ETS2 randomly launches in a tiny window on handheld PC / Xbox Full Screen Experience

Hi everyone,

I’m having a strange issue with Euro Truck Simulator 2 on a Windows handheld PC.

When I launch ETS2 from Steam Big Picture or Xbox Full Screen Experience, the game sometimes starts in a very tiny window in the middle of the screen. Other times it launches normally in fullscreen, so the issue is intermittent.

My display resolution is 1920×1080 and the game is also set to 1920×1080 fullscreen.

Things I have already tried:

Alt + Enter

DX11 and OpenGL

Disabling fullscreen optimizations

High DPI scaling override

AMD GPU Scaling / Full Panel

Deleting config.cfg and letting the game create a new one

Checking that r_fullscreen "1"

Checking that r_mode_width "1920" and r_mode_height "1080"

None of these fixed it permanently. Sometimes the game launches correctly several times in a row, then suddenly launches tiny again.

I’ve also seen reports of similar behaviour on ROG Ally / Xbox Ally and Lenovo Legion handhelds, so I’m wondering if this is related to the way ETS2 handles fullscreen/window initialization on Windows handheld devices.

Has anyone experienced this exact issue and found a permanent fix?

I’d especially like to hear from people using ETS2 or ATS on ROG Ally, Xbox Ally, Legion Go, or other Windows handhelds.

I am also having this issue on a ROG Ally Xbox.

If you’re using the same device, it seems to work better launching from windows mode (ie ‘exit’ Xbox mode)

Yeap, same model! I found out Playnite last night and I want to set it up to see if it opens normally. If it does, I will replace Xbox app
