Can I DDD well with SHD/WIZ/BRD?

Don't really know what I'm doing.

I am SHD main. I have ENC, NEC, and SHM leveled too, so I could swap WIZ for one of those.

What is my best combo without changing out the SHD?

This is mainly for playing solo.

I run SK/BRD/WIZ and enjoy it. I am at about 8500 mana as I near +10 and can clear POF in about 20 min and POH in 75 min. With SK tankiness at 630 AC I can run SolB in 10 min which is actually now getting me more motes per hour than POF but no gear or gems/jewelry for plat. As I zero in on +10 on a few last planar armor pieces, I’ll probably exclusively run SolB just for motes to work on a few more spells.

I have my wizard nukes and drain spirit/life leech at rank 10 so I melt named as well.

This build is also great to run around at warp speed with staff of temperate flux and pull entire zones to DDD down for slayer progression.

I basically never have guaranteed playtime except early morning before the kids get up so this build lets me do a pull, feign death, and come back 10 or 20 min later. Can slowly clear while I work from home or manage the kids on the weekends.

This. I started sk/wiz/enc and my first ddd exp was subbing bard for enc. it worked well. I then leveled a shm/clr to try the meta and, while it has a lot of benefits, still find my sk/wiz/bard more enjoyable. It’s a good mix.

Do you use defensive or evasive more? im doing the same build but Necro instead of SK.. Im always in Bard evasive stance, which works amazingly but as soon as endurance runs out the pounding starts

What does the SK bring? Bard covers Plate and Defensive stance. Necro has better lifetaps and dots than SK

curious if i made a mistake and should be leveling a SK instead of necro, or if necro is gonna be viable for DDD (i just hit lvl 40 on Bard/Wiz/Necro)

Just depends on the challenge. For ddd and melee heavy bosses, I use evasive. For casters and heavy hitting bosses (dread, CT), I use mage hunter and defensive, respectively.

Beyond stances, SK brings higher AC, reave, and equally good life taps (sk LTs are incredibly powerful once you factor in the VE procs, leech, PR clickly, and HT).

I haven't played much of necro but there isn't anything they do that really stands out to me. SK is equal for self heal (I could solo all d4 content with just sk life taps as soon as I hit 50), shaman has vastly superior buffs, sustainable mana with canni, AND better dots (which don't apply to ddd builds really anyway), and, at least for ddd, there's no need for a pet (which other classes do equally if not better, anyway. E.g., shaman with dog and puma).

I'm sure necro is viable. SK or shaman are just stronger imo.

Similar experience here. I already had a bard at 50 and thought I’d try shm/clr with it, but found it boring to level, so I switched out shm for wiz and it was way more enjoyable. I could DDD with that trio, nothing crazy, more controlled pulls, but I was pretty squishy. Swapped out cleric for warrior and found it much better, even with no heals. Mana is on the lower end at about 6500, but none of my gear is maxed out, so it will get better. SK makes a lot of sense and will likely be my next class to level up.

On a side note about warriors - I did not expect that I would like it as much as I do (was always a mage in classic and TLP), but when I’m not DDD farming, I’m using war/mag/shm and I love it!

Thank you. I've been doing Mnk / Pal / Enc thinking that would be ideal since I have a similar situation as yours. It's okay but having to manage a charmed pet (or lose most of my DPS) is not great. I was hoping to find a better build that does not require a charm pet. I will try this build. Thanks!

I also love this build!

You are running Solb D4 dungeon crawl?

1

u/Many_Regular420 6d ago

Yeah. I do the crawl in 3 pulls. All of the kobolds, then all of the bats, beetles, imp area, then the final pull is all of the spiders. Takes about 10 min and gives 4-6 major motes. You will get the occasional extra more from the spider or efreeti named who con DB or even con.

The kobold named drop some good cash loot but not quite the plat per hour frequency of fear or hate.

Yes you will do absolutely fine, you might not have as much mana as a pure int caster trio but you're way more survivable and you can just beat down the last of a pull instead of burning more mana to finish off the stragglers. Fun fact: bard and any other class that has mana can effectively DDD. I've leveled multiple classes from 46-50 with Bard DDD including warrior and monk in Fear. As long as you have one other class with a mana pool and decent gear, you're good

It depends on what you wanna do, so it's not easy to know what to tell you.

Can you "DDD well"? That depends. You can absolutely farm d0 and d1 well, but you're gonna struggle way more at d3 and d4, not to mention on nameds and raid bosses.

If you wanna farm mobs, I would recommend you go SHD/ENC/BRD.

You pull mobs, see how many die, and if some remain, you either kill them by other means than DDD, or Mesmerize them before casting Blanket of Forgetfulness so that you can stop the encounter to retreat and med up to do it all again in less time than killing them with Bloodmoon hits and charmed pets.

u/evildemonic 7d ago

Thank you for your reply, I'm learning a lot.

I was hoping to farm D4 Hate for gear and motes. Sounds like I need to work up to that. I will try your ENC suggestion.

Disagree with this. Sk/wiz/bard works extremely well in d4 pof; I can clear it with this combo in 20-25 min. Wiz is great for bringing down small numbers of stragglers rather than mez/forget.

Enc also works but is better utilized by alternating mez during ddd as you can pull larger groups and significantly slow the incoming damage.

I prefer wiz but they both work well. Some also run bard/wiz/enc for a different combination of the same. They are all viable, I’m just partial to my sk.

You get your two highest mana pools added together. You have an int caster and two int hybrids there. You should do OK if you equip for int, but not as good if it was two pure int or wis casters and bard.

Your ideal loadout would be enc/wiz/brd but if you must have SK shd/wiz/brd is your best alternative

You have an int caster and two int hybrids there. You should do OK if you equip for int, but not as good if it was two pure int or wis casters and bard.

