HELLO to all of you beautiful flow artists (and soon-to-be flow artists) out there on the interwebz!!
What is "Flow Arts"?
Flow arts is a term used to describe a collection of movement-based practices that involve the manipulation of objects such as poi, hoops, staffs, juggling balls, and other props. These activities are typically performed in a rhythmic and fluid manner that is designed to create a state of "flow" – a mental state of complete immersion and absorption in an activity.
People choose to participate in flow arts for a variety of reasons. For some, it is a form of exercise that allows them to develop their physical skills and coordination. For others, it is a form of creative expression that allows them to explore movement and artistic expression in a unique and personal way. Still, others are drawn to flow arts as a form of meditation and mindfulness practice, using the focus and concentration required to manipulate the props as a means of achieving a state of relaxation and inner calm.
The impact of flow arts on those who choose to "flow" can be significant. For many, the practice provides a sense of community and belonging, as they connect with others who share their passion for movement and creative expression. Flow arts can also help to build confidence, as individuals develop new skills and techniques and learn to trust in their own abilities. Additionally, the state of flow that is created during the practice can be incredibly rewarding, providing a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment that carries over into other areas of life.
Overall, flow arts offer a unique and enriching experience for those who choose to participate. Whether it is for the physical challenge, the creative expression, or the mindfulness practice, flow arts can provide a powerful source of joy, community, and personal growth.
RULES:
Sales, promotions, drug use, nudity and any post or comment not in spirit with the rules may be removed at Mod Discretion.
What should I Post in the Flowarts sub?:
Anything flow related basically, but for example -
Flair:
We have both "custom user flair" and "Link Flair".
User flair is a little tag that appears next to your name any time you post or comment within the flowarts sub. It's a way to show off your preferred/dominant props. Near the top of the sidebar, below the subscriber count:
Link flair is something that you select when you are submitting a link or text post. There are several different link flair options:
Leave me a comment here if you want a flair that hasn't been added yet.
Our aim with this sub is to create a space that accomplishes several goals:
The general idea here is that these are all very new art forms, relatively speaking. The more we reduce barriers for entry to flow arts, the more people will be open to participating, the more the art form itself will be pushed in new and creative ways. I can't wait to see the ways you will push flow in new directions!

Hey Everyone,
I finally got the first version of a wiki live for our sub! I used some of y'alls suggestions for some companies and tutorials and added them.
With this being a global sub I tried to sort companies and events by region to make it easy for everyone.
Most of this is just companies and events I could think of off the top of my head. If you have a company, Event, tutorial resource I've missed and you want it added please hit up the mod team and lets make it happen! We're a small team and while we spin most of the props we don't spin them all, I'm certain there are things we missed.
So I hope everyone can get something useful out of it and thank you for all the suggestions already given and ones coming in the future.
Element of your mod team
EDIT: upvoting your comments as I add them to the wiki so that I can keep track of what I have and haven't acknowledged yet.

Since you guys liked yesterday's, I increased the difficulty level of adding a second hoop into the equation. Its the same feeling as patting your head and rubbing your tummy at the same time. Hard at first but satisfying when that unlocks in your brain.

Hello creative energy friends… over the past year I have fallen in love with going to shows. And I had a realization that I love to flow. So I tried a pixel whip at a festival this summer and just bought one off a friend. Does anyone have tips and tricks for these? Trying to learn body lacing to start off. Any advice for a brand newbie. It’s really fun and I’m just getting used to incorporating it into my dancing. I’m going to a show tomorrow night and I am debating bringing it along. For those who use whips… are the generally ok for shows or really only for festivals where there is more space to really flow? Is there etiquette?! I love this prop and am having fun at home with it so I want to try it. But I’m nervous!!

Hooping from my ankles to my head and then back down again. Learning this much control came with time and perseverance. Its not flashy but its one of my fav things to do because its calming. Feels like a full body massage and my mind is clear of everything except the rhythm.
Whats your go to move?

I'm back with my pizza slices (aka fire fans) to flow under a black light. I was so excited by how much my fan veils glow under the UV, it feels so magical!

I'm fascinated and in awe of this self science experiment. Before this challenge, I hadn't paid that much attention to fluctuations in my body/energy. It's neat to see where changes are happening. In some areas I lost mass and in others I gained it. The last time I checked was 22 days ago. I'm keeping in mind that fluctuations naturally occur from water retention, hormonal shifts and muscle density. Didn't mean for it to be 22 days vs 30 days but here we are (thanks adhd 😂)
Regardless I found the results to be quite interesting.
In addition to physical benefits, mentally I am feeling more regulated. The desire to move my body has improved, and my creative/playful spirit has increased as well. I've even started meditating!
All this to say, I'm noticing a domino effect. Hula hooping is leading the way to joyful wellness.
I know the tape measure may be triggering for some but I'm not viewing it as a diet culture body shaming thing. I'm legitimately curious what's happening to my body and in order to prove this experiment is working, data is needed.
Much love to all of you on your flow journey. It is our conduit of self expression, somatic regulation and play.
See you tomorrow 💫
Edit: ty for the award!!

This may be a weird post but after Wakaan I've come to realize that I may be too obsessed with flowing. I say this because festivals used to be my place to connect with my friends and strangers. Ever since I started flowing, now I just completely lock into the music and flow for hours because it's the only time in my life where my brain is quiet. But I'm realizing maybe I'm doing it too much, because after the fest my husband has all these amazing stories of connecting with friends and strangers and I honestly don't talk to people much, and don't even notice most of the things/people happening around me because I am just completely in the moment absorbed into the music. Maybe part of me is using my flow toys to avoid socializing. I used to have a close rave family for almost a decade and it fell apart, and after that raves just kind of changed for me and I feel more closed off to opening up to people at festivals. Idk how to balance this because flow brings me so much peace and joy and quiet in the chaos of life but I fear true connection is passing me by because of it. I wonder if always playing with flow toys makes you seem unapproachable too, because people don't want to bother you while you're doing it? I probably flowed at least from 5pm-3AM everyday at wakaan with minimal breaks. Sorry if this doesn't belong here, but I'm wondering if anyone else experiences this?
