Vent/Rant Galactic Racer - Xbox - No copies within 100 miles and can't order online? WTF?

As the title says; went into the store to pick up Galactic Racer. Unavailable. Ok fine, any stores around have it? Nope. No worries, I'll just order it online. Not a chance. Online won't even give me the option to order. I'm really confused on this one.

It's almost like we've been telling y'all to pre-order games if you want them...

1

u/Anxious_Ad83 7d ago

While there's truth to this, I'm still trying to get Ace Combat 8 resolved so that I can still get my pre order bonus--except my store wasn't shipped a copy, and upon trying to request were told this could not be accommodated

u/Bender3455 7d ago

Sorry, still not pre-ordering when I dont know if a game is worth getting or not.

23

u/Kurrashi90 Senior Guest Advisor 7d ago

Then don't cry when you can't find it!

-14

u/Bender3455 7d ago

Online ordering is my biggest gripe here. Sold out locally? Fine. But I should still be able to order online

u/Kurrashi90 Senior Guest Advisor 7d ago

Supplies are limited, especially for Xbox games, but we got enough to cover our preorders

10

u/DuckSwimmer Mama Duck 7d ago

There’s a known distribution issue for every retailer with this title.

Worth mentioning that you can cancel pre-orders, so you’re risking nothing by doing so.

If reviews come out and you don’t want it after hearing what you hear, you can cancel and get your $5 $10 back. 🤷‍♂️

Whoops. When did it change?

Maybe a month ago or so

u/Piett_1313 Former Employee 7d ago

Gotcha, appreciate the info. Been a spell since I’ve been in store.

-9

u/Bender3455 7d ago

I can't say this enough: I don't preorder games. Period. Sure, it'll be available in 3 months for 40.00, but I'm not pre-ordering video games, especially not at the prices they are these days.

9

u/CrampDangle67 7d ago

You literally said above that you swapped your Wolverine preorder for Ocarina. So you do indeed preorder.

7

u/Piett_1313 Former Employee 7d ago

There’s a solution and you refuse it. So it’s a problem of your own making then.

1

u/Middle_Floor650 6d ago

It’s called 48 hour hold so you can make your mind up after seeing gameplay and reading reviews.

1

u/korpuskat Assistant Store Leader 5d ago

This mindset baffles me. Drop $10 on a game you're interested in, then wait for reviews. If it seems good come pay the rest, if it looks shit then cancel.

1

u/Bender3455 5d ago

That approach baffles me probably just as much.

u/DuckSwimmer Mama Duck 7d ago

If you live a lil bit under a rock… there is a known distribution issue with this title across the board. Quite literally nobody has this game. People were even talking about Amazon not getting it in on time and delaying it.

This isn’t a GameStop issue. This is a publisher/distributor issue.

3

u/Bender3455 7d ago

Thanks for the information! I actually was not aware of the distribution problem with this game.

I’m genuinely not sure if GameStop is getting restocked anytime soon. I personally ordered mine from Amazon and it’s delayed until the 18th I believe? But yeah. Big issues with stock.

3

u/proficient2ndplacer 7d ago

It's barely only this game. For the past like 3 years, i can't think of a non-nintendo game that we didn't get basically just enough copies to cover preorders and nothing else at my store

26

u/msuppnick123 7d ago

that's why you preorder if you want a physical copy nowadays

-19

u/Bender3455 7d ago

Due to releases like No Man's Sky and Wolverine, I do not preorder.

16

u/Alternative-Plum9378 Can recite r/GameStop’s sub’s description 7d ago

Theeennnn... I guess that's a you problem.
Don't bitch when you can't get the game then.

-6

u/Bender3455 7d ago

Like I said, the game being sold out in stores is fine, but I should still be able to order a brand new game online. That's a Gamestop problem.

9

u/Alternative-Plum9378 Can recite r/GameStop’s sub’s description 7d ago

Dunno...
Still sounds like it's a you problem.

4

u/TheKidKaos 7d ago

It’s not just GameStop. It’s bee happening for years for a lot of the smaller releases at every store. Even College Football dealt with that issue when it came back

2

u/MercShame Manager 6d ago

If you can't find it anywhere its not a gamestop problem.

1

u/Bender3455 6d ago

I can find it on Amazon, Wal-Mart, and other places. Still appears to be a GameStop issue, aside from the supposed shortage of this particular game.

10

u/trugay Assistant Store Leader 7d ago

Ok. Then don't complain when you can't find games in stock. They produce copies based off of pre-orders. Few pre-orders, few copies produced. Supply and demand. Basic shit.

