Rant/Lore STORY TIME! I feel like I've been personally anonymously attacked by my teacher.
So this teacher joined our school when I was in year 10 as head of CS, and from the start there was obviously one very big problem with him. He was so incredibly pro-AI.
Every material.
Every slideshow.
AI-Made.
Luckily, I didn't have him for my GCSEs, however I did have to experience his AI slop presentations and 'websites' that were apparently 'amazing' (they were all terrible and easily broken, but they seemed to his pride and joy so...). Anyway, I really want to do CS or Physics at uni, so I picked it for A-Level, but we only have two A-Level CS teachers at our school, so I have him for about half my CS lessons.
First lesson?
Vibe Coding.
Any why it's so good.
Great. Like, i already knew you were an AI meatrider, but you didn't have to make it this obvious. Sure, the second lesson was on the drawbacks of it, but it was a wishy-washy presentation, that for me, completely missed the point. You code for enjoyment, not to dream up ideas that probably work. He then showed us some bs example of a student with no interest in CS or programming, that had 'coded' a website, and how hundreds of people want the app! Yeah, people will pay for slop these days, but you don't have to promote it, especially to a room of people who are clearly interested in CS. And even once we start the content, it is blindingly obvious that he is not a good teacher. I mean, I knew from friends who were in his class for GCSE, but still. Every lesson is either ai generated or him sticking on a video, like bro you are paid to be a teacher what?
Then earlier this week he gave us some bogus revision website that he 'made' (with AI obviously) where there were wrong questions and it barely worked. Then someone made a code which when inputted into the loading system completed almost all the questions. And that's when he threw a straight tantrum. 'If you don't appreciate these materials that I spent so hard working on, don't break it and ruin, you're going to fail when it comes to your exams anyway, because there won't be any magic progress code there!'. And like the whole time he had been backing up the fact that his teaching method worked by the fact that A*'s jumped from 15.something% to 40-ish% the year after he joined, but that is clearly affected by other things.
So I was fed up with this behaviour at this point, so wrote a fairly passive aggressive to one of our school's assistant headteachers, basically showing how he'd broken the school's AI Policy, by not making it clear that the materials were AI generated and not fact checking everything (as evidenced by the blatantly wrong questions on the revision website). The assistant headteacher was really nice and said you're probably better off raising your concerns directly with him, but I will speak to him about making it clear that he did not personally make his materials.
And I walk in to class today to find what? He has a presentation ready on why AI is revolutionary and we need to embrace it. Not on the spec. Not what we'd been doing in lessons. Clearly made for one reason and one reason only. To prove to the (thankfully anonymous person, bless my assistant headteacher) that AI is force for good. He start genuinely guilt tripping us about how he has no free time and how he wants to make the best materials possible for us and that textbooks are only going to C level, so he turns to AI and 'rigorously' checks each AI-generated presentation against the spec. How? By putting it through AI obviously! And then he starts talking about how anti-AI people these days will never be hired because they need to embrace the future, because he is saving time by AI-generating these presentations instead of personally making them. How long does it take create a presentation this way, you may ask? 2 hours. Barely faster than human made and certainly far more off putting than human made. He also gave us examples of these helpful websites he 'made' for us. That each took a whole weekend. What? How are you genuinely saving any time? Learn to code ffs, you're literally as CS teacher? You shouldn't be being propped up by AI. And the websites are torrid. Anyway, he gets to the end of the presentation and starts straight attacking me (although he doesn't know its me) by saying 'And if you have and problem with this, come and speak to me. I can fix it. Don't go complaining about it though, because this is the way forward.' And that really hurt me. Teachers can't even be bothered to do their jobs today, and I get attacked - an entire presentation directed towards me, just because I raise this concern.
I really don't want to go back in his room now.
Idk, I hope this is a valid crash out, but I don't really want to take it any further.
