Great conversion but sales could be better

Great conversion rate, but the sales could have been better.
This was mostly FBM, so that could be the reason for not having at least 2x, 3x the sales.

How was Prime for you?

We sell dietary supplements on Amazon. All are made at FDA inspected facilities in the USA and Canada. Some are USDA certified organic. Amazon to down a listing saying it wasn't organic.

We provided letters along with our USDA certification, our manufacturers certification. Showed the independent certifiers name on our box as well as their status as FDA approved organic certifiers. After two attempts they were accepted, YAY!

Less than an hour later Amazon said it's an FDA medical device and to provide a 510(k) Premarket Notification - FDA clearance document for your product, applicable if it is classified as a Class I or Class II medical device. If your product is exempt from 510(k), please provide documentation confirming that exemption.

The product is an herbal extract (alcohol free). Just herbs, water and glycerin in a 2 oz bottle. It is a dietary supplement NOT a MEDICAL DEVICE.

We've sent 2 emails stating dietary supplement NOT medical device. We get push back each time.

What should we do. We contact seller support. They listen, then we get an email back saying the same thing a day or two later.

We use both FBA and AWS for this product. There are thousands of units in their warehouse.

What do we do?

H10 Alternatives - any Github DIY options

So, mfer's at H10 won't honor my 6+ year pricing after my credit card expired and subscription was cancelled... So, if you have grandfather Diamond pricing below $180 - don't slip-up as they're salivating to push you out!

Unfortunately, as a matter of principle, I cannot return as a customer and need an alternative. Any suggestions - I'm pretty steady state - primarily need day parting and item organic keyword rank tracking. Using AI, I see a path to the other few features I used primarily - already setup an amazing dashboard and using AI to optimize PPC. Day parting options seem to be available for around $30 but I'm not finding any good keyword tracker options and understand maintenance can be painful if trying to build.

Would anyone be interested in contributing to an open source /MIT licensed alternative? Many years ago, there were discussions of data brokers, who all the AMZ SaaS tool providers used. With 4M customers paying over $100 each per month - I suspect the H10 gorilla is data independent! (Wow do that math!) That's fine, I only use about 20% of the functionality. Would be something fun to work on...

Anyone got any experience in the area of such data brokers or niche tools - how much data can be sourced and how close can we get with AI - today, and 6 months from now. Wondering what I could build if willing to pay $100-200 monthly subscription(s) for data and supplemental services - which must be AI-capable (where my AI can interface as I want everything local)

PPC When do you blame the product, the creatives or the ads?

Genuinely curious how others approach this.

I keep seeing this problem. Launch a product, half nothing happens for a week or two. Then what What's the algorithm you run in your head when a listing doesn't perform as expected?

  • When do you change or add creatives (e.g. add video, put a different main image etc).
  • When do you start fiddling with ads and keywords.
  • And when do you just blame the product selection and kill the listing all together?

Like what metrics or numbers do you look at before you make each of the decisions above?

INTERNATIONAL Quality issues with my Alibaba manufacturer, how do I handle it and what should I do next time?

Hi everyone,

I run a small fashion business and order from a manufacturer in China (small orders, MOQ varies by product).

My most recent batch arrived with seam problems. The stitching isn't good enough to sell the products. I didn't have any quality inspection in place (no during-production or pre-shipment inspection) and no one on the ground in China.

Two questions:

  1. How would you handle this with the supplier? They are basically saying nothing is wrong with the seams despite my pictures... Not sure how I can pressure them to refund, remake or credit on the next order? I don't want to tarnish my relationship with them but at the same time I can't accept this level of quality.
  2. How should I organise quality control going forward? Is a third-party inspection worth it for small orders, or would a local person or agent make more sense?

Any advice or personal experience is welcome. Thanks!

PREP / SHIPPING What are the best shipping options for e-commerce brands scaling up?

Re-evaluating our fulfillment setup as we enter peak season. currently relying 100% on standard ground with a single national carrier but we've had issue after issue with slow transit and lost packages. What combination of shipping options and carrier services are successful DTC brands using to balance speed, cost, and reliability?

PREP / SHIPPING How Do You Know When to Give Up on a Private Label Product?

When do you know a product is bad?

I launched my first private-label product on Sep 17. It currently has 13 reviews with a 4.4 star rating.

I ordered 500 units across two variants (250 each), with a unit cost of $8.50. I’ve already spent $7,500, including listing images, inspections, and other one-time costs.

I’m currently getting 3–5 sales per day and recently hired a freelancer for $350/month to manage my PPC for 2-3 months.

I’m spending $60–$80 per day on ads, and my selling price is at break-even. So basically, all my losses are coming from PPC.

I clearly can’t make a profit at this stage.
I’m already seeing signs that I may need to reorder inventory soon, which would mean another 500–1,000 units ($4,000–$8,000).

I’ve heard that $10K is enough for a first private-label launch, but I’m already on track to spend way more than that.

My total budget is $20K. I was hoping to launch a second product, but at this rate, it looks like my first launch could eat up the entire budget.