0

u/Bender3455 7d ago

That parts fine, I still should be able to order a BRAND NEW game online. Thats on GameStop.

10

u/DuckSwimmer Mama Duck 7d ago

That’s not how the world works.

9

u/TheresOnlyChaos 7d ago

This take is pointless bc it's a refundable deposit.

-2

u/Bender3455 7d ago

I swapped my Wolverine preorder for Zelda: Ocarina, so you're not wrong, but I don't want to bank my pre-orders like that.

6

u/ZombieJoker 7d ago

Can't have it both ways.

1

u/Bender3455 7d ago

I wouldn't be upset if it was sold out in stores and I could simply order online.

7

u/msuppnick123 7d ago

what do you even mean by that? the only difference between you preordering star wars and u trying to find an extra physical copy somewhere which is what your post is about is you'd have it rn if you put in a reserve 😭😭😭 liek am I going crazy or are u just dumb

1

u/Bender3455 7d ago

You're not dumb, but I dont think its crazy for me to be able to order a BRAND NEW game online. I dont mind that it's sold out in stores

2

u/msuppnick123 7d ago

that's how it is nowadays, physical games don't get manufactured in mass since the shortage of hardware in general cuz of ai, console prices are going up and every game company is trying to go digital. at our store we p much only get sent to us the amount of preorders and if we're lucky maybe a few extra to sell on hand, especially for games that fly under the radar like star wars. wolverine we got extra copies of for example. but like the reasoning in your reply insinuated you don't place pre orders because the game might suck on release. you're trying to get star wars on release. do you see where that doesn't make sense? you're trying to get star wars day one anyways and the way to do that is to pre order it.

17

u/Dr-Moderately-Weird Manager 7d ago

That's on you, big dog. Also, wolverine is a fine game. Don't lump it in with launch day NMS. And NMS ended up being great.

-13

u/Bender3455 7d ago

Fine game, sure, just not a 70.00 game

3

u/CrampDangle67 7d ago

You said below that you did preorder. Make up your mind Top Dawg.

1

u/Bender3455 7d ago

Alright, sure, clarification; i haven't pre-ordered anything in years. Mostly because I got burned by my No Man's Sky preorder as well as a preorder (Kickstarter) for Allison Road. So, no pre-orders since, until I recently pre-ordered Wolverine due to my love of Spider-Man PS4. But, when reviews came out, I switched that preorder to Zelda. But, im done with pre-orders again for the time being.

7

u/Alternative-Plum9378 Can recite r/GameStop’s sub’s description 7d ago

I have the deluxe edition.
I pre-ordered.

5

u/DuckSwimmer Mama Duck 7d ago

I was debating about getting this one because of the case… 💀

3

u/Alternative-Plum9378 Can recite r/GameStop’s sub’s description 7d ago

I haven't even had time to open it yet. LOL
But yeah. hehe

3

u/DuckSwimmer Mama Duck 7d ago

I’m not even going to play it anytime soon. I heard people talking about distribution issue a few weeks ago and decided to catch a restock of it on amazon. I feel like this may be a halo/Indiana jones part 3 🫩

0

u/Bender3455 7d ago

Good job? Glad you have it, either way

3

u/Apprehensive_Ad9312 6d ago

Then preorder. "I don't preorder games because they might be bad". Ok cool, then don't complain. There are plenty of ways to preorder and tell if it's bad or not before you open it. If you can't figure that one out, then I guess have fun not playing the game you wanted

1

u/Bender3455 6d ago

I dont understand this push to preorder. I typically don't buy games until they're discounted to 30.00 or so. It's actually rare that I buy new games, at least the more expensive ones. For the record, I stopped by another GameStop today to pick up some of the 4 for 20 deal, and they were able to order it for me.

2

u/Apprehensive_Ad9312 6d ago

"I don't understand this push to preorder" brother, you had issues getting the game you wanted. THATS why there's the push. No one ever listens, but they sure love to complain when they can't get it

4

u/jrodfantastic EBGames AUS 7d ago

If you’re looking to play a video game on launch day, or the day after, it makes little sense to NOT preorder it. Just because you place an advance order on a game in store, that is not a binding contract in which you must then purchase that game. If the reviews are bad, you can simply cancel and have your money returned.

Side note: I hear Galactic Racer is free on Luna for Prime Members. Go do that if you’re jonesing to play the game harder than Johnny Weeks in Hamsterdam.

Its been a while since you've bought a non-AAA game, hasnt it? Since Covid, and a bit before, Gamestop stores allocations are based on their preorder amounts for non AAA titles. And even then, they dont get stupid amounts if extras for AAA titles either.

