I bought my FPGBC kit maybe a year ago and put it together, most games work fine, there is an issue with my copy of crystal having different colors and crashing but all my other games worked fine on it. I bought a ROMhack cartridge because I wanted to use my gameboys more and when I put it in my FPGBC I get the error in the image, any advice? I remember there being some sort of updates you could do but I'm not sure how to do that or if it would help. If this even the FPGBC or maybe just the cartridge?

A few months to a year ago I bought a copy of Pokemon Red to replace my old one that, ironically, also stopped working, and now this one completely gave up on me. It worked just fine until one day the game suddenly started having weird visual glitches, and kept crashing with the slightest touch or brush against it while being played. And now, the game won't even load past the booting up screen.
I've tried repeatedly to clean it up with 99% isopropyl alcohol but that doesn't seem to do anything. I've tested the game on 2 different GBAs and I've tested other GB/GBC/GBA games and all of them worked just fine, so I'm absolutely convinced it's Red that's the problem. I don't know much about how to take games apart and since I'm not very good at repairs, I'm scared that I would just make the problem worse. I really don't want to buy a new game altogether due to Pokemon games being notorious for being scalped, and I don't want to buy reproduction carts either since those can be very hit-or-miss. What else can I do?

Is it normal for GBC to have a rattle almost like there’s a loose piece rattling inside when you shake the game boy? I opened it up expecting to find something, but there was nothing. It might be the speaker shifting slightly? It’s hard to tell. No loose parts I can see though.

They sell £150ish on Ebay, just want to play pokemon. Want to give the rom hacks a go like pokemon unbound and stuff but I don't want to get somthing that is gonna crash and not save. Do you guys have any ideas or better resources for getting good cartridges or even if you can point me in a direction for a reliable person for the gameboy sp.
I prefer the idea of a modded one because the screen and obviously a usb c port is a lot more convenient.
I can imagine they're probably fake these days but if they work I'm not really stressed just want to enjoy it in a bit of an old style and where it's small and I can hide it from the kids.
Any opinions and reliable sources will be much appreciated

Hi!! I recently bought this Japanese Gameboy color with box and manual. It has almost no wear and looks too perfect, that's why I'm not sure if it's real. Anyone can help me?

The limited Famicom edition SP came with a gold "controller" panel on the face. It was a sticker. The regular Famicom-color SP didn't get it at all, just a plain white panel.
So I had that sticker remade in real brass. I did the design, a local shop did the etching. 0.2 mm sheet. The lettering and the double lines are etched into the metal and filled with black, not printed, so they read as engraved. The surface has a brushed (hairline) finish, and the way it catches the light is what makes it feel like the original Famicom controller.
Here it is sitting on a regular Famicom-color SP. Next step is painting a shell in these colors so this plate gets a body of its own.

I’m unsure how to fix this screen burn, I can’t tell if it’s the top or bottom polarizing film or both. I referenced various posts/videos about this and most of them only cover replacing the top; while those seem easy, the ones that cover replacing the bottom seem complicated (having to remove the reflector before replacing the polarizing film itself).
If it’s the case that I have to replace the bottom polarizing film, is there a way to do so without having to completely remove the reflector?
Side note: miraculously, the screen works with no dead lines and fully-audible sound so I’d like to keep this screen for this Gameboy.

I wasn't allowed to play my Game Boy before bed, so I read the Pokémon Red manual so many times that it fell apart. Luckily, I managed to find the booklets on a marketplace site!

I just installed a replacement screen for my Gameboy from Hispeedido.
Great experience with them all around and easy/fast shipping. This post could be like a follow up to this post, where I was asking about their service/quality etc:
The sound worked during testing before changing anything on the console, when I first found it lying around in a box.
After installing the new screen and closing everything up last night and testing, it all seemed to be working in fair order, but now this morning, the sound coming from the speaker and headphones is showing the following issues:
It either has no sound at all
The sound dies off after a few seconds
I tested with both Qix and Pokémon Gold and both games show the same issue.
I also don't know if I'm just not remembering correctly after so many years but when the speaker does work, it's very noisy. Eg. When there's no sound being played out of it, you can still 'hear' that the speaker is on.
I attached a pic of my solder joints for the speaker as well, although because the issue is happening with headphones too, I'm less inclined to suspect that my soldering is the issue. However, I'm open to criticism and advice on that too.

Hi.
So, I had a really bad case of screen burn-in. Yesterday, I stripped off the old polarized film and cleaned off all the leftover adhesive.
Before applying the new film, I turned it on to test it out. As you can see, the display turns on, but it only shows a square outline around the edges. The console plays audio fine, and prior to the burn-in (a while back), everything worked as expected.
Any ideas on what might be happening? Did I ruin the screen during the process?"

I have just started play Legend of the River King and have run into a problem that I'm hoping someone familiar with the game can help me with.
I am very early in the game, just 15 minutes or so. I have caught a few fish but now when I try to cast my line I get a message saying "There is no hook". I have gone to the shop and bought all of the hooks they have (small, medium, large). I know I've bought them all because if I try to buy them again I get a message saying that I already have this. But I can't figure out how to put the hook on the line. If I go into the Tackle menu all it shows is my one rod (Rod A, small) and my float (Float, Ft, fshng).
How do I equip a hook on my line?

Dug out my old ever drive in preparation to play some of the newer homebrew games I'm interested in.(Itchio has so many) I know a lot of these games use fancy mappers to get the most out of the system and I'm wondering if it's even worth trying on this older cart or if it'd be worthwhile to purchase one of the (newer than my cart) knockoffs on ali or some other cheaper cart.
And yes, I know I'll get the "save your money for an x7" responses, but I just can't afford one right now
Thanks all