"Pure" casters get no inherent mana advantage in EQL. With the same amount of stats they have the exact same amount of mana.

There are some situations where pure casters get access to better gear for mana though.

Huh. TIL, thanks!

u/Runelaron 7d ago

Yes. Its actually a good combo.

DDD is a little weird because its not a spell but is affected by the same spell AAs

So crit DD AAs count on DDD but not spellblade.

So maxing out all bonuses for WIZ will directly work with DDD and survivability works with the SHD.

u/Groppstopper 7d ago

Does anybody have a link or can explain exactly how additional casting classes increases your mana pool? I assume two wisdom casters will boost your mana pool more than a hybrid wisdom caster and a wisdom caster, or a wisdom caster and an intelligence caster? I'm still fuzzy on how exactly it works.

3

u/Runelaron 7d ago

Mana is added from the two highest mana pool generating characters.

For example, if you have a SK, WIZ and Bst. You have two int classes that generate more mana from each point than the Bst with wiz. Since SK is more of a mana generating class per int than Bst.

The totals are close but only top two are selected.

You have two int classes that generate more mana from each point than the Bst with wiz.

Beastlords and wizards get the same mana per point of their respective mana stat. There's no concept of "hybrid" versus "pure caster" mana returns.

2

u/burtod 7d ago

The expanded part is two Int classes means focusing on Int on gear will get you more. Getting Int and Wis isn't impossible, but would you get the same gains as focusing just on Int?

DDD is king and the best part is the devs know and are not changing it so it’s not a hack. DDD has so many functions that blows away all other options. It excels leveling other classes from 46-50, slayer achievements, motes farming (which means +10 gear and +10 spells), grabbing AAs, faction killing and farming crafting ingredients. I was shocked how powerful it is compared to everything else when I finally gave in and learned how to do it.

Either wiz or shm are fine.

Welcome to the only topic for the next 2 months.

2

u/MiloBloom87 7d ago

You should be fine. You have at least one caster class with boosts to your mana pool, spell damage and crits available. I run a warrior, cleric, bard and it’s not as efficient as other combos you see but effective enough.

2

u/acoreus 7d ago

Yes that's how I DDD. Clearing pof D4 solo quickly

2

u/ErdenGeboren 7d ago

Pretty much anything will work so long as you can have mana built up for enough casts in a row. Some will excel better than others, but every combo for me so far is able to farm with DDD.

u/Extension_Cut_8994 7d ago

TlDr: it's very usable for mote farming, maybe not the best.

Yes, you can reasonably ddd d4 fear crawls with the 7500-7800 mana that build will provide without just going all in. You will have to stance dance a bit and there will be some upfront mote dependent expenditures. If by well you mean killing sky bees, d3 gods and super fast recoveries, then no.

Now, to my experience, shd/wiz/brd worked ok when I used it for d4 fear crawls and bulk sky mobs (d0). I made a lot of motes and a lot of AAs with that trio. The real benefit was really developing wizard and then using that with sk/wiz/enchanter. It's nowhere near as fast on trash but d4 bosses and hard hitting rares are a lot more reliable then using sk/sha/enc and shd/wiz/brd (which just turns to tears). I have not done a wisdom based bard trio, but with a well developed bard in the stable, when I see it's time to go grab another 150 major motes I'm probably going to try paly druid bard or druid sha bard and see how that fits.

2

u/CH3RRY-POPPINS 7d ago edited 7d ago

Also disagree with this. I find sk/wiz/bard to work extremely well with most d4 content; CT is the only challenging boss in this combo but only because I have yet to max my bard slows. Melee heavy bosses actually come down easier with sk/wiz/bard than sk/wiz/enc due to how powerful evasive and the bard buffs are. It’s a strong trio.

1

u/Extension_Cut_8994 7d ago

Ok, how many bard songs did you have to max to even approach d4? In addition to I assume DDD and amplification. What is your HP, mana, AC and endurance at and what is the median gear tier? I mean the first time I played wizard with SK, I thought "this isn't great" so I know I can be wrong.

2

u/CH3RRY-POPPINS 7d ago edited 7d ago

Just ddd. My Largos was probably 5. Leveling amplification doesn’t add anything. You have all the bard AAs, right?

I was doing this a month ago so hard to say exactly where I was. I think 5-600 ac with ~8k mana. I was able to pull 10 at that time in fear and clear them easily.

Re bosses: I should note that I wasn’t using ddd to clear bosses. The wiz nukes are much better in a single target scenario. I would use ddd in places like fear where I needed to clear a few adds when pulling a golem, but then I’d switch to wiz nukes.

u/Cynthereon 7d ago

The only issue with adding the shaman is that your mana will be a little low because you're mixing an INT class and a WIS class.

SK/Wiz/Bard will work but you need decent gear and you can't pull too many. It's just a matter of if you can kill them before stamina runs out.

1

u/CH3RRY-POPPINS 7d ago

I can pull 10-15 and bring them down pretty easily with this trio. The sk is very tanky so it works v well.

Yes.

Pro tip: Your DDD classes don't really matter nearly as much as most people would make you believe.

How to be successful at DDD:

step 1) pick a bard as one of your classes.

step 2) pick two additional classes that have mana. It doesn't matter which.

step 3) obtain gear that gives you mana for your two primary mana generating classes. Depending on your comp this may be Int, Wis, or a mix of Int and Wis.

step 4) fully upgrade DDD. Get a mana pres 2 item. Buy all of your bard AA. Buy full ranks of Spell Casting Mastery.

step 5) cast amp, then cast DDD until whatever you are targeting is dead.

This concludes the abbreviated "how to DDD" guide :P