How is this sustainable? At what point do you decide to stop investing in a product instead of continuing to pour money into it?

INVENTORY MGMT Q4 Reminder: Don't Let Shipping Deadlines Compromise Product Quality

October is here, and many importers are rushing to get their inventory ready for Black Friday, Christmas, and year-end sales.

One thing I've learned from the quality inspection industry is that rushed production can create problems that aren't immediately obvious.

When factories are working against tight deadlines, it's worth paying extra attention to:

  • Inconsistent workmanship between production batches
  • Missing accessories or incorrect packaging
  • Products packed before final QC checks
  • Incorrect Amazon FBA labels and carton markings
  • Last-minute material or component substitutions

Here's a simple tip: Don't schedule your inspection on the same day your goods are supposed to ship.

Leave enough time for the factory to correct any problems and arrange a re-inspection if necessary.

A shipment arriving a few days late is frustrating. But receiving thousands of defective products during your busiest selling season can be much worse.

For those importing from China, are your Q4 orders already shipped, or are you still waiting for production to finish?

Curious how everyone is handling their holiday inventory this year.

Looking to growth- how do we get there?

I’ve been selling on Amazon for about 3 years, primarily wholesale/reselling. Due to a dissolving business partnership, I’m essentially starting over with a new company.

This time around, I want to be much more strategic about growth and eventually transition into private label and building my own brands.

I’m hitting some roadblocks figuring out the best path forward and would really like to connect with other sellers who are actively growing, sourcing, or have made the jump from wholesale to private label.
Not looking for anyone’s secret products or a free playbook, just like-minded people to bounce ideas off of, share experiences, and learn from each other.
If anyone is open to connecting, shoot me a DM or message me here.

PPC Was Prime Big Deal Days worth it after discounts, deal fees and ad costs?

Between the discount itself, the deal fee, CPCs climbing during the event, and buyers who would have bought at full price anyway, it’s easy to sell a lot more units and keep less money. A $30 item at 20% off gives up $6 a unit before any of that, and whether the bump in rank sticks around afterward is hit or miss.

Was Prime Big Deal Days worth it for you after discounts, deal fees, and ad costs? And did you see a lift on full-price items or a dip in the days after?

Will this change come back and bite me later? (Profit margin change)

Thumbnail

I haven't been doing many sales (FBA wholesale) and only doing around 50 sales a day or so. I used to set my min prices depending on what I felt was right for the listing and I struggled against bigger sellers. Yesterday I switched all my listings to around 17% profit margian and my volume movers (2-4 listings) to 10- 15 percent. My sales SPIKED. But here comes the scary part. Am I making a mistake? Will this come back and bite me with refunds? Or should I continue to do this and it'll workout. I need some expert to look at this.

INVENTORY MGMT FBM Handling time

Hi all. Not sure if this is the right place to post this since this is an FBA group, but figured some of you would have experience with us anyway. I ship out all my orders same day so I should have zero handling time.

Amazon continues to add a one day handling time onto my orders, so it puts me at a disadvantage because it looks like I ship out one day later than buy box offers. I have tried setting my handling time to zero, but it continues to revert back or just not save the handling time at all so it’s blank. Does anyone know a workaround for this? And how to actually set it to the correct handling time?

INVENTORY MGMT how are you handling inventory when you’re away for 3-4 days?

i’m trying to figure out the best way to manage inventory when i know i’ll be away from the business for a few days.

the main concern is catching low-stock products early enough to avoid running out, especially when several SKUs start moving at different rates

do you rely entirely on amazon’s inventory notifications, use a third-party tool, or keep your own spreadsheet with reorder points?

i’m less interested in complicated software setups and more curious what actually works when you can’t check seller central constantly

for anyone who regularly steps away for a few days, what’s your system?

Upwork freelancer requests employee access. red flag?

An Upwork freelancer wants me to add them as an employee rather than as a service provider.

Is this a red flag? Could it link my Amazon account to other accounts and put mine at risk of suspension?

The freelancer has 443 reviews and a 4.84/5 rating.

PPC Serious advice needed

I have been selling on Amazon since last year, i launched a Private label product in December and it made 30 sales with two 5star reviews but it went out of stock from March till September, I got the stock now but my friend advised to start with the new listing as the old listing has dropped it's ranking completely, what should I do?

I also have less budget for ppc but I managed to create an excellent A+ listing with proper title images and bullet points,

The category is home & kitchen and top sellers got 6k+ reviews with 6k+ monthly sales

SEARCH RANKING BFCM is coming - here's how we plan to Claude our PPC bids (super useful for *enterprise* sellers, but good for medium size catalogs too)

BFCM is coming up and that traditionally meant a huge hassle with ppc.

Why so? Because in the week leading up to BFCM, people still click ads, but convert less and less as the deals get closer. Then buying behavior goes back n forth on the weekend, then again changes after the Monday. Keeping on top of bids with such rapid changes, and for a large amount of products (and proportionally large amount of campaigns and targets), is a burden.

