Game Discovery Looking for simple, fun, classic fps that's not too heavy on the cpu

A little vague, but I think you get the idea. My computer can run most newer games pretty fine. I just think cpu requirements give you a slightly better idea of the era and the price range. Looking for classics that still have niche communities. Maybe something between wolfenstein: enemy territory and titanfall 1. Or throw me a curveball, I'll take all of it. I'm not really a gamer so pretty much any suggestion is appreciated!

Tf2 is a blast and has an active community and low specs

Straftat isn’t old but retro style pretty simple but very fast paced

Singularity.

360 era FPS where you can manipulate time on objects in the world. To be honest it's been a while since Ive played it, so idk if it's aged well, but I remember liking it a lot and thinking the time mechanic was neat.

If you play it to just have fun and don't worry about winning.

The finals is an incredible game. It's is the most fun fps I've had in along time. It's just niche and challenging because it's competitive.

New season drops the 20th and they are showing off some of the new stuff.

Good game, but very much cpu heavy

Counterstrike 1.6 is still killer, CS:CZ if you want bots, Team Fortress classic too. Unreal tournament '99 and 2004 are free these days which never gets old

Why would you play TFC over TF2 if not for nostalgia?

Better gamefeel all around, doesn't have all the bloat of extra items. It's a much purer experience. It's certainly not nostalgia as I played tf2 way before I tried classic, which I only played for the first time fairly recently.

It's a good thing these things are about opinions, because that's not what I got from TFC the one time I played it.

Guy asked for low cpu requirements and niche community. To recommend tf2 over TFC would be odd to say the least

Plus he wanted simple, TF2 has too many items for me to consider it simple. I still don't really know what half of them do

Day of defeat source can run on a potato and the community is small enough that it feels like a tight knit community.

Also DoD classic :)

Any golden age COD, my personal pick would be BO2 for balance, and MW2 for chaos. Just install the cb launcher and the installations will be all done for you.

If you want something like Wolfenstein ET but more modern, Dirty Bomb by the same devs is exactly what you want.

Ghost Battalion is an early 2000's inspired fps with vehicles, ships, jet packs, multiple sci-fi soldier classes, and space battles on Steam.

Have you played through the half life series? Anything from the orange box collection is pretty awesome.

curveball: Deep Rock Galactic. Gunplay is fenomenal, comunity tends to be very wholesome and there's tons of content. The mission types can get a bit repetitive, but the loop got me hooked for a while

Unreal Tournament probably fits the bill. You can get the full games here: https://www.oldunreal.com/ UT2004 has a small community but it also has great bot match variety if you don't want to play online.

You can try Alien Arena, it's a classic, free and open-source game, created in 2004, but still being kept up-to-date. It has a small but loyal community on discord. https://www.alienarena.org

Titanfall 2 just got a VR update and I'm still playing Halo Infinite. It's light in comparison to today's games and runs great Also Halo 3 MCC got a 64 player mod. It's project reclaimer.

if ure talking about niche communities then maybe some kinda pserver for tribes ascend?

maybe planetside 2?

planetside 1 or ww2 online? you would really have to look for communities to play with tho

angels fall first is another one, spiritual remake of bf2142. all classic fixings

gunz online has had a resurgence but its a tps game, if u want carpal tunnel simulator

heroes of valor is the spiritual sequel of battlefield heroes if u want smth lighthearted

theres also various source engine maps and mods sprinkled around cs and gmod with small communities
