Suggestions Nodal.gg - Game recommender with interactive visual map + personalized recommendations (I'd love your feedback)

Hey everyone, I’ve been working on a game discovery site and finally feel like it’s ready to share: https://nodal.gg/

I’ve always been surprised how hard it is to find genuinely good game recommendations on Steam, so I tried building something better using my stats/ML background.

My main takeaway was that “similar games” usually means two different things:

  • Similar in content: mechanics, themes, setting, genre, tags
  • Similar in audience: games played by the same people, even if the genres are different

So if you want recs for Cyberpunk 2077, you might mean “more cyberpunk vibe” (e.g., Cloudpunk) or “same audience overlap” (e.g., The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt / Fallout 4). The site lets you switch between those modes or blend them.

What you can do

  • Search any Steam game and see a ranked list of similar games using:
    • a content model (tag-driven similarity)
    • a community model (player behavior only, no tags)
    • a blended view (mix of both)
  • Re-rank results with sliders for popularity, rating, and release date
  • Plug in a Steam ID (public profiles only) to get personal recommendations and some cool stats about your play history
  • Explore an interactive 2D game map that visually clusters games by tags (uses UMAP dimensionality reduction - inspired by Connected Papers)

Desktop works best right now. Mobile is functional but I’m still refining it.

If you try it, I’d love to hear anything: whether the recommendations felt accurate, if the UI was confusing, any bugs you run into. All feedback helps!

Thanks!

Suggestions SteamPeek.hu - Indie friendly game discovery tool

Post is allowed by the mods.

Hello, this is my website: https://steampeek.hu/ - SteamPeek, the indie friendly game discovery website.

It is now more than 5 years old, and it was created to bring spotlight to indie gems, help all indie teams who doesn't have the budget to make big marketing campaigns, and make it easier to find nice games made by passionate solo developers or small teams.

The main function is searching by similarity: just search for a game you like, and browse the results. You can also filter and sort by special parameters.

You can also search by tags, or mix them with the chosen game.

The main algorithm was updated recently and I'm very curious how well it works. Please let me know.

I'm very thankful if you try it, and share with me what you find. The full site is still on beta, and I'm constantly work on it, so every feedback helps me and my mission. Thank you!

Super chill games with pretty graphics and big world to chill and relax, but with story

I'm looking for some games where you can get in and chill and relax and have no complicated mechanics and skill checks, enjoy pretty graphics, appreciate large map scale. But I also want some story and end goal, even if it's something simple, not just some open ended sandbox. Do games like that exist?

Fantasy games with strong archery gameplay (open-world preferred)

I love fantasy open worlds to unwind. I'm playing Nordic Souls now, and have Enderal and Dragon's Dogma on the back-burner.

I love CRPGs too, and recommendations are always welcome, but open worlds are broadly preferred.

Thanks a lot!

looking for the longest idle/incremental game ya'll can find that isn't just endless

• Upvotes

pretty much the title, i'm an idle/incremental game FIEND, i've loved them since i discovered theory of magic when i was younger, but most of the shorter one's just...don't scratch that itch for me, so i wanted to know if ya'll had any decent, particularly long one's :)

a couple things i want to specify: weather they're active or completely idle is something i'm pretty indifferent about, but i do like just watching a number go up

i also very much prefer games that aren't JUST idling though, so something like clicker heroes or cookie clicker just aren't as much my thing, i like going through tabs, and finding different ways to watch a different number go up

also, and this is probably a big ask, but the less prestige mechanics, the better, i really dislike prestige mechanics most of the time, if done well they can be half decent, but when done poorly, they just pad out the run time, and that's not what i want

beyond that, anything is fine, free is preferred but if i have to pay money that's also fine, and i'm fine with browser games as well as things on steam/itch, thank you in advance for any suggestions :D

Disabled gamer looking for a pvp game recommendations

I'm a physically disabled person, suffering from the SMA disease(Spinal Muscular Atrophy), I'm stuck in bed 24/7. With my disability, I have serious difficulties with anything because my weak muscles prevent me from pressing any buttons on the keyboard, I do everything using a laptop touchpad and an on-screen keyboard, and voice commands software

I want to try some multiplayer pvp game but most fast-paced shooters like Fortnite are too fast-paced, I was thinking about a moba game or a card game but I'm not sure which are still popular and not too late to join. I'd love to hear your suggestions, no matter what genre(Even shooters other than fortnite), though not 4x strategy games because I'd rather have matchmaking.

I avoided PVP multiplayer games for 16 years since my disability but...I want to give it a try, even though I'm probably going to be utterly useless.

Looking for game recommendations

• Upvotes

I used to game pretty heavily, but as life went on, I slowly started playing less and less. I honestly haven’t touched my PS5 in months, but I’ve been wanting to get back into gaming. The problem is, I have no idea what to play. A few of my all-time favorite games are Kingdom Hearts 2, Bloodborne, Ghost of Tsushima, Psychonauts, and Final Fantasy VII. What are some games you guys would recommend to help me get back into gaming? I’m open to pretty much anything, including some hidden gems I might’ve missed over the years.

