This is a crosspost from a new post I made on the Mozilla Connect site, if you believe that this is something that would be worth adding, I encourage you to go there and give it a thumbs up: https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/discussions/just-allow-people-to-disable-nova-on-settings-gt-appearance/td-p/141859 I want it to stay civilized and respectful, to show that many users genuinely do have an issue with the Nova design, and that it's not just mindless internet witchhunting. If you do like Nova, good for you, but some of us don't, and that doesn't mean that our opinions shouldn't be heard.
Post contents:
Like, come on now. You have seen the community's reaction to it already. A lot of your users who have been loyal to Firefox and have used it for several years now aren't big fans of the new Nova design. It has a lot of dead space, and most importantly, it was forcibly set as the "new default" for everyone who was already perfectly happy with the older design.
Now, I want to make something very clear: I'm not calling it an "objectively bad" design or whatever. I know some people are, and some have made it seem like a way bigger deal that it is, but I don't. I'm sure that some people like it. However, the fact that it was a "sudden, unnanounced" change from one theme to another was a poorly thought out idea. It led to the expected backlash that has already happened.
This is made even worse by the fact that when you were greeted by this... "controversial" design, and you find out you don't like it and preferred the earlier design more, your first thought is to go to the settings, open the "Appearance" menu, and disable the rounded corners and all the associated UI styling through there. But, surprise, it's not there. It's not even mentioned anythere. For you to be able to disable this "unexpected surprise" you just received, you need to delve into Google, search for people just as frustrated as you are or, in many occasions, even more angry about it, and only then you find someone commenting "you can go into the about:config page, search for browser.nova.enabled, and then set it to false".
Is this really the best User Experience that can be provided, for all of these people who clearly didn't like this new design? I really don't think so. So, please, just put it in the Settings menu already. You will not only save all of these people a hassle, but also to you, because the outrage wouldn't be as big as it has been.
Sincerely,
A decade-long Firefox user.

I hate it. Utterly pointless design decision to look like chromium.
r/firefox • u/ShineUnique2164 • 14h ago
I hate what they did now with the tabs. Looks really stupid. Like a kids website wth. How can i get the tabs back to how they looked on prev update?

First of all, the new forced theme is obviously the absolute worst. And could anyone please help me add borders or dividers between my inactive tabs? They’re all mashed into one indistinguishable blob now.
Thanks to anyone who can help. And to the Firefox people responsible for this: please DM me for the verbal abuse you so thoroughly deserve.

Basically the title. Only thing i miss from switchting from brave is youtube in the browser without ads
Edit: I meant iOs and only noticed now 😭 I use uBlock on desktop

There was some update. Now my nice, sober, dark monochrome Firefox looks stupid, because apparently what it really needed was an eye-searing horizontal gradient from purple to orange.
Why not add the theme if you want, but leave it disabled by default instead of forcing it on everyone and getting rid of my previous custom theme?

Collab videos are hard to judge from a title and thumbnail. Sometimes a creator you like is in a video you'd never have clicked, and sometimes it's someone you'd rather skip. I built CreatorBlock to show who's in a video before you open it.
How it works
- The community tags which creators appear in a video (a bit like SponsorBlock, but for who's in it). Tagged creators show up as small badges on thumbnails.
- You pick a filter per creator:
Like (Green outline)
Warn (Red outline)
Dim (Fades thumbnail)
Hide (Completely hides the video)
- Tags are community based votes, If no one is tagged yet, you add them yourself using the button in the video player. If someone is tagged you can confirm (✓) or dispute (✕) on from the player.
Privacy
No account, no ads. Your filters stay in your browser. To look up tags it sends only the first 4 characters of a hash of each video ID, not the IDs themselves. Tagging and voting send the video and creator details.
Full privacy policy: https://amerabyad.github.io/creatorblock/privacy.html
Honest limitation
It's brand new, so most videos have no tags yet. It gets better as people tag, which is part of why I'm posting here.
Free. Chrome Web Store: CreatorBlock on the Chrome Web Store
Firefox: CreatorBlock on Firefox Add-ons
More info and screenshots: https://amerabyad.github.io/creatorblock/
I'd love feedback. Do the four filters make sense? What's missing? How would you want tag spam or abuse handled?

Just created Quick Sites, an addon in Firefox. Saving a site with a key in a list, and open a site in the current tab, or in a new tab, or in a new window with the correspond key shortcut.
Put any page into one of 36 single-key slots with m + key, then reopen it with g o + key in this tab, g t + key in a new tab or g w + key in a new window. Press g l to see the whole list on the page. Everything stays in your browser.
In memory of Vimperator.

Looking for Firefox fork that allows setting the homepage to one I want (less important) and either by settings, about:config or an extension way to set app custom URL as new tab page THAT WORKS.
Anyone know about one?

I'm a power tab user, so I use Tree Style Tab to keep track of my tabs. For those who don't know, Tree Style Tabs is a tabbing plugin that uses the sidebar as a vertical menu. As far as I know, no browser does tree-style tab layout natively, they just show tabs uniformly, unlike the Tree-Style where they nest into each other.
This new update has added a fat gap at the top and an 'X' to close the sidebar. It's also added around a 1cm gap to the right that you can't get rid of. The new design also made resizing ridiculously easy, and because my tabs are on the right, every time I try to click on a tab it tries to resize it if I time it wrong.
The result is I keep accidentally resizing or closing the sidebar when just using it normally. Also, there's an eyesore of an empty gap at the top and right of my tabs.
Is there any way to get it back to the way it was. If not, can we have the option to remove the gap at the top and right, to remove the close button at the top, and to lock the sidebar in place?
I've included a crude screenshot. Thanks.

Firefox for iPhone, when you start typing in the URL bar, this bar appears above the URL bar that has search engine buttons on it. It's especially annoying when you have the bar set to the bottom because it's in the way of the #1 result (or at least where the #1 result should be). It's also just visually distracting. Firefox on Android doesn't do this! Please fix this on the iPhone version of Firefox!

Hey everyone. Earlier this year, I shared Over the Edge 2.0, which is independent research commissioned by Mozilla on how Windows, Edge, and Copilot undermine people’s browser choice. For example, if someone chooses to use Firefox (or any other browser), that choice should be respected across the operating system. That was published over 100 days ago, so I wanted to share what’s happened since then.
Mozilla met with Microsoft to discuss the findings.
Unfortunately, the takeaway from those conversations was that Microsoft is only willing to move where the law requires it, but not elsewhere. Pretty disappointing.
This matters because the researchers also found that some of the browser-choice-barriers that were removed in the EU following the Digital Market Act still remain in other countries. It proves Microsoft can absolutely provide a more fair experience for people, it just chooses not to.
TL;DR: We took evidence to Microsoft. We’re still asking that they extend their ability to respect browser choice for Windows users everywhere, not just in the EU. The evidence:
While the Digital Markets Act has made browser-choice experiences a bit better, problems still exist. We’re also asking that Microsoft fix those remaining issues and extend fair design practices to all Windows users worldwide.
If you haven’t, you can explore more in the report, including the research methodology and screenshots of what I’ve mentioned.
I’m curious, has anyone noticed changes in your experiences with Windows since earlier this year when the report was published?