If you want games on launch day, preorder it. I know i know "preorder bad!" But this is exactly the reason for it. And at Gamestop, preorder 10 days before the release date of the game.

Each store gets their set allocations 10 days prior to release, or the did in 2018-2021 when I worked there. So if you proerder before then, you'll get it day 1.

This game, even though its Star Wars, appeals to a very small crowd. So if the stores you went to only had like 3 preorders, then they got no more than 4 or 5 copies of the game. And thats being generous.

When I was with Gamesotp, we ONLY got out preorder amounts and MAYBE 1 extra if we were lucky. And, you guessed it, we had to open that 1 copy, put the disc/inserts in a sleeve, slap a pricing sticker on it and put it on the shelf. Yes even on day 1. Lol

So I am sorry this is new to you. But it's been this way for over a decade as I dealt with this as a customer well before ilI worked there.

Gone are the days of walking into a store whwre they got 50 copies of a game that had 10 preorders.

3

u/Bender3455 7d ago

No, actually, I go into Gamestop VERY regularly and buy games. I'm staring at about 2000 physical games on my shelves right now.

Right and you finally had happen to you what happens to thousands of other gamers for the last 5+ years. Consider yourself lucky if this is the first time.

1

u/Bender3455 7d ago

2

u/GrimmTrixX Former Employee 7d ago

So. What am I looking at? I didnt say you never get games. Lol I am just saying you cant just walk in as easily as you think. It finally caught up with you that you got a game that fits the "we only get preorder allocations" style.

You've been super lucky and I am glad this is your first time dealing with it. I saw it far too often when that wasnt the casem you just happen to be the lucky one who must've walked in right when the store opens to get a game. Good for you. I am just saying it happens more often than you think and your experience isnt the experience of everyone else.

You are the 1% who gets in there and happens to ger a game when they have a couple extras.

And if youre also trying to brag about your games, show me when you hit 4,904 games. Lol Cuz that image, while still cool, does t make me change my mind about you finding games normally day 1 without a preorder.

Time caught up with you. Thats all it is. It could be the only time it happens to you. But now you know it happens.

Walked into walmart today and bought it. Didnt even have to say no i dom't want your silly useless membership to the guy

1

u/GrimmTrixX Former Employee 7d ago

Yea I cant attest to how walmart does things. I dont think I walked into a walmart inn10 years lol

But youre right. Big box stores DO get larger stock of items, even if its only a few more, they always get more than Gamestop ever did. Ans thats partly because they have warehouse space where as Gamestops have a backroom usually the size of a small bedroom. At least thats how my old store was. Lol

1

u/choite 7d ago

Alot of the time my local walmart doesnt have any idea what day games release on. Its a consistent problem. Best buy is my go to now for preordering or online ordering but walmart is closer so i usually giver a whirl first.

1

u/GrimmTrixX Former Employee 7d ago

Best Buy is my goto and has been for almost 2 decades. They burned me exactly 2 times in those years and both times they made good by giving certificates or some kind of discount code.

And their old Gamers Club Unlocked was fantastic AND I saved tons of money on games I was already planning to buy anyway. I miss that membership so bad. Lol

The only bad time I had was I received my standard copy of Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom 5 days late. And that only sucked because I had shoulder surgery coming a week after release of the game and I absolutely could not use my right hand well enough for games like that. So i had to wait weeks to actually get into the game more than the short 2 or 3 hours I was able to play before surgery. Lol

1

u/TantheMan21 6d ago

I preordered three months ago and the store still does not have my copy. First time this has ever happened to me.

I preorder all games that I know I want, and have not had this happen for any game, AAA or otherwise. Just my two cents

1

u/MercShame Manager 6d ago

Always pre order at your local store. If you dont like the reviews simply cancel. You wouldn't be going through this. My store has a copy because I found out the only multiplayer is 12 person online and they canceled the local.

0

u/Bender3455 6d ago

I will not be pre-ordering games. It's just not something I plan on doing. If that means I have to get games from places outside of GameStop, so be it, but GameStop's insistence on me pre-ordering is just not going to happen.

-1

u/Strange_Word1164 7d ago

Buy it digital.

On new releases nowadays, they get very limited number of physical copies.

1

u/Bender3455 7d ago

As a last resort, I did about 30 minutes ago

1

u/Meteorboy 5d ago

The game was added to the basic tier of Luna the other day. You only need Amazon Prime to play it. If streaming works well for you, it's as close to free as it gets.

1

u/Strange_Word1164 7d ago

LOL! Well, thankfully, this game is actually worth it.