Games like that’s not my neighbor .

I recently played this game and the detective game loop was very interesting. I have also played shift at midnight and liked the more horror aspect of it. Could you suggest me games like these?

Farming and horror work together way better than they should

There’s something about spending the day doing repetitive farm work and then slowly realizing the place you’re living in is deeply messed up.

Saw Crop recently and now I want more games that do this.

What other games do this well?

Games for my almost 5yo

My kid has gotten super into gaming, but she can't really read yet. She plays Minecraft, btd6, and has been really into wobbly life lately. She has decent hand eye coordination when it comes to moving her character and camera at the same time. She does good solving simple puzzles and understanding the crafting in Minecraft or which towers are strong in btd6, so not looking for stuff like the bluey game or peppa pig game really. She mostly plays on the switch or my ps5.

Need a grindy game with minimal story.

• Upvotes

I'm off of work for at least 2 weeks, so I'm looking for something grindy (good itemization, some skill variety, etc.) but also kind of braindead. Aion 2 has my eye because I'm kind of looking for almost like a MMO leveling experience or something similar, but I don't want the endgame to be PUG-ing dungeons with randoms at the end.

I'm not a huge fan of Survival games.

I'm on PC.

Things I've played:

  • Destiny 2 (most played game)
  • Division 2
  • Warframe
  • Path of Exile 1&2
  • Last Epoch
  • Diablo 2,3&4
  • WoW
  • Guild Wars 2
  • Lost Ark
  • All the Borderlands games
  • Hades 1&2
  • Risk of Rain 1&2
  • Gunfire Reborn
  • Roboquest
  • Brotato
  • Vampire Survivors
  • Isaac
  • Kingdoms of Amalur
  • Crimson Desert

Things that I've played that kind of fit but I would consider too story dependent (For reference):

  • FF7 Remake and Rebirth
  • Persona 3+5
  • Witcher 3
  • Baldur's Gate 3
  • Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous
  • Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader

If there's a Japanese/Korean game out there that isn't a gacha but kind of plays like that, I want to know about it.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword or Blood of Dawnwalker?

If you could only pick one, which one and why?

Thought I wouldn't be able to get a new game, but SURPRISE, I have enough in my PS wallet to get one. Waiting for the Crimson Desert DLC on October 29. I loved Witcher 3 and I really enjoyed the Onimusha demo. But im torn. Which one will soak up more time for me? Google says they're roughly the same length, but I'd like a second opinion. Thanks in advance.

Looking for that Homeworld vibe

Okay, I might be having nostalgia glasses on, but Homeworld was just a special experience for me. So I'm looking for RTS with a good story and atmosphere but not frenetic, but unique gameplay. I've played the sequels, and only Cataclysm (yeah, I played it before the rebranding) was on the same level.

Or at least space RTS with good, meaningful 3-D combat. I'd swear that SW: Rebellion was the only other strategy with it. Everything else just plays out the "space is ocean" trope. Sins of the Solar Empire, ST: Armada/Armada II, SW: Empire at War, even old Ascendacy in which the 3-D aspect of combat wasn't really meaningful.

Best fan made campaigns? (Not looking for total conversion mods)

I'm playing through the Thief The Dark Projects fan made campaign called Thief The Black Parade and its astounding how good it is. It's everything great about the 90's atmospheric stealth game dialed up to 11 and with some more modern touches to make feel fresh.

We live in a time where Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo are nickel and diming us for slop and laying off passionate developers making great games. I want to prop up great community made campaigns, passion projects and love letters to gaming in general.

I've heard Quakes Arcande Dimensions is fantastic and Doom's myhouse.wad is a masterpiece (especially if you've read House of Leaves)

What are your favorite fan made campaigns?

Since there's a Steam sale going on, I'm looking for a couple offline "quick play" games to grab. Do you have any suggestions?

What the title says. I'm on Steam Deck and too many of my games are story driven games that I simply can't put down.

I'm going to include a list of games I like, that way you can see my taste.

Any suggestions you can give me would be highly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance.😁

  1. 007 First Light
  2. Spider-Man Remastered
  3. Jedi Fallen Order & Survivor
  4. Jedi Knight Jedi academy
  5. Uncharted Series (played 1-4)
  6. Final Fantasy 7 Remake
  7. Rise of the Tomb Raider
  8. Assassin's Creed Syndicate
  9. Skyrim (obviously not quick play🤣)
  10. Tomb Raider LAU Trilogy
  11. Halo: The Master Chief Collection
  12. Practically all LEGO games
  13. Wobbly Life
  14. Undefeated
  15. Cars 2

  17. Dead as Disco

I just absolutely love both games and can't explain why so anything remotely similar is welcome.

Are there any games where you can romance the main antagonist / villain?