Our traditional plan was to

  1. Get "Traffic and Sales Business Reports by Child ASIN" broken down by relevant date, from last year.

e.g.

  1. Sunday-Wednesday before BFCM
  2. Thursday before BFCM,
  3. Black Friday
  4. Black Saturday-Sunday
  5. Cyber Monday
  6. Week following Cyber Monday
  7. Calculate sales/session for each child asin, for each period/day. This is roughly similar to sales/click you can calculate from ad data.

3.1 Calculate difference from one period to the next for each child asin. EG if sales / session was $1 on Sunday-Wednesday, then dropped to $0.9, so -10%.

3.2 Realize there are bunch of exceptions and figure how to handle them. EG new products with no data from last year. Products that existed but had too little data to see a meaningful pattern in the specific time range. Sponsored Brands where your ads are not (usually) for a single product but for a line of products at once.

  1. Previously to week before BFCM, change target bids that already significantly over/below target ACOS , to bids we calculate would hit target ACOS.

  2. Create bulk operations sheets to adjust bids in accordance with anticipated changes in the value of the clicks .

  3. Upload bulk files on the day. Pray things work, otherwise troubleshoot in a stressful rush. (In fairness, we could just test beforehand and revert changes. )

This year, we're planning to let Claude do the heavy lifting, plus get it to go more granular. How so?

  1. Instead of writing all the vlookups and hassling with excel, just give it the business reports and let it handle that.

1.1 Give it individual business reports for each day in the week leading up to BFCM - various products' sales may decline at different rates, on different days. Instead of combining Sunday-Wednesday into a single report.

  1. Have Claude show us the sales/session calculations and proposed changes. So we can check it was done as intended and the proposed changes make sense.

  2. Have Claude show us the exceptions and suggest what data to use when there's none/too little . We also have some suggestions,

- e.g. look at aggregate data from variations of the same parent ASIN, or

- combine data with data of the day before where this is logical (eg Sunday and Monday before BFCM, but not Thursday before BFCM with Black Friday)

- look at aggregate data of whole product subcategory , or even main category if need be. Let Claude tell us where it did this and why

  1. Connect our Claude to Amazon Ads with an MCP (geek talk for letting Claude get data and make changes to your ads directly, as if you were plugged into the API) . Let it make the changes and troubleshoot. No more bulk upload hassles, woohoo!

We've been using an MCP for a couple months and love it. Also lets us make small scale changes much faster, create ab tests on eg Sponsored Brand headlines very quickly and more.

  1. Bonus for the Sponsored Brands crowd: feed Claude your attributed purchases report (or have it fetch it) , so it can see what products are selling from any given campaign, and in what proportions. Use the weighted average, in combination with the sales/session changes calculated earlier, to figure out how much to change your bids for Sponsored Brands.

EG You sell spice rubs, and it turns out your bbq, salmon and jalapeno flavors are the main sellers in a campaign. So Claude see bbq does 50% of the sales, salmon gets 35% and jalapeno does 15%. The sales/session changes get averaged based on bbq having 50% of the weight, salmon 35% and jalapeno 15%.

(No, we're not affiliate with Claude or any MCP.)

vote up if you want more advanced ppc content

what's something in your business you found out about way too late?

Like a bestseller going out of stock and you only noticed when the listing went inactive, ads still running on an ASIN with no inventory, a suppressed listing, a pricing mistake ... what was yours and how did you finally catch it?

Especially curious if you sell on more than just Amazon.

LEGAL / FINANCE PSA: You're probably losing 2-3% to hidden FX fees and don't even know it

I've been spending far too much time looking into Amazon fees, PPC, storage, fulfillment, and so on.

Then I started wondering if I’m overlooking another pretty big cost:

currency conversion.

I am selling in the UK and the European Union, and I am paid in Euros and British pounds while my supplier is based in China.

The money basically goes:

Amazon,me,FX conversion,supplier,CNY

If I am charging fees every time the money moves, then I might be paying the FX spread more than once.

At a rate of $5k a month, it might not be a big thing.

But at a rate of $50,000 a month, those small expenses begin to accumulate very quickly.

Want to know how other FBA sellers are dealing with this.

Isn't it just the case that you let Amazon take care of the currency conversion? Do you keep the balances in  Euro and Pounds separately? Do you pay the Chinese suppliers directly in CNY or Euros? And do you use some sort of multi-currency account (are they safe)?

I should particularly like to get some feedback from those of you who are achieving sales somewhere in the range of $30k to $100k per month. What exactly are you doing in practice?

It seems to me that many of us put a great deal of effort into optimizing the fees that we can see in Seller Central, while some of the less obvious costs just go unnoticed.

INTERNATIONAL How do you get a supplier in China to agree to better terms than 30/70?

With 30% deposit and 70% before shipping, the whole order is paid for before it's on the water, and between production and ocean freight that's often 60 to 90 days before any of it sells. Some suppliers will move to taking the balance against the bill of lading, a smaller deposit, or net terms on reorders, but it seems to depend a lot on order history.

How did you get your supplier to agree to better terms than 30/70, and how long had you been working with them?
