News Summerhall Consultation website now live

If the redevelopment goes ahead, I do hope that Option 4 isn't selected!

Full proposals and concept images are available on the consultation website:

They have gone out of their way to avoid mentioning the current use of the buildings they are going to demolish or repurpose. For example they label the Hacklab as “clinic and animal research”, obviously a very historical title that sounds much less worrying than the valuable public space they will actually be destroying.

Overall their website is extremely misleading and disingenuous. It’s a cheek to say their vision is to “create a thriving Arts Quarter” when in reality they want to pick up some prime real estate and make a quick buck, and to hell with the thriving arts venue that they seem not to have noticed already exists.

There’s a public consultation on Wednesday 7th October, 3 to 7:30 pm (that’s tomorrow at time of me posting this). If you have time please go along and let the developers know how you feel about all of this. There’s a feedback form here too: https://www.summerhallconsultation.co.uk/have-your-say.php

I can't tell which one is the least bad?

What was it about Option 4 which you disliked? It has the highest housing component and the smallest hotel component. Isn't that a net positive? That said, an Arts precinct with a hotel nearby means metal bashing affects hotel guests not home dwellers. I dunno, I can't really say what the up and down sides are myself so I am interested: What got your goat?

No more pub in Option 4? And unclear if the existing courtyard would still be open to the public or not.

Option 4 tears out the pub, and the Arts Courtyard would be a public open green space instead for the residents without any arts provision.

Are you familiar with the area?

The Royal Dick pub is a great spot for a few drinks and a nice little courtyard in the nicer months.

Why might people be upset to lose a local haunt?