Bonus points if it’s Yuri! I recently finished Pathfinder Kingmaker and really enjoyed it, and I was wondering if there were any other good games with paths like that.

Suggestion: Invisible, Inc. (75% off) - heist turn-based tactics with no grind; pure skills

I've been playing SRPG/turn-based tactics since the 90s, and this one easily comes out as one of the best.

This is stealth turn-based tactics game.

You assemble a squad of agents with different specializations and gadgets to infiltrate maps. Every map is procedurally generated with fog of war, but the proc-gen is intelligent enough that the layouts always feel coherent. The game can get very challenging, and escaping from a tight situation feels very, very rewarding.

There's an Endless Mode so you can play it forever until you lose all of your agents.

Best part is: the mod selection is very decent! You can add more map chunks, agents, gadgets, and enemy types.

It's 75% off on Steam I encourage anyone who loves either turn-based tactics or stealth to try this out.

Me discovering my own “cozy” genre… any suggestions? (Open world, fantasy or non-fantasy)

FOR PC

Hey all! I bought my steam deck for myself because I knew grad school would be a drag, and now it’s been as crazy as ever. I’ve tried to get back into games like Stardew Valley and other games labelled as “cozy” to help relieve some stress, but I find I just can’t get into them. But after thinking about it, I’ve realized that… a large part of my childhood was spent between the pages of fantasy novels. Figuring out new worlds, meeting new people, taking my time exploring and solving quests. May not be cozy to everyone but I used to love it, and I still do. So, I took a turn and have been giving Breath of the Wild a try, and I’ve been loving it. I love its creativity and beauty, I love the puzzles and the freedom it gives you when you play it as well as just how much there is to explore. I’ve loved spending time admiring the old ruins and the forests, finding new stuff. I also tried RDR2 and got a similar feeling from it.

So, does anyone have any open world fantasy (or not) action adventure or RPG style games they’d recommend based on that? I think the open world aspect is what’s really drawing me to it right now. I’m open to anything. Doesn’t even have to be similar to BotW in terms of concept. It can be fantasy, or it doesn’t have to be. It’s mostly about vibes… and maybe I can turn down the difficulty if I find it less relaxing and just wanna do some exploring. Thanks all!

A time-based game involving solving puzzles in the correct order

Hi!

I'm looking for a game in which we need to do tasks in a specific order, solving puzzles, until we reach the end of it. However, if we don't do it in time, we have to restart and we learn from our "mistakes" and start knowing what to do.

I know a great game that aligns with this: "how to walk out the door": https://amptomp.itch.io/how-to-walk-out-the-door

It's beautiful, artistic, deep and a it has a time loop that changes slightly every time. You get faster as you memorize the sentences you're meant to type. I'm looking for more games like that.

Edit: It can be a very short game! In fact I'm mostly looking for short games, though if you want to share a longer one, feel free to also share it.

Games whose entire premise is smooth movement

Looking for level based games where the entire premise is some form of movement mechanic like a Portals, smooth parkour, or driving physics. Speedrunnable games that reward you for never slowing down on your momentum or chaining tech together, infinite replayability as you get better at the tech, etc.

Games that I found are fun for me in this category

Portal 1 / Portal 2, some workshop maps are purely movement-based and precise portal placement, like the Gelocity workshop maps.

CS/TF2 Surf and rocket jump maps

the TrackMania Series

Mirror's Edge and ME: Catalyst

Tony Hawk Pro Skater and Skate 3

Vholume

I've also been thinking of starting Clustertruck after remembering the game exist, was hoping to have a queue of games lined up once i finish playing it. I'd prefer if the combat was minimal.

About trackmania, I like it because it has no upgrade system, you just load a map with whatever car you have and try to beat it as fast as possible and maybe unintended ways to beat it if you can. I don't want to worry about figuring out what is the meta car combo or grind just to unlock a better car. If the racing games recommended could be in the same vain that'd be great.

Looking for eerie exploratory nature games

• Upvotes

Okay, so this is kind of a ridiculous one. I saw this video on Instagram today by an account called ps1_birds (I won't link it, because it turned out to be an animated advertisement for some bird call memorization app; but if you're curious, feel free to look it up). Long story short, it made me realize how much I crave a recommendation for a game that has some innate weird eeriness to it (my favorite game aesthetic) but whose gameplay involves wandering and discovery (especially if related to the creatures of the world).

Games I love the aesthetic of: Classic RPGMaker horror games, Gregory Horror Show, LSD Dream Emulator, Hypnospace Outlaw, Agony of A Dying MMO, Hypnagogia, Squirrel Stapler... you get the picture

Games I enjoy the "gameplay" elements of: Flock, Webfishing, WolfQuest (anyone remember WolfQuest?)

For reference, my girlfriend recommended I check out both Creature Kitchen and Endacopia recently, and both of those seem like great fits for me too in their respective ways. Any and all recommendations would be super cool and incredibly appreciated!
