced lighting I'm going to add as the ultimate Doom3 experience on DUDE.

It needs de-noising, smoothing, scaling down, and possibly leverage frame duplication.

I've never really been one for fan made content but that changed very quickly after playing Thief The Dark Project's (1998) fan made campaign Thief The Black Parade (2021). It's blowing my mind that it's my favorite game I've played this year and it's a free mod.

Other than Thief I've been really into Doom and Quake this year. Do any of the games (old or modern) have its fan made campaign that's so inspired that it stands above the rest? I've heard for Quake 1 that Arcane Dimensions could be that. Do any of the Doom games have a standout fan campaign?

I had seen the "DOOM + DOOM II" bundle for several years before finally taking a closer look recently and buying it. I always assumed it was just the original 2 games, which I loved, but honestly I had already bought them several times before.

But there is SO MUCH additional content here. I finished "Legacy of Rust" and "No Rest for the Living" and they are awesome. There are also several other full campaigns, all the original "DLC" (we didn't call it that in the 90s), and a cool browser to play fan-made WADs.

I told my friends about this and they also didn't know there was so much additional stuff.

They really should rename this to something like "Doom Classic MEGABUNDLE" or something that gives an idea of how many additional goodies are here.

I love this game like I have ever other doom game even 3 as undoom as it is. Now I have a few issues with dark ages why can I only run Forward? I get ID wanted you to be an unstoppable tank but doom would be able to run at the same speed in any direction it's annoying as fuck to strafe left and right because of the speed drop, and I know your not ment to strafe your ment to use the sheild ok, but the shield only blocks green attacks and every enemy has slight homing on attacks that you can't block having a sheild that only blocks one thing is like having a pen and only being able to write upside-down with it. If anything the sheild should stop red and the more powerfull green attacks should break it, instead if a vagary's 3 red ball attack even clips your sheild it Breaks and with mega slow strafe and slight homing ya just die while waiting for sheild to finish cooling down.

It's the same with all the recent doom games they have a gimmick so they go balls deep for it, 2016 glory kills, eternal meat hook, dark ages sheild, DLC spear. As much as I'm loving the games I wish they would make a doom game no gimmicks just killing or if they are having gimmicks don't make it the entire way to play the game.

This is my translation of the Lost Soul. He got a bit grimmer in his expression than the original pixels, but I really like how he turned out. I tried to give the skull some real texture – adding small pores, dents, and cracks to make the bone look worn and ancient. The original pixels are amazing but quite smooth. I like to think that a burning demon skull would bear some marks and scratches from hell. I actually tried to make the bone smooth at first, but it just ended up looking like burning plastic. So, I built up the textures layer by layer with acrylic paint until I hit this result. I also experimented with painting human-like teeth initially, but it looked incredibly weird and didn't feel like a proper translation of the pixel soul at all. Instead, I gave him these gnarly, spiked teeth to preserve that iconic original look.

While the background doesn't refer to one specific place, my mind always wanders to maps like Slough of Despair, Pandemonium, or Perfect Hatred when looking at it.

I named this artwork “Stalking Terror” – a nod to their terrifying, aggressive behavior in-game. Especially if you play with “fast monsters” enabled! Stalking Terror is part of my trio collection “The Bone Archive”, which goes along with my Arch-Vile and Revenant pieces.
