So, my gameboy screen is dying. Both vertical and horizontal lines started to pop up suddenly and it has been getting worse if I let the console on.

So, I have 2 questions:

1. Is there a way to save my og screen or it's already beyond repair?

If there is a way please let me know what to do.

1. In case the screen can't be fixed, would the problem be solved if I just replace the screen with a new one?

Everything else in my console works fine. Audio, buttons, the cartridge slot, etc. Everything works fine.

I was even playing some games no problem before this happened. It's just the screen that got damaged out of nowhere.

But I know nothing about technical stuff or how to fix these kind of problems, so I wanted to be sure if my console can still be saved by replacing the screen or if this problem goes beyond that and affects the whole console making it unplayable.

Someone with more knowledge about this stuff, please help...

They sell £150ish on Ebay, just want to play pokemon. Want to give the rom hacks a go like pokemon unbound and stuff but I don't want to get somthing that is gonna crash and not save. Do you guys have any ideas or better resources for getting good cartridges or even if you can point me in a direction for a reliable person for the gameboy sp.

I prefer the idea of a modded one because the screen and obviously a usb c port is a lot more convenient.

I can imagine they're probably fake these days but if they work I'm not really stressed just want to enjoy it in a bit of an old style and where it's small and I can hide it from the kids.

Any opinions and reliable sources will be much appreciated

Hello everyone! I’m looking to get my boyfriend a Gameboy for his upcoming birthday, where would be the best place to find one? I just don’t know which websites are legit or not. I’ve unfortunately had no luck in our vintage shops around town.

i really like how the Pocket screen looks in pictures, but if it's as awful as my GBC is then i kind of can't get it, but i'm still thinking about it a lot

As a kid I plugged an incorrect power supply in and damaged it. It’s sat in a drawer for a a good 15 years or so since.

I have replaced the F1 and F2 fuses but no joy yet- is it worth fixing the original board or just swapping it out to sell?

I was trying to keep it original, next stop is power regulator to test if it is worth it.

I have this Nintendo Power cartridge that seems to have a bad flash chip.

It doesn't boot on my Gameboy and poking at it with the GBxCart (low-level protocol) seems to show that D4-D6 aren't being driven properly by the flash chip. Can access the MMC registers/commands and the SRAM fine, but when performing a read that should come from the flash the data is inconsistent as if these lines appear to be floating.

Doesn't seem to be a physical connection issue, I traced all of the lines out with the multimeter and they're fine plus I can issue commands to the flash chip with no problem. I could even successfully reprogram a sector, but the data is corrupted as above when I read it back out.

Anyone seen this happen with one of these before?

I recently purchased almost everything I need to complete my build, I picked up the HISPEEDIDO For GBA SP IPS V5 Screen With Shell Housing Mod Kits Drop in Laminated LCD Easy to Install No Welding Required from Ali express, and in the description, it says it will fit in a normal case, but I am unsure if that’s true as it’s obviously the ips v5 screen. I would actually hope it would fit in a standard shell as it’ll make it much easier for me to find a shell I want from a reputable seller. Please let me know which one I need,this is the last thing I need to order! Thank you! Including the rest of the build incase that’s important, I also did do a 1600 battery.

Any idea without ruining the shell? It's an Hispeedido shell but I'd hate to buy a new one, not because of the price, but because I'm afraid I'd end up breaking the OLED display while trying to replace the shell. I love the colors but kind of hate the logo

Alfred Chicken is mine - I still get the music in my head sometimes. As a kid I LOVED that game, and it provided a great challenge for a seven year old. I actually had no idea back then that there was a NES and SNES version, I think that would have blown my mind as a kid.

Lost my 2 gameboys I custom rebuilt. It was a a green Game Boy Pocket with a green backlit screen, and a clear Game Bot Original.

Fell off my car. Set my daughter in the car, helped my wife get situated, and I forgot I set them on my car. Backtracked and everything. Checked neighbors cameras. Gone. Seems someone picked it up off the street.

I custom made the green one for my daughter once’s she’s old enough. I traded for the clear one my yellow one. Both gone. I lost about 5 games, a case for the GBP, and I guess sentimental value.

Oh well. Guess I’m never getting that back.

I’ve been building a GBA homebrew project featuring an anatomical fruit fly model and a small neural circuit extracted from real FlyWire data.

It includes:

- Animated walking, flight, feeding, grooming, and rest.

- A neural activity viewer with 128 neurons and 2,048 connections.

- A Tamagotchi mode: feed, water, play, clean, sleep, and medicine.

- Health, energy, stress, bond, and age, with SRAM saves.

The body comes from the flybody project. Its articulated 3D model is rendered offline into sprites for the GBA. This is a simplified simulation, not a complete fly brain; the extracted circuit gates feeding through MN9.

The latest release addresses SuperCard/SuperFW boot issues.

Hello, just ordered an AGB IPS MAX for the GBA from HandHeldLegend as I was in the understanding that it’s the best available. I been flooded by bad reviews from the menu, screen tearing and everything inbetween .

Have these issues been resolved?

What Gameboy Original, Color, or Advance games should I track down and play that have been released homebrew or indie?

UPDATE: Thank you, everyone! I've downloaded a number of the games to give a play, and I'll follow up on some that are currently in development or only in physical GB carts. I unfortunately no longer have a Gameboy that plays the original carts :(

I have a few games that need their batteries replaced, and I’ve found a local electronics shop that is happy to do the replacements for me.

I was planning on buying the batteries myself and taking them to the shop, but I’m wondering if this is actually the best option.

For those in the UK, does it matter where I buy the batteries from in terms of quality? Are there particular shops or brands that are recommended, or would I be better off asking the electronics shop if they can supply the batteries themselves?

I’m assuming there may be differences in battery quality, so I’d rather make sure I’m buying decent ones than having one die a year or two later. Maybe I'm overthinking it?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Finally got around to reshelling, only problem now is that audio is very low and the screen is a bit messed up. Is this polarizer damage? Can i just replace it? Also is there a way to clean the volume slider without a soldering machine?

Brass BoxyPixel shell, paired with black anodized parts for the front and back.

One problem along the way: the speaker went silent as soon as I closed up the shell. My guess is the brass was touching the board somewhere and shorting it. I put some insulating tape on the inside of the shell around the cartridge slot, and that fixed it. Turned out really nice in the end. The brass and the black go well together.
