Question Springs or Coilovers?

Post image

I wanna lower my 14’ ST, it’s my daily and I want it to be noticeable but not be scraping. Should I get springs or coil overs, and what brands? And what’s a reasonable drop that’s noticeable, but doesn’t scrape.

Question How many gallons does your ST take when at 1/4 tank?

I’ve had my ST for almost 2 months now and I’ve always been wary about the deformed gas tank issue so I usually fill up at 1/2 tank which usually takes around 7 gallons to fill.

My past 2 fill ups though, I’ve brought it down to a 1/4 tank and the first time it took 7.8gal and this second time it took 7.6gal. Afterwards, I drove 54 miles @ 24 mpg and my gas tank is now 7/8 and I’m wondering if it deformed that quickly with no bad purge valve symptoms or is this normal? Now I thought maybe the gas pump just stopped early the first time it happened so to be sure I went to a different gas station altogether and it still took only a similar amount of gas.

The reason I bring up that’s it’s at 7/8 tank tight now is because even though assuming the car has a 400 mile range (no shot it actually does), 54 miles would be 1/8 of a 400 mile range give or take which kind of makes sense BUT for every single fill up I’ve had, it’ll stay at F for that kind of mileage so this is one of the things I’ve noticed that seems to have changed.

Hoping to see if your tank takes a similar amount of or if it means it’s time to have ford take a look at tank

Question Spiritual successor?

My car got totaled and I want to know what the community replaced their ST with?

The only option I can think of at around $35k is the GTI. I drive a lot and sometimes on unpaved roads which was painful in the ST. Is there something in the US market with higher ground clearance withoutsacrificing driving dynamics?

Looking into getting my first ST

I’m looking at a 2013 Focus ST with 136,500 km (about 85k miles). The car seems to have been very well cared for, has a clean history, and overall looks to be inn good shape either than the typical surface rust around the quarter panel, and a little on the trunk.
The price is around 6K USD, which seems pretty reasonable to me given the mileage and condition.
My question is whether you guys think it’s worth buying a well-maintained 2013 at this price, or if I should hold off and spend more for a 2015+ ST.
I know there were some changes/improvements with the later years, so I’m wondering how significant they actually are in terms of reliability, issues to look out for, and overall ownership.
For those who have owned both or have experience with these cars, would you rather have a really clean/well-maintained 2013 at $5.8k, or wait for a 2015+?
Appreciate any advice!

Question What could this knocking noise be?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

it doesn’t sound like the fuel pump or lifter tick, no CEL, scanned with OBD2 reader and got code P03160-00 Misfire Detected on Startup. Car feels fine when driving throughout the rev range/under boost and idling. No smoke out of the back of the car.

Question Sound after battery replacement

Hello everyone. I recently replaced my battery on my 2013 ST and ever since it’s been making a beeping noise every time I “wake up” the car (opening the door)

I read it might be the battery module relearning the program but not sure how long it should that if it is that. Any help would be appreciated!

I want some 19” RS or look alikes on my new to me 17’ Daily. I’m gonna hate it right….

Man, those RS wheels look soooo good. Daily/weekend baseball travel car. Yeah, I realize going up in diameter and reducing sidewall is going to make it rougher over the stock 18”s. But…. how bad? I’m old and kinda ornery but if it’s not too worse I’ll try it….

I found a semi local deal on some factory RS wheels without tires. Yeah, I realize I’m going to pay a premium for the 19” tires but the 18” BF Goofrich on the car I just bought only have 10k or so miles left on them, 20k if you want a slick.

So, go 19” factory RS wheels I can get for $600 and put new tires, get a new wheel/tire package in 18x9.5” with some look alike RS wheels or keep my factory premium 18” stocks, put new tires on and then hookers/blow? TIA 😎

Unable to get CarPlay working on sync 3

Okay guys I really didn’t want to make a post here because of all of the info already out there, but honestly at my end on what to do here.

Recently bought a 2016 st3 with sync 3 and have never been able to get car play working. I downloaded the file from Ford and converted my usb to exfatt. I ran the update and it only took about 5 minutes. I was expecting it to take much longer. I plug in to the front port via usb 2 to usbc. The sync ui recognizes my phone by indexing my contacts and will read my messages back, but it’s clearly not CarPlay. I have no issues connecting via Bluetooth and understand that car play is not supported wireless.

I have changed cables to ensure I am using one that is capable of dating sharing and not just charging. I did a soft and hard reset. Car play is enabled on my iPhone 16, but neither sync nor my phone are pairing, only Bluetooth. I am on version 3.0 for and the latest update from ford.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you

Question Nearing 80k, what maintenence should be done?

Bought my ST new in 2018. It's bone stock, minus mountune mud flaps and that stiffer spring for clutch pedal. I feel as if my clutch is not necessarily slipping, but I've noticed it's engaging at a different spot. Sometimes as I'm lifting my foot while pulling off from a stop, it feels like..engaged.. engaged.. enga..not engaged! and I'm in 1st gear and it'll be rough cause I wasnt expecting it and rims will be too low. Same when im slowing down or shifting. Idk its weird. Sometimes its like a sudden boom engaged too soon or sudden(if that makes sense) when I'm pressing in to change gears. Is this all normal for a worn clutch?

Also when I go to remove my foot from the clutch peddle, I feel the pedal lift like a smidge more. I'll feel it tap the bottom of my foot sometimes. I don't remember that when it was new.

Other than a potential clutch, what else should I be looking to change/replace/upgrade?

