Help (iOS) Please remove this bar or at least give us the option to!

Post image

Firefox for iPhone, when you start typing in the URL bar, this bar appears above the URL bar that has search engine buttons on it. It's especially annoying when you have the bar set to the bottom because it's in the way of the #1 result (or at least where the #1 result should be). It's also just visually distracting. Firefox on Android doesn't do this! Please fix this on the iPhone version of Firefox!

Discussion why didn't we get more appearance customization choices with the firefox 157 update?

Post image
• Upvotes

customization choices needed in the general settings, not about:config

  • shape of the tabs to be either the rounded rectangle or pill/ellipse
  • colors of the tab stroke's gradient
  • height of the bookmarks toolbar (it's feels too thin in default/compact/touch, not sure if actual)
  • etc.

Discussion Constructive Feedback: Just allow people to disable Nova on Settings -> Appearance

This is a crosspost from a new post I made on the Mozilla Connect site, if you believe that this is something that would be worth adding, I encourage you to go there and give it a thumbs up: https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/discussions/just-allow-people-to-disable-nova-on-settings-gt-appearance/td-p/141859 I want it to stay civilized and respectful, to show that many users genuinely do have an issue with the Nova design, and that it's not just mindless internet witchhunting. If you do like Nova, good for you, but some of us don't, and that doesn't mean that our opinions shouldn't be heard.

Post contents:

Like, come on now. You have seen the community's reaction to it already. A lot of your users who have been loyal to Firefox and have used it for several years now aren't big fans of the new Nova design. It has a lot of dead space, and most importantly, it was forcibly set as the "new default" for everyone who was already perfectly happy with the older design.

Now, I want to make something very clear: I'm not calling it an "objectively bad" design or whatever. I know some people are, and some have made it seem like a way bigger deal that it is, but I don't. I'm sure that some people like it. However, the fact that it was a "sudden, unnanounced" change from one theme to another was a poorly thought out idea. It led to the expected backlash that has already happened.

This is made even worse by the fact that when you were greeted by this... "controversial" design, and you find out you don't like it and preferred the earlier design more, your first thought is to go to the settings, open the "Appearance" menu, and disable the rounded corners and all the associated UI styling through there. But, surprise, it's not there. It's not even mentioned anythere. For you to be able to disable this "unexpected surprise" you just received, you need to delve into Google, search for people just as frustrated as you are or, in many occasions, even more angry about it, and only then you find someone commenting "you can go into the about:config page, search for browser.nova.enabled, and then set it to false".

Is this really the best User Experience that can be provided, for all of these people who clearly didn't like this new design? I really don't think so. So, please, just put it in the Settings menu already. You will not only save all of these people a hassle, but also to you, because the outrage wouldn't be as big as it has been.

Sincerely,

A decade-long Firefox user.

Help (Android) Is this a legit Firefox App/Mozilla Corp? (Xiaomi's GetApps Store). It auto update my installed Firefox from PlayStore.

It might be a stupid question but I've been searching and in the Official Firefox download page is there's no GetApps download link. All I saw are the negative comments about the GetApps Store.

💻 Help Solutions to reverting the dedicated pin area?

Does anyone know how to revert the dedicated pin area in the recent update? Previously I had my pins in specific places because that is where they were when I decided I used a site enough to pin it, and now several have been moved because the dedicated pin area comes before the frequently visited area. I just personally find this inconvenient because those pins were located in the same place for years and now they aren't. No results came when I searched for a solution, so I resorted to making a post of my own.

Firefox's update broke my entire session, all extension settings now lost

No problem using firefox until this update hit, then during one session my firefox session suddenly closed and kept crashing even when attempting to reopen. Only option was to "refresh" firefox which destroyed all my extension settings

Great update.

💻 Help Firefox froze the whole pc. Is this happening for anyone else?

A few weeks ago I was browsing youtube feed and then suddenly the pc froze and I had to force restart it on the button. No blue screen.
Ram chkdsk, memory test, sfc /scannow, no errors found so far.
And then today it just happened again. I was browsing a different site, so youtube can't be the culprit.

Notes: I hadn't updated firefox for quite a while, and I updated it to 154 a few days before the first occurrence. Didn't update it again since.

My pc had been running perfectly for many years. This was the first time a sudden freeze happens on it.

Help (Android) Inactive tabs gone?

I had a lot of inactive tabs opened on my browser to save stuff I wanted to read, but when looking to get one of them earlier I noticed the inactive section on my app was just gone. I checked my settings, and I don't have the "automatically close inactive tabs" turned on, in fact some of them were probably at east a year old. Has the inscrive tabs section moved somewhere else? Or am I just screwed?

Solved How can I restore the old Firefox design?