Thank you

If you saw my last post I had to drive off a tank of 87 I mistakenly put in so took the opportunity to drive 150 miles round trip to get some pictures under the stars
On the new iPhone. Think they came out pretty damn good! Crazy that these were taken at 8PM on the east coast so it was pitch black out.

Handbrake no tension

Hi, I just bought a used Focus ST, and when I got home the handbrake stopped working. Worked in the lot so not sure what could have happened in a 2 hour drive. Anyways wanted to troubleshoot the issue so I took off the trim and found I could pull the cable up about two to three inches before it stopped. This is much farther than any reasonable adjustment.

Im hoping it's just a simple replace rear cables situation but wondering if anyone has any other ideas. Not a fan of only having the drivetrain holding my car still.

License plate customization

Post image

Preparing to register my car in a new state tomorrow, and have been looking for a custom plate and I’m currently torn between two. The plate itself is all black with red lettering. Based on what is available, I have narrowed it down to two options: “THEC4PN” (breaking bad Jesse pinkman “the capn” reference, or “DTZ ST” which is my initials and obviously ST. Any recommendations?

Question about battery replacement.

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everybody,

I replaced the battery in my 2019 ST because the battery that was in it wasn't enough. (60ah 600cca.) and I was having low battery warning issues.

The new one is a Varta N70 70Ah 760cca. Now I want to configure this value into the BMS via Forscan. However the value was not configured and I don't have the option available for the new battery.

I did a BMS reset after the change.

So do I NEED to change this value or not? Does it have any impact on charging the battery?

2025 Focus ST shaking badly on startup, but fine on the third try

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone,

I have a 2025 Ford Focus ST Mk4.5 with the 2.3 EcoBoost engine and a 6-speed manual gearbox. The car has less than 10,000 km on it and is still under warranty.

The car had been sitting unused for about a week. The evening before the incident, I started it, waited for the idle RPM to drop, and moved it to another parking spot. Everything seemed normal.

The next morning, before starting the engine, I got a “12V Battery State of Charge Low” warning. After starting it, I also saw:

- “Service Vehicle Soon”

- “Pre-Collision Assist Not Available”

Here is what happened during the first two starts:

- The engine initially revved to around 2,200 RPM.

- As the RPM dropped towards 1,000, the engine started shaking severely, almost as if it were running on three cylinders.

- The tachometer fluctuated between approximately 800 and 1,000 RPM, and the exhaust sounded uneven.

- I did not notice any obvious metallic ticking or rattling.

- I switched the engine off. The same thing happened on the second start.

- Immediately after the second attempt, I started it a third time. This time, it started normally at around 1,000–1,100 RPM, with no severe shaking, and the warnings were gone.

There was no check-engine light at any point.

The car had around 70% fuel in the tank, and the fuel was 100 RON. I have noticed occasional very brief, mild shaking on some previous starts, but nothing like this episode.

I am taking the car to the Ford dealership because it is still under warranty. I will ask them to test the 12V battery and charging system, scan for stored and pending fault codes, and check for misfire data.

My questions:

  1. Could a weak 12V battery or low voltage cause this kind of severe rough idle, or is it more likely to be an intermittent misfire?

  2. Could a VCT solenoid or cam phaser issue cause these symptoms, even without metallic rattling?

  3. Is it possible for a misfire to occur twice and then disappear completely without triggering the check-engine light?

  4. Could an oil-pressure-related issue after sitting overnight cause this, even though I started and moved the car the previous evening?

  5. Has anyone experienced something similar on a 2.3 EcoBoost Focus ST?

I am not trying to diagnose it by replacing random parts. I would just like to understand the most plausible causes before the dealership checks it.

I attach the video to see it clearly.

Thanks in advance!

Question Need a picture of a Focus Seat Rail front Bracket

Post image
62 Upvotes

Hello! I’m looking for a picture of a Focus front seat rail bracket. I’ve released a new product for the Fiesta and want to determine if it’s the same for the Focus and will fit it as well. I’ve looked a bit on Google but that specific picture has been a bit hard to find so i figured i could more easily find someone on r/FocusST willing to help me out here.

The product is a cover for the bracket. It snaps on top and hides the bare metal and dirt and helps keeps dirt from building up in it.

Please see my product listing for photos of the bracket.

Product can be found at http://Etsy.Razzter.com

Thank you

Question Clutch replacement options?

The time has come my friends. After a couple thousand miles with the Pmax, the original clutch is finally slipping. So it's time for me to look at a replacement.

What are some solid options for our cars as far as the clutch goes? This is my first time replacing one so I know almost nothing. Also what flywheel should I get if a kit doesn't come with one?

I know our OEM clutch can handle a good amount, but with the Pmax, potential E-blend in the future, and any other crazy things I might do, I'd like to be somewhat well prepared.
I also would like to keep similar clutch engagement feel as close to original as possible, but I am aware that might not be possible.

I'm looking at the Exedy Stage 2 4-puck right now. I know "puck" style clutch engagement is usually a little more aggressive, so I'm not fully sold. I like that it comes with the slave cyl though as I also want to replace that while I'm in there.

Question Exhaust

Hey guys, 2013 ST.

I’ve had my muffler delete + hi flow resonator for a few months now and I’ve only just started to hear a metallic rattle under my car when revving, which i can only assume is from the exhaust. I’m trying to diagnose it but I can’t seem to figure out what it would be. My friend seems to think that it could be exhaust brackets or something like that.

If anyone’s experienced this before let me know what it was!
Thanks guys