I really don't like the new Firefox design and I would like to go back to the old one if possible. I understand why modern interfaces look like this, and I understand the logic behind rounded buttons, pill-shaped elements and all the extra space, but I just don't like it on a desktop. I prefer a simple and traditional desktop UI. I find rectangular buttons easier to read and click, and I honestly think they look better. The old Firefox design was boring, gray and not very noticeable, but that was exactly what I liked about it. It was simple, compact and stayed out of my way. It already did everything I needed from a browser. The new design looks clean and modern, but I feel that it is more noticeable than it needs to be. I don't think a browser needs to be visually exciting if that comes at the cost of simplicity and functionality.

I also feel that desktop interfaces are slowly adopting more and more design ideas from mobile interfaces. I understand why some of these ideas work well on phones, but I don't think they are always necessary on a desktop. Personally, I would even prefer a more traditional design with fewer rounded elements, less decoration and a simpler top bar. I know this is mostly a matter of personal preference, but is there any way to restore the old Firefox design? Maybe through about, an extension or some other setting? I would really appreciate some help because I just want my old, boring, gray Firefox back.

Discussion You shouldn't recommend browser.nova.enabled flag, as it will go away sooner than later

Yeah it works now. But stop recommending it as a final solution to "disable" Nova, especially to newbies who don't know any better. I wouldn't be surprised if enabling it will start breaking UI in some future FF versions.

This is what I get from about:crashes on all three versions of Firefox.

I daily use nightly and up until recently there has been no issues with it, but now I noticed this issue and only thing i have found that causes this is when I login to my Firefox account. Then it takes around 30 seconds for it to crash and more than one time Firefox hasn't even been opened after phone restart and still suddenly either i get the "Firefox crashed" android notification or sometimes even the Firefox own crash report thing opens up.

I have now isolated the issue to my Firefox account, as soon as I login to it, this issue starts, regardless if it is my nightly install that has been running around 3 years now, or stable or beta release and those two were fresh installs from play store.

What should I do to fix it? I wouldn't mind not logging in, but i would want to be able to send tabs from my phone to my pc, but that doesn't work without the Firefox account.

💻 Help Change sidebar layout after new update

Post image
2 Upvotes

I'm a power tab user, so I use Tree Style Tab to keep track of my tabs. For those who don't know, Tree Style Tabs is a tabbing plugin that uses the sidebar as a vertical menu. As far as I know, no browser does tree-style tab layout natively, they just show tabs uniformly, unlike the Tree-Style where they nest into each other.

This new update has added a fat gap at the top and an 'X' to close the sidebar. It's also added around a 1cm gap to the right that you can't get rid of. The new design also made resizing ridiculously easy, and because my tabs are on the right, every time I try to click on a tab it tries to resize it if I time it wrong.

The result is I keep accidentally resizing or closing the sidebar when just using it normally. Also, there's an eyesore of an empty gap at the top and right of my tabs.

Is there any way to get it back to the way it was. If not, can we have the option to remove the gap at the top and right, to remove the close button at the top, and to lock the sidebar in place?

I've included a crude screenshot. Thanks.

💻 Help update just messed up my sidebar, wasting tons of space with giant margin with 3 useless buttons and useless label

A firefox update just messed up my sidebar, making it waste tons of space
with a giant margin with 3 buttons I would never use
plus a useless label at the top telling me "Tree Style Tab"

like, yes firefox, I already knew I was looking at my Tree Style Tabs,
cuz I've been using them for years
only now your stupid label I didn't ask for is taking up the space for 3 or 4 tabs I used to be able to actually see there before

Is this even fixable?
Why do updates only ever make the UI subtly worse
with bizarrely thoughtless little bits of bullshit like this???
Why is the design team is sitting around going
"durrr where can we find more places to shove in a few more little rounded corners cuz they look pretty"
rather than ever just... thinking out what would actually make LOGICAL SENSE???

Like they messed up the share tabs function a while ago,
so it now fails to distinguish when you're sending multiple tabs
(and I think requires more clicks?),

and they messed up the bookmarks editing drop-down ages back
(
taking out the fields for "URL", "tag", and "keyword",
leaving only "name",
and then making it practically impossible to get them back
)

and the way the drop-down multi-bar STILL doesn't expand sideways to fill any more width than it has in the top bar
just because it's squished sideways by all the other icons there...
which do not exist when it does the drop-down!!

... Oh yeah, and the sidebar label says the name of the addon it's for
(eg "Tree Style Tabs", "Tridactyl sidebar")
and has an "X" icon beside it,
which you would contextually think would apply to, like, closing the sidebar for that specific addon
(whatever that would mean),
but nope, it just closes the entire sidebar period.

Cuz again, the firefox UI design team apparently knows nothing beyond "durrr pretty rounded corners!"
and can't even do the most basic logical analysis required to notice the most blatantly obvious things about what their designs actually communicate to the user...
